Just purchased a nice toolbox at Costco.
It's a TORIN, 56" pretty nice for the price, ball-bearing equipped.
I figured, for the price, even if they didn't have them in red, it was worth it.
And it fits perfect in the space I have reserved for a toolbox.
Check out the pic.

Nice box for the $. I see Torin jacks, etc are also sold my local Pepboys store; never have seen the tools boxes, probably not enough to stock.

Finally a box from Costco Canada that can compete with the price in the US. I will check this out. Ben, what Ottawa location did you see it at? Notch, where is it $999? Any chance of a photo of the price tag?

I purchased that box from Costco about 4 months ago. So far, I'm very happy with the value. It's no Snap-On, but I've yet to see anything on the market for $1000 that can compare to it.

It's $999 in Alberta which is a smoking deal. If you look at the Northern Tools site you'll see they want $999 for just the lower.
Unfortunately it's too much box for me (didn't want the upper), so I opted for the Mechanics Edge 56" lower with the butcher block top for $569 I think it was.

I was looking for that one too. Does the casters seems to be good quality like you can move it a lot(by a lot I mean every other week end). Since I won't have lots of space, I'd like to use it as a workbench too.

Is that price for both top and bottom?? Northern Tools lists the bottom alone for $999 and the top for $650!!!! So basically you got the top for free ??? Or are yours different models ???

Yup, top and bottom for $999.99!

Not sure, haven't set it up yet. In fact it's still in the back of my truck... I need to recruit some neighbours to help unload it.

Sorry it took awhile for an update...

NOT available at the Gloucester location! They have the SS 41" one for 850. I asked about the other one, and the guy told me, "oh, the Merivale and Kanata locations have about 30 000 more square feet, and carry a much bigger selection."

Guess I will be going for a drive...

Finally unloaded my 56" Mechanics Edge box and assembled it (castors and side handles). It seems pretty decent for the money ($569), six castors in total (5"), 4 that swivel and have brakes and all swivels and wheels have grease *******. Drawers fully extend, ball bearing sliders, dual sliders on the larger drawers. 1.25" butcher block top... for a weekend hobby mechanic I figure this will last me a lifetime.

A friend of mine was shopping for a toolbox a month ago, and checked with Northern Tools. They gave him the phone number of the company that makes the Torin boxes, and when he called the factory, the phone menu stated "press ** for Torin boxes or ** for Snap-On boxes."

He ordered this one, and it was delivered for less than $2400.00.

Very impressive toolbox, I might add.

Howdy all, you guys are making me sick. About 18 years ago, I bought my snap-on 4pc box. I was going to aviation tech school and we recieved a 50% discout on snap-on. My boxes list price was $4800 and I paid $2400, thinking I got the deal of a lifetime. I'd be lucky to get a grand for it now. I never thought boxes like these would be so cheap. I did do good on the hand tools though. I could easily make a nice profit on them, not like I would sell them though.

There are many Costco warehouses in BC.

Give one a call: Here are some in the Vancouver area.
(604) 622-5050
(604) 435-6695
(604) 270-3647

Great -- thanks.

Is there a model number for these boxes or do they come individually or how are they purchased? I would be crossing the border with my phone calls and my truck, and I don't want either to be a waste of time! Arm me with as much info as possible -- what do I ask for when I call to see if they have it? Or possibly see if my local Costco can order it?

Just as an FYI to anyone subscribed. I found my local (US) Costco has started carrying these for $899.99. I took some more pics (including model number) and posted them in this thread: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15929

Snap-On = Torin box plus additional $3000:shocking:

I was in Northern Tool today, and they are much higher priced. For $899, it seems like an awful good deal at Costco.

I was at Costco in Tracy, CA yesterday looking at the 56" Torin-branded Box combo (upper and lower) It was $999. That is one hell of a deal (man - this thing is gigantic!) and every bit the equal of the Craftsman Professional boxes, in terms of the quality of the drawer slides and the metal thickness.

I wasn't too keen on the "suede" paint job (kinda like a very fine grain "wrinkle finish" - kinda like the old Kennedy boxes - because I can see it looking dirty/chalky after a while and hard to just simply wipe clean.

I almost pulled the trigger on this one, but I think I'm going to wait a little while...I'm sure more choices are coming from these manufacturers. But, I really like what I see so far! -Rob

Just saw the Torin box at Costco today - had to search to see what people were saying about it. Price was $999 for top and bottom as RWhite stated.

I have to say that I like the wrinkle finish paint a whole lot more than the stainless "see every fingerprint" ones they have been selling... My only complaint is that they had the damn thing locked and none of the "helpful" sales associates had any idea of where to find a key. I'd really like to be able to see inside it before putting down any money.

People are saying ball bearing slides, though? For those that have had them for awhile, do you still like it? Any impressions after living with it for awhile?

Atlas Toolbox @ Greg Smith Equipment on ebay

<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td>
Drawer Liners : Powder Coated : Heavy Duty : 11 Drawers

I think this is the same toolbox, offered in different colors, slightly more money. I'd like to buy one of these as well, but don't want the black wrinkle finish. Hoping Costco or someone else will bring them in, so I don't have to pay ridiculous shipping prices.

I was at Costco in Burlington Wa last week and the ********* box combo was
899.00,so 999.00 in Canada is not a bad deal. The big issue I see is transporting it,if you don't have some serious equipment, you'll need to have it delivered!I haven't seen one in Nanaimo, but I'm sure they can order one in.

I picked this one up at Costco in Kanata last summer:

I think I paid somewhere around $700-$800. Quality is good enough for a shadetree mechanic like me.

Just to update this thread...

The 56" is still available. $1099 in Ontario and East. There is also the 42", and it goes on sale in July for $100 off if you are looking for a deal. I was at the Ottawa East location the other day (where they STILL don't carry both the big boxes), and they had a 42" lower with the butcher top for $269. I think I will grab that to match the upper/lower combo:thumbup:

I just picked up the same box at costco. I noticed you said it would be great for a weekend Mechanic. Personally I'm going to use it professionally at work maintaining aircraft. I don't see it failing, and really don't see the point in droping five grand on some MAC or Snap-on equivalent. After all it's just holding tools and not going 100 down the freeway, nor do I plan on putting a 737 on the butcher block. I think it's just as good as any box from Canadian Tire, Home Depot or any place else for that matter if it's used for it's intended purpose.

I recently purchased the 56" torin from costco. It was mostly assembled. I put the handles on with the included allen wrench bolts. I noticed there are an additional 8 standard bolts but the directions don't talk anything about them. I called the 800 number and got some warehouse employee that did not know anything about them. Does anyone know what these bolts are for???

I think they are just extra. Everything I seem to get from China that requires assembly has extra hardware. I had extras for my handles from my 42" that I just set up today.
