Hi Folks,

My new to me box in initial cleaning stages...pic didn't come out too clear

Could anyone familiar with older matco boxes be so kind as to ID this box for me? I can't seem to find a model tag anywhere. Also the side box matches perfectly but I can't seem to find any identification on it either (nor is there a matco logo).

All ball bearing drawers, a couple though I notice don't 'stick' when you close them, before i pull them out anyone have any tips there? just cleaning and greasing maybe?

Also no keys, looks like a standard lock to me..anything special there?

THANKS!

(man...pictures make me think i really need to think about painting and doing something with the floor soon....)

Bump for the friday night party crowd.

can't seem to tell by random googles, was mainly just curious about model number or where to locate it. Thanks!

bump for id/model of some kind

I figured out the locks and am part way to trouble shooting a few of the non sticky sliders...at first i thought it was the rubber blocks at the back of the sliders (which is what gives it that 'stick' when you close it), but the runner itself back there must have a little play.

Hi Dane & wafrederick,

Ahhh yep looks like a match, thanks! interesting i'll read those links, i couldn't find a pic on google anywhere. When were these made? 80's i'm guessing?

Yeah I didn't see the tag on the back nor where it would have been. Honestly i thought the price was **damn** good for the shape it's in, got the box, side cab and the shelf for $320...he had priced it he knew to sell.

Shape wise it has cleaned up nice, i could eat off the drawers inside, they are spotless, paint is excellent. Just a ding or two here and there and chipping on the top edges which i'll do something with, but nothing major.

Heck i paid 200 which i thought was a good deal for a kra3800 with rust i refinished

I really like this matco, lots of drawers in different sizes, lot of bang for the used buck.

I actually had a spare lock for the SO i was going to used if i found a matching cab, it fit perfectly.

Shannon;

I remember reading about your score on the KRA3800 when you got it too. The wood top idea was great! I like the SO locks better myself anyway, I'd say you got a great deal on both of those boxes! I do think we need some pics of the inside though. You gonna keep them both?

Hi Dane,

Here's some drawer shots, repainted the logo, rest was mostly scrub, wash, spray wax.

I have a measly socket collection lol. With my newfound interest in toolboxes i'm slowly replacing my piles of task force, crescent, <random stuff here> that used to be dumped in a drawer of my $99 stanley that I'd hunt and peck for 15 minutes for. No time for hunting and pecking since #2 kid came along, i've dumped all the old stuff in a box for now.

I'm really happy with this find, when i looked at it I had no idea it would clean up this good....it was really dirty, some dings here and there on the sides and back, chipped paint is about all. That SO, my first toolbox after the $99 stanley was the best money i spent for getting organized, it's like flipping an organized switch...I can see why the pros spend what they do.

Included shot of my snapon 8 months on. I was going to sell it, I keep all my power tools in boxes and was going to build a rolling cart for them. Ended up saving some time using it for those (pulled them out of the box)...and with what i have in it cost wise and that i put my own labor into it, i think it's a keeper.

Here's where it's going...i had a 6 foot space that's recessed a bit in the back wall of the garage, the SO is around 4 feet so i've been looking for a smaller older SO to go along side of my old one for MONTHS at a decent price. Gave up and was going to pickup something from HF when the bigger matco popped up...so it worked out well.

Also was looking for older metal wall cabinets, gave up on that and really needed some asap so did the sams club seville ones for now. Reused left over slatwall i had sitting around. Repurposed some under cabinet lights that i've sitting in a box for years, since the cabinets are metal, i epoxied magnets on the back of the lights.
