Tarkelp Hand Soap. It cleans your hands and does not leave any greasy slimy film. The only place I have ever seen it is at Harbor Freight.

Got a tube of Kresto EZ free from a guy I bought Norseman drill bits from this year. I like it! (Disclaimer: I'm just a sucker for German tools, machines, and chemicals.) Weird thing about it, though, after I use it waterlessly, then start rinsing my hands in the sink, the little crumblies that form up on my skin (dirt and cleanser) wind up in my basement's concrete sink and really don't head towards the drain much. They tend to live on the flat bottom a while. No biggie.

Read this thread yesterday. I've been content with GoJo Natural Orange Pumice lately, and the new tube of Kresto. But there I was in Wal-Mart this afternoon, staggering about like a zombie in the auto section, when what did I see?

Permatex Ultra Cherry, $3.84/15 oz
Permatex Fast Orange, $2.36/15 oz

So I bought 'em! Youse guys are a bad inluence. :willy_nil

(Note to self: add "shelf above basement sink" to project list...)

I'm using the pumice-free 'Citrus Orange Hand Cleaner' from Napa. Washing my hands a million times a day and haven't had any problems. As for cleaning under the finger nails, use a washrag and a blob of the hand cleaner and you're good for the afternoon. At the end of the day wash your hair really well. Scrub well with your fingers/fingernails and it will thoroughly clean your fingernails.

I have been using this since the 80's. I have yet to introduce it to someone that didn't agree that its the best hand cleaner out there. the real nice part to this is it does not take much. about a teaspoon full to clean the dirtyest of hands arms etc. it can be used on burns as well(don't scrub it in) it also works as a flea soap for dogs. really :shocking:

I have nothing to do with this product other than using it for 30+ years. I did use to keep some on our parts delivery trucks and sold some that way.

Just thought I would share
the number is 1-800-741-1286 its got some Florida sunshine in it.

I used to use Go-Jo, but now use Nitrile gloves. I get these on sale at Harbor Freight. These work well for routine auto maintenance (changing oil, etc), and also when working with stain, paint, polyurethane, etc.

I keep a few boxes in my shop, one in the truck, one in the camper, and a few at work. If I had a job that would keep my hands greasy all day, I wouldn't bother wearing these as they'd get hot to wear after a while. Fortunately, my messy tasks don't last long.

Goop is the best by far $10 a gallon or ike $2-4 for 4.5 lbs and you can use it to wash the grease from your clothes to! I get it at walmart but they have it at the dollar store and harbor freight, I havnt tried the citrus one but if it says u can use it on clothes then I would recommend it... just spread some on rub it in and throw the clothes in the wash, for hands make sure there dry, rub in the goop and rinse off, the waterless hand cleaners r nice to but I dont know any good brands, i guess goop could be used w/o water....

OK - just coming back to my thread after trying out a lot of different hand cleaners. Just used the new Kresto Cherry product from STOKO - AWESOME! Gets your hands cleaner than any other I tried and leaves your hands feeling great. I love the smell too - I don't have that oily, greasy smell on my hands anymore - LOVE IT! I'm definitely hooked on this one.

I use Pow'r Kleen medicated hand cleaner. Hard to find but worth its weight in gold. Waterless with no abrasives. Leaves your hands silky smooth.

I've tried a lot of mechanic's hand soaps but haven't found a better one that good ol' Tarkelp hand soap they sell at Harbor Fright. One time they were out of it at my local HF so I ordered it right from the factory.

It cleans the grime every time and gentle on the hands to boot. It's one of those rare times when the least expensive product turns out to be the best, in my opinion.

This stuff is pretty good and easy on skin.

It is solvent free and does the same job as so many hand cleaners do. Used over here by many shops.

If anyone is interested I like to add:
This stuff is dry powder. It may seem expensive if you just look at the size of the can and considers volume and price. But since this is dry powder and only little doze is needed to wash your hands up to the elbows - it is very cheap compared to other cleaners over here.

I have tried many hand good hand cleaners over the years including few already mentioned here. And I agree many of them are very good and get the job done amazingly well. Crawling out of an old diesel engine and you are pretty much ready for *** after using one of them. Well ... "Worx" does the same job while being "the solution" for some people with sensitive skin. Two of my friends cannot praise this stuff enough and say this stuff saved their hands, *** life and marriage. I do not have very sensitive skin but I like it too.

Ummmm... well, I dunno about its effect on my *** life, but I can definitely agree Worx is by far the best hand cleaner I've ever tried.

It's incredibly effective, it doesn't clog drains, there's no pumice, and it doesn't tear up your hands when you use it several times a day.

Per pound, it's really expensive, but it's a very "fluffy" green powder -- a small container lasts a LONG time.

I get it from Amazon -- it used to be available at Walmart.

On a related note, a friend gave me a tub of Blue Monster Citrus Scrubs a while back, and they are without a doubt the finest "wet" towel I've ever used. They are the only ones that will actually get your hands clean without leaving a nasty residue or tearing up your skin -- you can eat a sandwich after using these, and you won't taste chemicals. And you can use a towel to clean up parts without damaging most finishes. The container is also far superior to anything else I've seen -- I've had the same tub for months and they're still nice and wet.

Yeah, they're a little expensive, but 99.9% of the time you only need one towel, even if your hands are completely disgusting. So they last a lot longer than most.

dawn dish soap, and a dash of salt for the grit. Rinse with water and good to go.

Have kept a used mustard squeeze container of each in the shop for years.

its available, cheap, and safe.

I've used all the typical "waterless hand cleaners" and they work fine, but for greasy, oily grimy hands, I've also tried plain olive oil rubbed in good on dry hands followed by Dawn liquid detergent and water. Not sure if it ends up being any less $$$. but it works well and has less chemicals, if that's the concern.

What do you mean "less chemicals"?

Olive Oil:
Oleic acid
Linoleic acid
Palmitic acid
Stearic acid
α-Linolenic acid

Dish Soap:
Ammonium C12-15 Pareth Sulfate
Lauramidopropylamine Oxide
Poloxamer 124
Sodium Chloride
SD Alcohol 3-A
Magnesium Sulfate
Pentasodium Pentatate
Sodium Bisulfite

And then you rinse this deadly stew of acids with dihydrogen monoxide? :scared: :willy_nil :eyecrazy:
