Another good deal on a 250 ft. ld. torque wrench! Hmmm...last summer when I desperately needed a 250 ft. lb. torque wrench, the best deal I could find on a quality brand wrench was a CDI on Amazon for $150 shipped. No regrets, as it's a great wrench, but since then I'm seeing all of these great deals on 250 ft. lb. wrenches. That's always been my luck!

BTW, I picked up a brand new 250 ft. lb. Craftsman at my local Sears Outlet a few months ago during the big C-man Industrial wrench clearance for $19. Had to take it at that price. Figured it would be my loaner and keep my CDI locked up!

no matter, the CDI torque wrench is a good one so you should have no regrets buying that one, even if it cost a bit more.

The craftsman one... well, I don't think I would spend $19 on them, even though that's just $19. The current ones have a lot of complaints, and I have the entire set of the last generation of "click-type" craftsman torque wrenches and have the infamous plastic locking ring issue; it no longer locks so I have to be careful not to twist the handle while i'm pulling. 2 of my friends who also have the same torque wrench have the same exact problem. When I brought it to sears, they said sorry, only 90 days warranty on calibration. I told them, this is not a calibration problem, the locking ring doesn't work anymore... they refused to help me. I still buy craftsman stuff, but I will never buy their torque wrenches again.

I've owned the 150 ft. ld. Digitork since the late 80's and it still works great. I'm just a home DIY'er, but I've used it extensively over the years with zero issues. Sitting side by side, it looks identical to the new 250 ft. lb. Digitork except for the ratcheting head. Are you referring to the plastic end cap that you turn to adjust the lbs, or something internal in the wrench?

Edit: Photo of both side by side. Identical except for length and head.

sorry, i some times forget that Craftsman had a few different lines of torque wrenches. I should be more specific, it was their "microtorq" line like in the picture attached. the locking ring is plastic and is prone to break; it's apparently happened to everyone i know personally that have owned the same torque wrench and Sears/Craftsman won't fix or replace it.

OMG, those are awful, or were for me (huge photo removed for bandwidth)! The handle spun in relation to the numbers and then you had NO way of knowing what setting you were at. That was the first and last Cman torque wrench I ever owned. I'm glad you at least have had good service from them!

Now FWIW I have an SK 1/2" drive which goes to 250ft lbs. I didn't go thru the links in post #1 as my connection is happy to be extra slow this morning. But I really like my SK, it's given me years of service and no issues at all. It just works.

BTW, regarding shipping costs... they refunded me the difference in actual shipping versus what i paid. I think it's very fair... I paid like $12 for shipping all 3 torque wrenches.

The heads on them look identical to an old Master Mechanic USA ratchet I have. The head on that is a bit thicker than most ratchets, but it had a good feel to it. It was my go-to ratchet for awhile until I got something that was fine-tooth.

The only thing holding me back is that it appears to be a plastic retaining ring, not metal. And I might even over look that since this looks like a killer deal!

no, where the "SK" logo should be, is blank. but "SK" is printed all over the owner's manual, but either blacked out by pen or with a sticker over it. so, obviously, they were SK ...

there's no "retaining ring" like other torque wrenches. the mechanism to "lock" the torque setting in place is to "pull" the bottom cap out, adjust, and then "push" the bottom cap up again. Granted, the handle is a rubbery material and the cap is plastic, but I can't tell if it is connected to something internally that is metal or not.

one thing I really like about these is the "dual pane" torque scale. very very easy to read compared to the ones like the microtorq craftsman or HFT with the scale stamped on the side of the tube.

i have many torque wrenches, and although I haven't tested these for accuracy, the ergonomics alone i would say these SKs are better than Craftsman and HFT, but I think I still enjoy my Gearwrench (also made in USA) clickers and Gearwrench Electronic torque wrenches more.

Just ordered the 150 ft lb 1/2" model. I'll see how it goes. Maybe in the future I'll get the 250 in lb depending on how much I like this one.

The one I ordered arrived today.

It has the metric scale, the foot pound, and then below that is the 'fine foot pound.'

Here's how the cap looks when you pull it down to 'unlocked.'

Under the stickers and black marker is Sk, as others said.

Came with a manual and calibration card. According to the card, it was calibrated the day I placed the order on ebay, as the description claimed it would be.

they are made by the company selling them on eBay for SK. but it sounds like SK changed suppliers so this is left over stock. they have SK logo everywhere, but it is either scratched out or covered with a sticker.

Yeah, that's where we got them from.

It doesn't say sk on the torque wrench anywhere.

It says sk all over the manual and certification card, but it was either blacked out or covered with two stickers.

Looking at pricemans certificate there, they tested the wrench at the bottom, middle then top of its rated range. The results show these wrenches are just as accurate at the extreme ends of the range as they are in the middle. That contradicts what I have heard and read so many times, that torque wrenches are sufficiently accurate and should only be used in the middle 80% of their range. That doesn't look to be the case with these. Is that because these are high quality torque wrenches or the way they rate them? Can anyone explain?

Even so, these are very accurate even at the bottom of the scale. At least pricemans wrench is.

ETA: That is the 30-150 ft-lbs torque wrench.

So, what was the verdict on these wrenches? Are they worth picking up a set? Assembled in USA isn't quite Made in USA like the new SK's will likely be... but for the money that's close enough.

I don't believe the seller made the wrenches, I believe they were made in USA by J S Torque Technology, a division of Danaher. The same folks that made the Craftsman Micro Torque. The plastic locking cap breaking seems pretty common on these.

Craftsman Microtork wrenches use a different head and a completely different locking mechanism. They have a collar that twists on the top of the grip to lock or unlock them. A lot of people complain of this collar breaking. I owned a Microtork for about 10 years and mine never broke, but it is a cheap, flimsy design.

Attached is a pic of the Microtork handle.

I agree with you Stephen, even if they are the same OEM, the part that breaks on the Cman is different than the SK. They actually look quite a bit different.

I know that Jetco sells their own torque wrenches. Whether or not they actually manufacture them I'm not certain.
