I was just planning to put cork in the bottom of the small drawer I built for the tools which go with my 3-in-1 sheet metal machine (mainly allen wrenches and small brake fingers I don't need at the time)...

Looks good, where did you get the cork material? Does it have adhesive on it? Did you use something to stick it to the drawer bottoms? Did you have any problems with getting it to lay flat, after being in a roll? Does it actually keep tools from sliding?

I've got cork in some of my drawers. It's been in there for a loooong time (nearly 30 years). Mine is cracked, brittle and is curling up in places. Cork is O.K. I guess, but I prefer the newer rubberized stuff. JMO.

Heaaaaay, Where'd you get that cork material? I'd like some for a KRA 59A I just picked up, it's missing some for a couple drawers.

The problem is that the rubberized stuff tends to loose their plastisizer over the years and makes a huge mess.

Got it at Staples, but you should find it at HD, Lowe's etc. I got the Staples version because it was a bit thicker. No adhesive, and tools don't roll around. As long as you aren't slamming the drawers hut, there should not be a problem.

I can remember my Father doing that and every few years it had turned to crumbs and dust, then he'd do it again. By the way, what is in the red metal box marked "Stanley Fatmax".

I have used cork floor tiles to line some of the drawers in my tool boxes, to good effect. I got my hands on some PVC roof membrane in the past and it is a very versatile material for lining drawers etc.

Thanks lilredex, I guess just you canadian are getting the neat stuff; as an after thought there used to be a cork/rubber gasketing material that may hold up better. It was available in rolls, although RTV gunk probably replaced it.

Yeah, Fel-Pro cork gasket material, that stuff is amazingly pliable, too bad it's horrendously expensive. Was goping to get some to try out, then I looked at the dimensions, back at the price, and I realized I'd need to invest hundreds to finish my small box LOL. USA made too:

That was PRECISELY the thread I looked at before running out to Canadian Tire last year. I got it primarily because of the box, hex sockets second LOL.

AND I got the $10 29 piece drill bit special as well, works well.

I did my restored 54 Craftsman 5 drawer roller with cork, mat. I got mine at Lowes. I have a couple of more vintage boxes I need to do and picked up a big roll of it at a yard sale a couple months back...

I like it.

ooookay, gotcha. So, does it prevent tools from rolling or what? If it's strickly because thats what was used back then, thats cool too. I'm just wondering if there's an advantage that I'm unaware of. Seems to me cork isnt too cheap.

I have cork liners in my Remline bottom box, they've been in there since 1981 and are still holding up. Thanks for the info on where to get more, I want to put some in another box I have and Sears doesn't sell it anymore (that's where I bought mine originally).
