Thought I would check in. My Costco Torin is all set up, and I love it. Smooth drawers, liners, sturdily built. My only complaint is that the keys are different for the top and bottom. No big deal - it will never be locked anyways! What a deal for 599.

$599.............? Was it on sale? I just checked their web site and it says $949!

I'll have to head in there tomorrow!

Thanks.

Bump.......

OK, I went into the Red Deer Costco and the BIG box is still $999 and the smaller one is $699. I asked if they ever go on sale and was told "never" unless it is the last one and is a floor model or damaged.

Still a great buy at $999, but I don't really need it and would rather spend the coin on my car!

599 is not a misprint. The 42" was on sale for 100 off two weeks ago. It was in the coupon booklet, and was known about for a few months in advance. The big one hasn't gone on sale.

Yes, it shows as 950 on the website for the 42". Worthwhile to pick up in store. It's still a good deal for 699, as is the big one at 999 (or 1099 if you are in the east).

I am in the market for a wide tool box set. Actually the bottom is really what I want and in black. I also went to Costco to check out this Torrin set. I seen a huge one in someone's garage one day. I went there and I found out that there was a 42" as well as a 54" or 56". They had the 42" in stock selling for $799 and found out the last larger set sold for the same price about a week earlier (this was about 2 weeks before this xmas). This is because they are not stocking them anymore I was told. Anyways, looked at the 42" demo in the store and the quality in my opinion was not the greatest. The drawers were locked and I pulled on them and the drawer locking mechanism seemed bad, it seemed like if you gave a good tug the drawers would open. Also the metal seemed a little flimsy. I did like the durable finish though. Is the 54" (56") the same quality ?? I picked up a used Craftsman Pro standard size roller set this summer, was about 4 years old and the quality is very, very, good. Better than the same models they sell today. Well still searching for a wide set.

REVIVING OLD THREAD ALERT!!

So, I am very seriously looking for a bigger tool chest, just the bottom, and found this chest which is now discontinued at my local TSC.

Both the manager, and Corp head office said the $699 for just the bottom is as low as they will go as that's cost for them. They won't price match unless the local comparable model is out of stock (Canadian Tires 56" Maximum is 1/2 price @ $599, but plenty in stock)

I hadn't thought much about the depth of the drawers until I actually played with the 18" deep model (drawers are <17" actually)
The Torin 22" deep chest is noticably better, to me, and I really like the added depth (drawers are 19 1/2" actually)
The only drawback I can find is the bottom right "drawer" is a shelf, with hangers underneith... I can use it for a battery charger area, cordless tools, etc... just seems less "usable" than a proper drawer.

So for those who have it, or a comparable chest...

1. added depth, really worth it?
2. odd sized/shaped drawers, what do you use them for?
3. $699 still seems like great deal, I can't find anything comparable... thoughts?

thanks for the added feedback on such an old thread.
