Lift: 4 post vs 2 post

What do you prefer? I am considering purchasing a lift at a upcoming auction. They have a 4 post rotary with open front and jacks and a 2 post rotary. I cant decide. I like the idea of a 4 post for the fact I could store a car on it but I like the footprint that the 2 post takes up and that you could lift vehicle bodies off easy. What do like using best?

I think it depends on what you plan on using it for ? do u plan on doing a lot of vehicle repair and modification ? I would think the 4 post would get annoying fast and would hinder your movement a lot. the thing I like with the 2 post is the total open area around the wheels , a lot more room for you to work.

I don't get it why people don't like to work on cars on 4 posts. I've worked in a shop for quite some time now with just 4 posts, nothing you can't do. Other shops do it too here, works just great! Two big axle supports or a in-between-lanes lift and your golden!

If I had the room, 4 post lift... But since i'll be a one-car-garage-owner in the near future, a 2-post lift must make do...

I went with 4 Post bend pak and the 4500 pound rolling jack. There are no limits with that set up.

If I had to pick one it would be a 2 post lift. I just feel as already said it is more versatile than a 4 post......particularly if you are doing suspension work or changing wheels and tires.....and the smaller foot print. You can store a car on it as well. With all this said I finally after 6 years of owning 2 post lifts I picked up a 4 post lift for car storage. The car storage was my primary purpose for it and for storage 4 post in my opinion is the better lift. After I set it up I am finding I am now using it for some mechanical work and it has been very nice. In conclusion, buy both!;)
