Kraeuter fine Tools Since 1860..."Ask any Mechanic, pliers, snips, chisels, punches, star drills and other tools".

Kraeuter was Incorporated in 1907 in Newark N. J. They specialized in pliers for every day use; The history of the company starts to get a little dicey due to the fact that I can not find out much information about when they folded their operations. The AA web-site lists a catalog from a company still selling their tools and that has a 1959 date.

Now this next part starts to get rather cloudy; SK tools enters the picture but only from the Dresser Industries part of the whole picture and that would be in 1968. Dresser bought out the trademark on oct. 24th 1972.

If anyone has any information from say 1960 to 1968 please post it up maybe we can solve those missing years.

Of special Note All of my sets are from the Dresser years.

One of my favorite plier mfg's.
I guess it's a 3 way tie...
Kraeuter, Forged Steel Products (vacume grip), and Pexto.

SK was making Kraeuter wrenches before they bought them out. I have wrenches from the '60s, made by SK. I have also seen socket sets, also suspiciously like SK. Newer than my wrenches, though.

This is the part that stumps me Symington Wayne bought sk in 1962, till either 68/69. Dresser was the party interested in the kraeuter name not the other way around. That is why I am not sure from what happened from the early 1960's???

Woody, great post. The first picture you have up was my first ratchet set, I remember grabbing for the blue box often. I find Kraeuter less than 10% of the time of the time. Where there tools priced a bit higher so people were buying more of the competition? Or most likely many different companys making tools back in the day. I find more Klein than Kraeuter.
Here is an example, I went through a box of 55 pliers and pulled the Kraeuter's

The Kraeuter linesman pliers are great. I have a pair of 8-1/2 inch that are my go to. Also have a pair of dikes that are pretty nice. I have no idea of the era of my tools but they still work great. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1418857496.701558.jpg

I have a pair of glazier's pliers like yours. They are second from left in your second pic next to the long pair with rubber on the handles. Mine are marked Kraeuter USA 451-8 and the inside of the handles have the old style "Kraeuter USA" stamp.

These were used to grip and snap off glass after scoring. They were handy when a narrow strip had to be snapped off.

I got a pair of slip join Kraeuter pliers, the teeth on them are great and they have that same old sk glassy chrome that I love, my favorite pair of slip-joints now.

Because of Woody I was moved to check my pliers drawer and sure enough, I found this nice needle nose pliers. Been painted many different colors over the years but it seems to add to the character.

Woody: thanks for starting this thread a few years ago like so many others you started about companies that some of us haven't heard much about.

every time i pick up a Kraeuter tool at a sale i usually buy it cause they are great quality and never expensive like Snap on or better known tool company names.

do you still own all those great sets you posted? any more to post pictures of cause I think Kraeuter tools have a nice look to them too?

HAPPY NEW YEARS ALL YOU OLD VINTAGE TOOL GUYS AND GALS!!

I have had this one for about 6 years. It was left by the alignment rack for about 4yrs before I took it and asked everyone in the shop if it was theirs. It wasn't. Nobody knew where it came from so I kept it.

Thanks!
I'm not sure why but it's been my go to breaker bar for about two years now. I just really like the way it feels. Now I want to search for more 😁

I have a set of kraeuter combination wrenches that showed up at my home farm in the early 70's. I was a little kid, just around starting school age at the time.

I think it was something the feed company gave their customers. It came in a blue plastic case that lasted quite a while but eventually became brittle and broke.

The 1/2 inch wrench is the only one that broke. some quite a bit rustier than others, due to the jobs they had to do.

a little looking around suggests they were probably during the s-k era.
