I am new to the group but browsing through many of the gallery posts got me jazzed up to give my garage a rethink.

Here are a few pictures before I started cleaning it up and making some changes.

I We have lived in this house for over 5 years and I have been telling myself I would run an air line from the utility room outside the garage to in the carage through the attic so I figures this was a good time to do it. I decided to add some storage while I was at it so above the open wall I put a 18 foot long 16 inch deep shelf. I also took some ime to finally finish capping off the columns.

Here is the reel mounted on the post. Tomorrow I will try to get the line run through the attic over to the reel and add the water filter.

Welcome!

That's a neat looking space you have. I like the open nature of it, but I'd be afraid of vandals.

A_Pmec, I understand the vandal worry, thankfully I live in a very safe place. Funny part of this house when we were looking in the area for houses we passed this one up several time because we did not think there was a garage. It is doglegged behind the house to where you cannot even see it.

Scottyvetteguy,
I believe when the house was originally built in the early 90's it was a double carport with a raised side area for "storage". Some time after they built it they put the door in and left the back open with the 4x4 posts with lattice in between them I added the railings and capped over the posts to give the the beefier "pole bar" look. I thought I would not like the openness but it is nice to have the patio and deck right off the back of the garage.

I am glad I found this site lots of good information and ideas!

I have an electrician coming out on Friday to give me a quote on running a dedicated circuit panel just for the garage. It is currently on a breaker in the box in the laundry room.

Well I am still working on cleaning up trying to get things straightened up. I think I made a bigger mess cleaning the place.

I will try to post some pictures tomorrow.

I did get an get a quote on my electrical on Friday. There is already power run with a plug on each wall and one center light. I got a quote to add 2 outlets on each wall and 2 in the ceiling. They are all quoted for 2 30amp circuits which is plenty for my needs.

Added a neat little sign to my air reel

IMG_2680.jpg

Brought Dad's old Duplex box home. I want to clean it but it is in good shape. Have some of the tools he made in the 70's when he was in machine shop school when he retired from the Navy.

IMG_2681.jpg

Pick up the 44 inch box from HF over the weekend. I got the bottom fro 200.00 since there was a dent in it. Had to pay full price on the top but over all a good deal. I was going to get the stand box they sell but were out of. It was on coupon for 319.00 so I basically bout the top of this for what I would have paid for the set and splurged the other 200.00 on the "dented" bottom.

The bench is still a little messy at the moment. but I am still trying to clean things up. I brought the 2 sets of tool drawers home from Dad's over the weekend. I still need to take things out of the little plastic drawers and put it in those. Moved the Drill press to the opposite end of the bench and put the old Machinist box that has most of the drill bits in it beside it. To get the 44 inch box beside the bench I had to move it down about 2 feet.

IMG_2683.jpg

the middle light is wire to teh original garage light so that it will turn on from teh switch in the house. The one over the window will be on a plug in the ceiling that will be added when the electrician puts the added power to the garage.

IMG_2684.jpg

Went with 2 4 bulb lights over the bench and boxes. They will also have a plug in the ceiling in the end.

Interesting, I like it!
When my wife and I were looking at houses we came across one that was similar. used be a car port, then they closed it in a bit with the door but left the back part open.
But other than yours and that one we found, I've never seen it!

Its different to have the open wall and you loose alot of space but I have kind of gotten used to it and like it.

Here is the Craftsman Machinist box that I keep most of my drill bits in.

IMG_2688[1].jpg

one of my original boxes that got me going nuts buying tools. This is a set my dad bought me from Napa probably when I was about 10 years old. Back then the old napa guys would make my dad deal on "dent" boxes.
IMG_2701[1].jpg
some of the stuff in that box. In that drawer in the back there are several front end tools that belonged to my wife's dad. I have added several old tools of his into my boxes since his passing 15 years ago.
IMG_2702[1].jpg

This old Craftsman 3 drawer was one that was in the sold shop dad worked at that burned back in the late 80's it was cleaned up and painted while they painted a used fire truck what 20 years ago. I have the middle box and the Union box on it.

Piked up the HF 4 inch bottom (dented Price) for 200.00 I was planning on buying the standard set that they had on coupon special for 315 but they were out and made me this offer. Since I was looking at spending 300 originally and this was such a deal I went ahead and bought the top check to go with it.

