Are they really three times better?

I think that one was fifty. If they are a really quality product, I may have to invest in one. Mostly becauses it pisses me off when I pick up a nearly full can of spray paint that doesn't spray!

I don't think the larger Sure Shot's are intended for paint, at least I've never seen them used that way. More for lubricants, rust preventives, etc.

Edit: I like Preval products for paint

I need to get one of these as well. It looks like the sure shot has a better spray nozzle. The less expensive ones look like aerosol cans where the nozzle usually fails on me. Where is the best place to get a sure shot ?

Some time ago HF used to sell those bottles and let me tell you they are/were fantastic wish I bought a case; not sure why they stopped selling them.

I'm of course asking for the "of course, what kind of a tool do you take me for?" response.

But you're clearing the nozzles after use, yes?

I have seen them used for gasoline to spray in a carburetor to start a car with fuel issues. I didn't like that idea at all, but then it beats pouring the gas into a styrofoam cup.

I need one of these. The last two cans of PBlaster have had zero pressure with about 30% of oil left, kinda pissed me off with the second can.

How well do they work with paint? I am constantly ending up with dead, half full cans of spray paint, either won't spray or nozzle broken off/clogged(yes, I turn 'em upside down and clear 'em). I'm figuring you fill them with paint, pump 'em up with the compressor, paint, put the paint back in the original container, refill with thinner, pump up again and spray it clean. Is that the gist?

I always figure the amount of propellant used to clear the nozzle is why I run out of it before the paint is gone. I wonder if you could use one of those to clear your nozzles with paint thinner? That would save the propellant.

As far as wasting propellant to clean a nozzle on a rattle can, I gave up on that a long time ago when I too found out that most cans usually don't have enough pressure left at the tail end of the product.

Now whenever I'm done with a quick touch up I simply pull the nozzle off, soak it in solvent/paint thinner for a few moments and then blow it out with air, works great. I also usually have a hand squirter in the shop containing solvent for rinsing off small parts, a quick blast through the nozzle with this also works well.

As far as refillable spray cans go, it's hard to beat one of these for 10 bucks when they go on sale.

So can I use this with my solvent/degreaser of choice? Its $9.99 with a coupon from HF.
I know its not an Iawata, but I guess I could use it paint most of the **** I build. Its always flat black anyway.

Or would I be better off with the 1 above?

I certainly can't see why not as long as you can get the adjustment down to were you want it.
When spraying a solvent or degreaser you want the product to go on heavy and wet, not atomized into a vapor. I find for those types of jobs it's awful hard to beat a dollar store hand sprayer with an adjustable nozzle. Most are able to spray a squirt gun like blast and also a fine mist, and only a buck.

get this,

SteelSprayers.jpg

Is the 32oz shure shot much better than the 16 oz versions? I got a few 16oz HF aluminum sprayers and been underwhelmed by their performance. Just yesterday was trying to use it with CRC Clorinated Brakecleen (Tetrachloroethene/PERC) and at full 90 psi on stream setting it it barely drizzles. It's like there is a restrictor inside or the pinhole is too tight...

Also what type of nozzle is on sure shot - atomizing or stream?

Thanks!

Sure shot is the way to go. They offer an extensive selection of different nozzles from fixed to adjustable as well and flexable extentsions. Also Made In The USA. At work we use them for brake clean. They are strong, have dropped it numerous times, usually have to replace the nozzle afterwords, but very happy with them.

Those sure-shot sure are pricey :)

I'll attempt to make one out of an old 32oz fire extinguisher (all-metal). Will need to replace pressure gauge with shredder valve for fill-up and add a smaller tip for fine spray.

Will report if it all goes well.

How big are the sure shots compared to a can of WD40?

I have a vaper spot sprayer and a sure shot and they're identical. It's about $30 on amazon too. They spray a mist just like the but if you take the tip apart and remove the brass piece it will spray a stream same goes for the sure shot.

Pardon my ignorance, but I have the same question. How good are the refillable ones compared to the standard rattle-can for paint? And I mean the ones you pump full of air, and use without a compressor?

As a corollary, how cheaply could one put together a 3000psi paintball tank with the requisite pressure regulators (as I've seen several here do on their tool carts to run air tools) to run one of the $9.99 HF ones mentioned above? I've looked around on here a bit and couldn't find a great answer.

A "standard" WD40 spray can? The sure shots are a good bit larger in diameter and a little taller, but not much. Then there is the handle on the side. They are like the size of a large mug or beer glass.

Great. Thanks for that, buddy. Just wanted to know how much of a pain it is to spray something in a tight spot under the hood.

Did not go as planned - fire extinguisher release valve was seized up and bent valve handle.

Looks like I'll be buying that Sure Shot (or Vaper) sprayer after all.

Also I now have about a pound of Aluminum Hydroxide powder from the broken fire extinguisher. Does Aluminum Hydroxide powder have any other uses or should I toss it?

Does one NEED to get the chrome plated/nickel plated one if using brake clean?

I found it on amazon but it's going to be close to $80 for that one, compared to the painted one that is like $50... any issues with those running brake clean through the painted version of these cans, ie: Green, red..etc..

Thanks,
-Nigel

Bought 2 of the Menards ones today. One for acetone/ATF mix, and the other to use up the 5 gallons of bulk brake cleaner I bought on an auction.
Will report back.

Yep, got them at Menards today. $8.99 each.
They come with spare o-rings, Schrader valve core, extra spray heads and straws.
Juiced one up with ATF/acetone mix, and worked well. Already survived a nasty spill off the workbench, with no I'll affects.

If it goes well, I'll have to get a few more. I think they'll work well to spray my home brew chain lube on the baler and swather.
