Hello everyone. Not a mechanic or body man by trade. I work for a general contractor. I do a lot of flat roof metal copping cap and metal roofs.

Any ways has any one ever used any of these snips? All three brands claim to cut up to 1.8 mm or 14 gauge cold rolled steel that is pretty heavy duty.

I am looking into these for mitered corners on copping cap and fancy detail work nibblers/electric shears cant do.

All help will be greatly appreciated. thank you for your time

I have all wiss snips.. They work good. I've never used anything better but I have used many worse.

I have never really had luck with wiss. I have always used midwest and klein.

If the klein journeyman series with the curved handle could cut heavy gauge like the special hardness blue handled midwest snips I would be in heaven lol

There's a company in Philly that sells and distributes tools for masonry and roofing called Stortz & Son.

http://www.stortz.com/store.asp?pid=31233&catid=19992

The snips they sell are a mixture of brands. The USA made one are from Klenk.

http://www.klenktools.com/Main/Products/AviationSnipsNew.asp

The other snips they carry are from Germany and Austria.

I'm not sure who manufactures these Pelican snips.

The other brands of snips they sell are from Freund and Stubai.

This is Freunds website. Some of the snips look like rebranded Bessey/Erdi snips. Others I'm not sure.

http://www.freund-tools.com/products/freund_snips_2.html

This is Stubai's website.

http://www.stubai.com/seiten_englisch/frame-main-speng-01-eng.htm

Stortz posted a video showing a comparison of some snips. The single pivot Stubai snips even look like they do a nice job.

This is a video from a different company showing the Klenk snips being used. The Klenks seem to be popular with some roofing supply companies.

I just ordered bessey D29SS-BE lefts and rights.

I was looking for the erdi stamped version from the bessey site as its a little more Americanized in the handle shape. could only find europoan vendors though.

If you live in the USA, how about the 'Midwest' snips brand? They can often be gotten at a good discount at sears and they are warrantied as well. Just a thought...

Well they came in and I got a friendly shock when I opened the box to realize I did not get what I ordered. Instead of the bessey snips shown in the picture I got the Erdi stamped ones I was looking for. Big smile to my face then.

First impression very nice quality, the blades come together tight almost to tight. In the hand they feel very well balanced almost identical to the klein curved handled snips. Really nice feel to them.

They do seem to weigh more than both the klein and midwest snips. Nothing major just a heavier feel to them. Though I do not have either brand with me nor a scale to prove that though. But in my hands memory these seem to weigh a bit more. Still extremely balanced though.

As for as cutting these are a dream to cut with. I took a piece of scrap 20G double hemmed galvalume and cut on a 45 DEG angle. My result It cut through it like a hot knife through butter it was amazing. When into the un-hemmed area of the piece I could use the full length of the jaws with no ripple affect what so ever. The double hinged jaws make cutting a breeze.

on to the heavier test the 18g double hemmed painted steel sheets. Again same test was applied do a cut at 45 DEG angle. This was not like a hot knife through butter but it did cut through with very little minimal effort on my end. Just like in the previous test I could use the full length of the jaws and not get the ripple affect from the cut metal.

I would highly really recommend these snips to any one who fabricates metal for a living. Just spend the extra few dollars on these your hands will love you for it. My midwest and kleins maybe no so much any more.

Is the Erdi/Bessey D29ASS-2 & D29ASSL-2 made in China?

I ask because the the tool is not marked with COO and a lot of Erdi/Bessey snips is now made in China.

Just my two cents guys at Chads ****** ToolBox wont even respond to my warranty request for these overhardened brittle POS overpriced pliers. Go with Wiss. Upper chip on last picture is darker because these pliers came with that chip and made it through quality control. What a ******* joke.

From a mention in an earlier thread, I just bought, and really like, the NWS English Pattern Tin Snips. They are strong and give a nice long straight cut. The handles open so wide, though, that you either have to use two hands, or rest one handle on the bench.

7yr old thread but....I bought a pair of Bessey D29ASS right offset snips awhile back to see if I wanted a complete set, but they were one of the very few tools that I've ever been disappointed in enough to return. They looked really nice and had a good feel to them, but were just ok cutting 20ga, and were unusable on 18ga that I bought them for (were advertised as good to 16ga). My Wiss and Midwest snips work just fine on 18