These are 2 of the parts bins I bought home. I scored the red one at a flea market a couple weeks ago. it is actually supposed to bolt onto the shelves in a service van. The blue set is 1 of 2 that size. The other is at my dad's still. He got them many years ago from one of the napa guys as a dent deal.

IMG_2706[1].jpg
This is 2 of the 3 jacks I have. the yellow hand is a walker that my dad has been lugging arround since the 60's. He had it and a pair of jack stand that he used to work on the Beetles him and mom owned when he was in the navy. I need to get it rebuilt to use it. The other is an Allied I believe 3 1/2 ton that I got a sams years ago.

IMG_2707[1].jpg
A bench top bearing grease packer. This was another of my wife's dads tools I ended up with. I need to straighten out the base then I plan to build a shelf for it and mount it on one of the posts in the garage. it will never get used but is a neat talk about piece.

Air reel picture again with my little sign on it.

the 4 and 2 tube florescent lights. They will in the end have plug in the ceiling to power them. I had the plugged in on the walls to see how much light I would get.

Good old fashion Fireman's Hand Lantern. These are maid my Stream light. I use them in place of drop lights when working on fire trucks. Water proof, rechargeable and have about 8 hour life on a full charge. the corded light gives me a little extra light when needed and a power socket.

Picked these 2 cabinets up off CL. The red cabinet is wood. The blue and white is a metal with nice glass.

I have hung the red one horizontal and made it my cordless drill cabinet. The other one will eventually hold oil and filters for the cars.

The red cabinet was supposed to be upright like a normal cabinet but I did not like it like that so I decided to turn it sideways. It works great to keep my cordless drills and drivers along with the batteries and chargers put up put of the way.

Was looking at one of the repop Texaco bullet trash cans at Hobby Lobby when they had it marked down to 80.00 but then when I decided to buy it BOOM Sold out. This morning me and the baby decided to go to a flea market while mom was working. Picked up this 35 gallon grease barrel for 35.00 to use as a trash can in the garage. 8.00 in hose slit down the middle to hold the trash bag and I thin I came out even better that the repop can I was looking at.

Now that's my idea of a trash can! Seems like most of the old service stations would usually have an old 30 or 50 gallon oil barrel for trash. Time to start looking for one-much more character than the beat up plastic trash can I'm using now. Just wondering why I didn't think of this myself. Thanks for the reminder!

GGB my only caution would be watch what they ask for price. at the same flea market three was a Gulf barrel that you could barley see the color rusted out bottom and they were asking 3 times as much. If you find one I used 3/4 heater hose slit down the middle and that will hold the trash back. I had the bag folded up to see the can graphics.

Had to break down and replace the old garage door and opener today. It is a Wayne Dalton made door with a Genie opener.

added the additional florescent lights up a couple of weeks ago. Have the HVAC company coming to put in a tankless water heater Friday so I figured since I have to take off work I might as well make the best of it. I called up the electricians and they are going to come out and do all of the garage wiring Friday also.

Had 3 20amp circuits run Friday and everything went smoothly. Happy that I can now run the 110 welder from any wall in the garage!

Your garage looks way better with lighting and tools in it.

I have a carport which I am considering inclosing, pending a quote. The Open air garage crossed my mind, but may end up making mine a drive thru garage as a portal to a detached garage. Which Flea market did you find that can at? Any others? I'm new to the Meridian area, so I've been on the hunt.

I have yet to make my way to Jackson, but am itching to go out there to see what kind of pieces I can find. If you don't mind, hook me up with a list of fleas I must make a stop at when looking in the Jackson area.

The is "The Flea Market" on Flowood Dr. Take the Flowood Exit of of I20 and go right and cross HWY 80 it will be I guess a mile down on the left.

When you finish there go back toward the interstate where you got off. when you cross hwy80 it actually turns into hwy 49 south. There are several stops along 49 that you can make. The big flea markets down that way are about a 15 or so minute drive depending on lights and traffic. just keep going south. They are on the right just past Donnas Produce (cant miss it).

That being said there is a place and as far as I know it does not have a name. It is i think is further south by about another 15 minutes. it is a building that used to be a house with a cage around the front. I have never been to that one I believe it is only open on Saturdays. You will know it when you see it. It looks run down and packed full of stuff.
