I have decided to do a build thread, even though I am not "DONE" but here we go....

First step was that my house is on a hill, not a major hill but about 2ft higher on on end of the futere building to the other. To fix this and give the wife some grass to play in. We (I) built a wall....

"Bookshelf framing"... commercial framing. I have had lots of question about this and here are some pics of the bigging....

2 x 8 sideways with 22.5" spacers.... This really tells you how straight these damn poles are...(there not)

Contractors don't do this because there is quite abit of ratcheting the poles together so they are exactly 8' apart... all the way up and down....straight poles now

Ceiling Drywalls, 18" of Cellulose blown in.... that is a lot of cellulose to blow in when it is 10 degrees outside.... R-58 to R-64.8 depending on site

Walls filled, (will get photos) R-24 to R-28 depending on the website you go to.... that is some serious sound deadening before drywall.... It sounds like a recording studio in there.
I am getting a little reverb back with drywalling....

I got my cellulose from Menards, I attached their value sheet and it says around R-60 for 18" and about R-25 for my 7.5', BUT they lied about coverage by about 20% so I don't trust it that much.... I attached it, for reference to anyone....

Tell more about radiat heat. What is going to be your heat source. Did you build the manifold. How think was the slab. And how did you not put a hole in the tubing when anchoring lift.

Trusses
Truss I put up by hand....MYSELF on most and with some helping hand of my wife, friend on the rest.

Even with 2x6 bottom cords they only weighed 140 pounds each.

Flipped them upside down, let one end rest on the ground and stick other end up over the headers... 14-15' up at that point.

Then grab the other end and climb those horizontal bookshelf studs... move the truss up 2', climb 2' > move truss up 2', climb 2', and so on...not hard at all really.

After about 10 I got tired and had to have a Mountian Dew and a smoke, then back at it. When help arrived I would only have to climb one side not carry and lift.

Wiring

125 amp sub panel Seimans 220v
2.5' sc40 conduit from house 2224 MHF and cat5 (for wifi)
80amp breaker in main panel (house)
5.5" of fomular 250 behind panel then drywall, box surface mounted

Lights and outlets, all conduit and solid thhn 12....
Lift and Air compressor stranded thhn 10...
I will get more photos. this post is show how few I really have...

Floor

If you look back at the tubing pics, I left a 4' square where the two post was going, so no tubes in that area.
5" thick concrete fibered
No concrete between poles, 2" around entire perimiter and 4" at door ways. 10 mil plastic, with foundation coating to seal out gound moisture from getting to insulation.

Perimiter of concrete assembly consist of outside to inside...
1. Vinyl Siding
2. house wrap, taped all seams
3. 2x6 TG treated
4. 10 mil vapor barrier
5. foundation coating over barrier and treated lumber (poles, girts, etc)
6. 7.5" of cellulose and foam
7. 2x6 treated concrete/foam form
8. 2" xps
9. Heated Slab

Garage Doors can't have all that so... I have doubled the 2" xps up to get the most I could and still protect and hide it.

Radiant
7kw electric tankless boiler,
bought Rifeng 5 port manifold, Grundfos 3 speed pump
and plan to add a couple solar collectors to the system.

Electric because I can make electric!!!

I can't make gas or wood and use it anyway to heat my garage....LOL:lol_hitti

This Photo isn't he perminate conduit runs, just a few outlets to work off of, a 220v outlet for compressor, 220 run for 2PL, and two switches (one row per switch)

Tha's A LOT of insulation. That with the floor radiant heat should make for a real cozy and warm gearage. Is that your 56 convertible?

I'm curious? What do you do for a living? You seem to have mastered all the building trades. You did this all by yourself with very little help, makes my back hurt just looking at all that drywall.

Very nice garage.

How do you make electricity for you boiler?

Resume for Garagejournal...lol

I am a 31 year old Electro-Mech Engineer by Job title. I do have multiple engineering degrees, Lots of experience in high production Factories and have ZERO college debt, because I have always worked the whole time to pay for it.

I used to work at 84 Lumber, before my first degree was done.(Material knowledge aswell as learned contractor mistakes without having to do them)

I grew up with a very capable father, I have just learned from him and I mix all the technology I have at my disposal. (internet). My brother and I built a 60 x 80 with a 16' metal pole build in high school, for Dad. (first exsperience with a building from scratch)

If I don't know it I research, research and then DO it.

Right Now,
I work with a team/group engineers developing and producing control devices for almost all automotive companies. (sensors) Stoneridge/Hi-stat

I would NOT say I have Mastered all of them, but when you're by yourself, and I usually am. I am very good at finding a way to do it, myself.....

Example: the drywall wasn't a real big deal.... Started on the bottom of the walls with a 2x4 and a 2x10 as a foot lift. Working at 84 lumber taught me, right away how to pick up pairs (or more) drywall with out too much "work" or any back pain. Picture is not me but it is the only image on google that shows it properly done by yourself. This way you are using your olbiques and not your back to lift because you can't really do it bent over unless your ShaQ. Knees are forced to be used.

25-more-heavy-lifting-minimalism.jpg

then I pretty much walked up the skafolding seen in the pictures. For the ceiling I used a drywall lift with the extenstion bought it at Sears. Made that pretty simple but did take time going up and down skafolding. A Help no and then quadroupled the speed on the ceiling.

I have mud on all the walls primed some. "Finish" mudding this week and going to by a Wagner interior sprayer.... damn 12" rollers are wearing me out on these walls so the ceiling will ****.... sprayer will come in handy other places aswell.

How do I, make electric?
Grid Tied Solar Panels www.wholesalesolar.com

1956 Bel Air Vert
That 56 is really Phillip manufaturings... We replaced the original exhaust with a stainless system.... that thing only has 14k miles on it and no one around would do the work because it was appraised at 140,000 bucks. I did it though. It sucked but I did. (the exhaust runs through the x frame under the convertables)

40kbtu Kerosene.....:lol_hitti

takes about 30mins to get it from 32 to 55-60degrees.

Not ready for Radiant part put together. I need to get walls painted, Shelves and cabinets up. That way I can get stuff off the floors and out of the way.

Right now it is costing:
40,000 Kerosene Torpedo .2 gallons an hour.
$4.50 an gallon
=$0.90 an hour to heat it up 32 to 60

32degrees which is the lowest I have seen it since drywall has been up. Not heating at all unless I am out there.

Radiant, will be on the list once the shelving and cabinets are up.

Yea, been wondering what the outside looks like. Nice. And the lift, when did the lift arrive? Tell us about that.
I like your idea of running the electrical in conduit on outside of the sheet rock walls so additions and changes can be made later. I have flexible metal planned for mine also, sorta for the same reason but sorta because someone gave me a bunch of it. Will give it an "industrial look" too.
Would love to see that 14K mile convertible. Most of my '54 Buicks are low mile originals. A 4 door Roadmaster w/13K, a 2 door Roadmaster w/ 86K and a 4 door Special (daily driver) w/27K . They're only original once.
All is lookin good, keep us posted.

Fun.....nice job on the garage/barn!!!!!

What size holes did you put in the ground for your poles? ANd what size of poles, how deep, and did you put anything in the bottom of the holes?

Just curious with questions so I can figure what I am going to need to add on to my garage, hopefully this year.
