What are the best heavy duty hand cleaners out there that won't tear up your hands? I've found that you can have clean, but sore and irritated hands or grease still embedded in your nail beds and hands, but at least not sore. . . Any good solvent free cleaners out there that actually work? Thanks!

at work whatever they use seems fine......at home , sunlight dish soap, a splash of water , work into a lther and rinse.........for dirt under the nails, a sinkful of dishes by hand does the trick..........

A buddy who sells industrial cleaning supplies has me sold on this stuff call Cherry Bomb. It is made by Zep. They also make stuff call TKO. Cherry Bomb is much better. It is well worth the few extra dollars per gallon over Go-Jo. If interested, PM me , and I'll tell you his site. Don't want to get my hand slapped with my first post. Great site here by the way!

Thanks - I've tried the ZEP products too - they work but they are filled with solvents that eventually irritate my hands. Someone just recommended STOKO products to me - like Kresto or Solopol - He swears by them. . . Have you heard of those?

Gal,

In the Army, what I use to get rid of blisters on my feet, cut em open, let the clorox seep in...........Burns like a ***** but the blister is gone never to return.............I figure id it works on my feet it would work on the hands!!!!!!!!

For everyday dirt I use Gojo/orange clean soap. If Im really greasy I use Magic hand cleaner. That soap will get any kind of grease off your hands with ease.

Your wife's moisturising hand wash and a tablespoon of coarse sugar. For really tough grime replace the hand wash with dish washing liquid, then follow up with the hand wash.

I am not responsible for any divorce which may result from this advice.

ETA: I've just noticed the OP probably doesn't have a wife. Unless she's from CA.

Look for a handcleaner with Lanolin in it. Works awesome and keeps the hands baby smooth(almost embarassingly but momma will love ya). I currently use Joe's in the red pail. Water or waterless and works good either way. I use it without the "scubbers" but both styles work good.

I use GoJo, then use a mild dish soap when I get home. Leaves my skin soft, and manageable!:bounce:

I also like Wypall waterless wipes for light stuff.

I have Greased Lightning wipes in a tub that makes cleaning tools a snap if anyone cares...

Curious about the Zep stuff. I love Zep...

I have started using Simple Green a lot. It's always around, and is very easy on the skin. But use nitrile gloves...It really helps keep em clean. I'm slowly getting into the habit of using them. Just gotta remember to put em on.

It also works well with gloves, to just grab a rag with simple green on there and keep your gloves clean too, everything wipes right off the gloves. It's also nice to be able to rip a glove off and grab your phone if need be, or write something or whatever.

In my younger days on a date night I would use a mix of clorox and clothes washing powder. The rest of the week I was never fussed.

Now my life is over (married and kids) I use go-jo and a floor scrubbing brush.

I prefer GOOP and we use GO JO at work , but the kicker has to be the fingernail brush to get out the tough stuff!
Just my $ .02

If anyone is interested I like to add:
This stuff is dry powder. It may seem expensive if you just look at the size of the can and considers volume and price. But since this is dry powder and only little doze is needed to wash your hands up to the elbows - it is very cheap compared to other cleaners over here.

I have tried many hand good hand cleaners over the years including few already mentioned here. And I agree many of them are very good and get the job done amazingly well. Crawling out of an old diesel engine and you are pretty much ready for *** after using one of them. Well ... "Worx" does the same job while being "the solution" for some people with sensitive skin. Two of my friends cannot praise this stuff enough and say this stuff saved their hands, *** life and marriage. I do not have very sensitive skin but I like it too.

Snap-On sold some that comes in a ********* can or tube that works great. No pumice and it smells like persimmons. Very easy on the hands and it works great. I used it alot when I was bending wrenches on diesal engines.

I also use Permatex Fast Orange. Works well for most things (dirt, oil, etc). Not so much for poly and oil based paints (IE anything that requires harsh chemicals to remove).

we had this stuff at work that was blue with grit and lotion in it. i loved the stuff, got my hands clean and made the soft where my wife liked them, but i guess that was to pricey for them so they went to this soyl stuff. i think that is how its spelled. works good for cleaning hands but don't make them soft. if i can remember the name of the other stuff i will let you guys know

I like the soy based hand cleaners... zep, stoko, and goop also has a soy based product..

seems like they clean better, smell better, and moisture better..

My Dad used to use 'Snap' - lots of grit. My hands are, ummm, sensitive so I use Canadian Tire waterless hand cleaner then dish soap. I do use nitrile gloves a lot since I am an office guy and my co-workers see my dirty hands and ask what project I was working on!
