Greetings -

Great site and information. Been going through the threads as fast as I can read, some very talented people on here.

Well this will be my thread for the new Mustang Garage. 20 x 40 attached four car garage on our new home. We close this week and I have one small home project and then it is garage makeover time.

Flooring - I am going to follow EMC2 - http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=181620

Paint - will be diamond plate 16" up, then royal blue going into a blue and white checkered pattern merging to gloss white.

Lighting - may follow dubber's diamond plate idea or go with a track lighting.
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=182142

This is going to be a show garage, the work garage will be another thread starting next year.

Looks like you are incorporating ideas from some of the nicest garages on here. I would love to have a 4-car at some point.

I had read through yours as well, great information and I love the way you painted it. The quotes on the wall are a really nice touch.

Glad you like it. I ended up removing the quotes to repaint. Not sure I'll re-do them. Thanks for the compliment. G/L with your project. Like Dubber said, we take great interest in what other people are working on. Keep us updated.

Closed on the house/garage on Friday. T - 10 days to occupancy. After very, very few items to do for new home I can start on garage.
Following lesson learned here.
1st - building shed to keep yard stuff out of garage.
2nd - add additional electrical
3rd - finish/patch garage walls.

We got into the house today, PO still have some stuff to remove but I got some initial shots. Garage is a little over 20 x 40.

East side of garage, this will be the Mustang side.
SAM_0598_zps7483cc8b.jpg

Still east side, back wall. Far wall is insulated but no drywall. All of the joints are rough.
SAM_0597_zps8ef6dc59.jpg

West side for daily drivers.
SAM_0596_zps1d282e23.jpg

Funny, one garage door has windows, one doesn't. Also only one garage door opener. PO was a home guy, not a garage guy. Need more power out here.
SAM_0595_zps557b2a4c.jpg

Floor looks great, needs a little cleaning.
SAM_0593_zpscbffefe2.jpg

My problem area, like this all around the perimeter. Not really crazy about having a ledge there. Any ideas????

Great space - if you are worried about the ledge - pad it out with some pine or plywood or apply a stone face edge to it. Dress it up a bit, but you can't get rid of it.

I thought about track lighting also. I haven't seen any posts with it yet. (Of course I haven't read every post either.)

Per the Lowes web site.
"If you're looking to provide task or accent lighting to direct shine on a specific area or subject in your home, then consider installing track lights. (br) This flexibility allows you to achieve the mood or presentation you desire by simply pointing the light where you want it"

So since I need a LOT of light, I am thinking this may be a supplemental lighting source, but I will still need additional lights to provide the coverage I would need to work.

Congrats on the new house and nice big garage.

I'd say follows NUTTSGT advise and fill those cinder blocks full of cement. Then I'd recommend thin layer of insulation (may 1/2" rigid foam) that would be skinned with diamond plate steel. You could glue both of them on (maybe a few screws) and caulk bottom of diamond plate at floor to give you a good seal. My 2 cents.

Research several sites on GJ who have installed CFL lights in ceiling with normal porcelin fixtures. Use Search then Advanced Search for username Veno for excellent CFL lighting install.

Since sheetrock not installed everywhere, you can do all the rough electrical that you'll need - - ie outlets, compressor (240v), welder (240v), tall outlet near hanging garage heater (decide on NG vs electric), etc.

Good luck on house & garage move-in. Keep the pics coming!!

I have one small home project and then it is garage makeover time.

Why didn't someone beat me for saying that!! OMG we are on day three, took two days just to clean the home, new carpet in all bedroom and stairs (they had an old dog we found out), wood floor in the living room almost done, still need to clean and move in.

I want to get up into the attic, the PO said there was a tone of room up there, would like to see if I ever get a break.

Well I did get a chance to look into the attic. Previous owner told me there was a ton of room up there and I had envisioned making a loft for storage and maybe a spare room. No such luck, trusses are not designed for space, it would be a huge under taking to get any usable room out of it. :(

So finally getting started. First step is getting the shed up to get the clutter out. Nice thing about the garage is discovered already, even on a very rainy Friday you can build most of the shed inside. Have walls and trusses built, plywood is cut and ready, just need the rain to stop.

IMAG0460_zps25e35dd7.jpg

Mustang out of storage and in its new home. Lot of stuff just put up just to get it out of the way, once shed is up this area will be a lot less cluttered. Will get rid of shelving and all of the yard tools. Shed will have two lofts to store additional parts and stuff I can not put to use right now.

Looking good, love the gas pump (and of course the GT350 :) ). I am still considering those track light really just to light and " display" toys. Just finished hard coating, base, crown and actual spindles and handrail to the second story of the garage. So my wife tightened the belt on spending any more money.

Lookin good, I like your plans! I gotta see the front of the Red Crown pump. I just picked up an unrestored one several weeks ago (Red Crown/Standard Oil). I intend to restore is at some point but I like the looks of it the way it is for now.

A shed is no doubt a savings grace for a garage. That way you can really keep it a fun place to enjoy and not just a place to park a lawnmower :)

Can do, I also have the books and some of the decals yet. If you decide to restore it, let me know. At one time I had 14 pumps, now I am down to four. Two are still unrestored and I am begining to see the appeal of them that way.

Not sure where I saw this, but I like the idea. Looks like it was hand made?

That globe is very cool, haven't seen that one before. Here are a few that I'm leaning towards. It's hard to pick one, I like em all.

Decided I deserved some play time in my garage, so on a rainy day I had some fun. Needs to be painted grey and silver yet, but very happy with it. I am going to back light it with blue led. I want to put it on a 4x8 sheet of diamond plate to see if that looks better or just alone on the wall. I like rainy days.... It is 7' 6" long.

No worries Herb. There is a larger garage in the plans. The back side facing the house will again be the service station, everything has been saved. So as I sit in the attached garage, I can look out and see the station.

Well finally completed, I have seen cathedrals built faster then this took me, but it turned out well. 12 x 8 with an 4 x 8 loft in it and shelving. This will clean out the garage nicely.
