The prefix 397 indicates it was made by Delco Products Corp. from
Dayton, OH, U.S.A.

I'm trying to join you guys, but the only grinder I've found is over an hour away. The search continues...

I have a 1/4hp 6" in the home garage, it has a easy life. Still I bet it would easily outperform the POS 8" delta at work. 15 years or so ago my dad found a 1hp block with stand new in the box never open. I don't think he gave more then $50 for it. I don't think he uses it, "its too pretty."

I just e-mailed him and I was probably five minutes too late. The search goes on.

This one worked out great. Just saw the GJ post and emailed him. He is 1 block from where my wife is at work and it's my birthday. Guess what she got me?

What size one are you looking for?

I have (Now) (3) 1/2HP and (2) 1/3HP ones. I'm making a stack for grinding, wire wheeling and buffing.
Might be willing to part with a 1/3HP one, especially if I find the 3/4HP or 1HP one I really want.

Where are you located?

Used to be my Grandad's. One of the few tools the rat-******* neighbor didn't walk off with after Grandad died. 1/2 HP, 397 prefix (I think -- it's pretty faded).

I went to lowes and got some plumbing washers which kind-of worked.
but I would really like to fine something like the originals ( I have all 4 of them but they are really soft).

I'm on the west side and I'd like to find one 1/2 HP or greater. I thought I was going to be able to get that 1/2 HP 8" in flint this weekend, but it sold before I could get to it. No hard feelings, happy birthday! When you find that 3/4 or 1 HP and want to make room, let me know.

Still on the hunt; but slower now that StateWide CL search has been gutted.

Here's a 1/2HP in west Flint with the quenching tray (If you want to drive that far). I've got enough 1/2HP ones so I won't grab it. Ad says 8" but he said 6". It's probably 7". He is asking $65 but said he'd go to $50. I told him a friend was looking for one and they were going for $30 or $35, so tell him you are that guy.

EDIT: Hey!...Wait a minute torgueman2002...I was posting this because I was feeling sorry for you since you didn't have a CM block grinder yet...Looks like you DO!...Still a little far for me to go, so have at it.

Unless she's lying to me, it's already sold (from an e-mail on Wednesday). I was supposed to get that one this Sunday.

I talked to him. She was in the background. He seemed a little befuddled. Maybe she is running things and decided not to sell to you. Maybe it is sold. Maybe the buyer never showed. I've run into weirder things. I would confirm that it is still there before making the trip.

I just picked up this unused beauty today. Got this one along with another one with a knife sharpening attachment and a Littlestown vise for $100. I would have probably given him $100 for the new grinder alone.

Anyone know what year it was manufactured? I thought (for a second) it was 1958, but I've seen the same serial # on slightly different lloking Craftsman grinders. I'm guessing 60's vintage.

There are other block grinders out there, come on and post them up guys.

Those are some great looking grinders Torqueman! I don't see them for sale around here very often. They probably get snatched quickly after posting. And I would post one if I had one. :)

Thanks,
Steve

Hey, thanks!

Funny thing - I already 'talked' to the guy over 2 weeks ago. I was all set to go take a look at it, but fell ill. I was wondering if it was still available. I was going to 'flip it', after putting on a 7" wire wheel and using the right hand wheel guard cover and water tray for my 1/2 HP Block Grinder. :D
