i'm mainly looking at these two compressors from home depot .

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-8-Gal-Portable-Electric-Air-Compressor-TA-2530B/202564847

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Californ...il-Lubricated-Air-Compressor-263DLH/203245204
regular non silent type.

i'm on a very tight budget :(
biggest tool used on it will be a framing nailer doing mostly repairs for friends and family and an occasional deck , might build some deck furniture and smaller projects with brad and staple guns . and i'm not a speed demon in the trigger . will either/both of these compressors supply enough air for these purposes ? if both will which is better ? both are oil cooled , require modest amps (12.5 vs. 11) the husky has a Cast Iron Cylinder , the rep at CAT didn't know if the 263DLH does , i'm supposed to call back monday so he can find out . what ever i get i plan on getting the $20 2 year additional replacement warranty from HD .

it probably won't happen ... but if , IF i could swing the extra bucks will the makita MAC700 power a framing nailer ? it get's great comments and it seems to be built like a brick out house !

thanks , jeff

Both of those would run nail gun no problem.

For $142 the California Air direct-drive oil splash would be a nice portable small compressor that would likely last you many, many years.

I've got small twin-tank DeWalt oil splash that I got from Northern Tool for $149 less $20 RetailMeNot discount for remanufactured unit. It ran like a champ for nail gun I used driving 3 in nails for roof sheeting. Even less air needed for coil air nailer which ran great. I turned down regulator to 90 psi on the DeWalt and it ran either nailer perfectly.

I vote for the California Air in your situation. Buy from HD before 7/25/15 and convince them to honor price match of 11% rebate that Menards is offering. ;)

Both are oil splash lubed. The Husky says it is a cast iron cylinder. The California Air Tools does not say.

Interesting that the CAT is listed as "2 HP" and the Husky is listed as "1.5 HP" but the Husky has more CFM @ 90 PS (4.0 vs 3.5 CFM)

Both are good deals.

Pick it up at the store. These small compressors frequently get damaged in shipping. At the store, you can refuse delivery, while with home deliver you have to repack it and ship it back.

Extended warranty may be worth the money as many seem to die within 1 year.

I have the Husky 8 gal and I like it for what it is. I'm learning a little about 'lectric here as applies to motors etc. I've seen online several what look like clones of the Husky, with some rated 2hp. I think the hp claims are somewhat 'flexible' because it depends on the efficiency of the motor (if that's even added into the calculations every time), as amps x volts / 745 gives un-adjusted hp. Multiply by efficiency and you should get the true hp.

Anyhow, I like mine as it gives enough air for nail guns, is easily transportable, and only needs 120V. Supposedly it's 4cfm @ 90psi.

HD sells a Makita 3 hp 5.2gal 6.5cfm for now $299 that looks attractive but for the life of me I don't know why its not set up with dual tanks.

Good luck ! Not a lot to choose from in that price range that I would recommend except some of the CAT oil-less.

There are a few good oil lubed portables in the $300-$350.

the guy at CAT was back today and he said the 263DLH does have a cast iron cylinder . 11 amps for 3.5 SCFM @ 90PSI seems power friendy for the volume ........

FWIW, I've owned a CAT 10020 (2 hp/10 gal) for about 6 months now and I've got nothing but good things to say about it - it's so quiet!

I can't say anything about it's durability yet though.

Same here. Been great so far. Got it on super-sale right before Christmas - the gift my wife doesn't know about

Jeff, where are you located?

thanks ;)
i'm really looking forward to using it . i've been on disability for a bit and had surgery in april that is helping a lot . still gotta get a knee replaced , so it'll be a year or so before i'll be good to go again . this compressor with a framing nailer will allow me to make a few duckies on the side while i ease my way back into working and being active again .

i believe this has the same motor/pump as your 10 gallon ;) .
i'll be using milton V series hi-flo fittings .
