you love to delete threads dont you Merkva!

I have never been in a pawn shop. The idea of a place where less fortunate or crooks go to exchange goods for money/loans seems creepy to me.

But I'm a sucker for ebay!

Pawn shops are where a lot of people hit bottom, but sometimes hitting bottom is what it takes to turn around.

OTOH the ability to get some cash, NOW, and get your stuff back in a few weeks is a useful service.

OTOH I have yet to see a really good deal on anything at a pawn shop.

I had the thread up for an hour and no one seemed interested so I tried to delete it. Come to find out, the forum software won't let a guy delete a thread that he started; so next time I'll know.

I really dont get this! There are times when traffic is slow. Not everyone sits on an internet message board all day. There are good chances that someone will have a worthwhile reply to your post, but they just might not be online waiting for you.

I mean this with all due respect, but you have to be one of the strangest message board cats I have ever come across.

For good used tools cheap the only thing that can compete with Ebay is a good flea market.
Yard sales are nice but you have to go to a couple dozen of em before you find one with tools. A good flea market is 150-200 yard sales all in one spot.

I made a post about my Bend Pak HD9 Lift about a week ago, and it got but one response. Some times a post isn't interesting enough to elicit a response from anyone, so there are no comments. Sometimes they make it to the bottom of the heap, and it goes unnoticed by the majority of the people, because the forums were particularly busy that day. What is the harm in just letting the post remain? :headscrat

Sometimes I can't check the forum for 2 or 3 days so I may not see a post for a while. Often I'm the last one to post a reply so it seems like I'm a thread killer but sometimes I read posts, find them interesting but have nothing to add.

Huh. I have been to quite a few pawn shops over the years. Usually browsing the stuff for sale, but also seeking a loan on several occasions. I have always redeemed my collateral.

They don't seem creepy to me, but maybe that's because I am one of the "less fortunate".

Please excuse me if my post came off in any way as being "cocky". My intentions were completely opposite of that.

It just seems to me personally, that going to a pawn shop is like trying to score from someone else's situation, where they were at a loss. Perhaps I'm 100% wrong, as I am somewhat nieve to the workings of a pawn shop.

In my experience, most pawn shops will not let you score. They often want near-new or more-than-new prices for anything in the store. Maybe that means they lent too much on the items, but I somehow doubt that.

There is only one around here that I will deal with when I am browsing. Most prices are fair, with occasional scores to be had. This also means that inventory turns over quickly, so visiting often can be a plus.

Hocking something at a pawn shop has always been a means of last resort for me, but sometime you just need the cash NOW for things like baby supplies (formula, diapers, St. Joseph's Aspirin). I never felt bad about doing it, because it needed to be done.

My Snap-On torque wrenches spent some time in there, I'll tell you that.

When I visit these days, it seems that someone is always either hocking or buying jewelry. It seems odd to me that people will buy jewelry when they could be buying tools!

I saw something on Craigslist today, and the fellow said in the posting that he was selling his tools to pay for oil for heat. Not everyone is as fortunate as most of the people here that have the spare $$$ to buy what they want. I remember when I was in college, many times I didn't have enough money to pay the rent, and buy dog food. It was amazing how far a box of crackers and peanut butter went with both the dog and myself. He was just happy to have me as his master, and we shared........ well almost... I never ate his dog food..:lol_hitti
