Hi everyone, I am in the process of building my first garage. It is 30'x30' with a 9'8" wall. It has a 6/12 pitch on the roof with a 24" overhang. The garage doors are 12' wide by 8'6" high. I went with half scissor trusses and half attic room trusses after I noticed a few garages like that on here. Here is my progress so far.

I broke up and hauled the concrete back in late May or early June. The concrete was poured in the beginning of August and the frame was put up in the beginning of September. I just finished the soffit and facia today. As far as heating I plan to use a hanging natural gas heater and I have no plans for ac right now, maybe a window unit if it gets too hot.

Looking really nice so far. I can't wait to see it when it's all done. What are you planning for the floor?

I like the 2 foot overhang. I put a 1 foot overhang on my garage. If I had to do it over again I would go with 2 foot, but the 1 foot overhang is acceptable.

I am not sure what to do for the floor, it has a concrete sealer on it now.

Looks great! How are you guys getting away with a concrete pad only and not a footing??

My garage is 25x20 and it required 28 yards of concrete. Excessive? Yes, but thats what the town required.

The slab is 5" with an 8" footing around the perimeter there is 2 sticks of 1/2" rebar around the perimeter, mesh through the whole slab and fiber in the mix.

Looking great, I wish I would have done siding on my garage. We went the T-111 route and 20 years later its all rotting off the building. I really like those trusses, nice job.

Thanks guys, I am a mechanic by trade and have wanted a heated space to do some projects during the long winter. There is a small loft in the garage that i am planning to finish off for my 2 girls to play in while i work out there.

The siding is almost all done. I need to trim out the area around the garage doors then finish that wall.

I am working on the garage door openings today. I was not sure exactly how to trim them out, but after searching and considering the options I went with steel facia. The facia was 12$ for a 12'x6" piece. I considered pvc boards but did not want to spend the extra $. I am facing the jams and top plate and also going around the interior were the tracks for the door will mount then after the doors are up I will finish the interior with white metal liner panel.

Nice looking garage. Bet you will be glad when it gets fully closed in so you can work in the heated space this winter. The loft space has a ladder to it or a staircase of some kind? If the kids play up there, what are you doing for a railing?

Keep posting on your progress.

I am planning to build a narrow staircase along the wall and build a railing that will bolt to the floor so that it can be easily removed if we want to put something big up there.

Quick update, we have both garage doors in place (tracks are not on yet) and 3 of the walls are insulated. I also picked up my heater and hope to have it installed soon as the highs have only been in the high 30s or low 40s.

I picked up my lights, they are sylvania LEDs. They fit in a standard 4" junction box and put out 900 lumens a piece. I will have a total of 13 lights, 8 over my main work bay and 5 over the parkking bay. So far I have 4 installed and think they look pretty good.

those look great! I might have to look into those for my small shop.

D.

They are working great so far. I put them in 4" ceiling boxes. You put a bracket in the box then the light kind of snaps into place. If you ever need to service it you just pull it loose.

Progress has been slow. I have been getting ready to blow in the insulation in the ceiling. Almost there then on to the heat!
