Just got an email from Toolnut about a sale they are having on the Fein ASCM 18 QX. I have always drooled over this machine but could not justify buying into another cordless battery line when I am already invested in Metabo, Festool, and Hilti. But for the $169, I am all in for another drill.:D

BTW, it is made in Germany and has 4 gears.

I'm waffling back and forth. Already heavily into the m12 line. Have a cheapie Kobalt 18v drill for when I need more powah. Really wanting to hold out for a Fuel m18.

Well. I didn't waffle too much. Brushed off my German from the cobwebs in my head, watched a bunch of German you tube videos expounding on the awesomeness of this drill and then I bought one.

I wonder if this thing would be nicer than my Bosch 18V... This is seriously tempting considering how on sale it is. I've nearly bought the M12 Fuel 1/2" Drill off CPO several times now. This is about the same price.

Though, I'm not seeing... great reviews on this thing actually. Amazon reviews are mixed, and I'm seeing a lot of complaining about the plastic removable chuck. Does anyone here actually have one?

4 outta 5 stars on Amazon is pretty good imo. (only 4 ppl reviewed lol)

As far as the removable chuck, I have similar systems in my Metabo and Festool drills and I like and prefer a removable chuck. I can go from drilling to fastening much quicker with a removable chuck

Wow....unreal deal......I have one & it is definitely a big upgrade over the normal brands you will see at the box stores.

The 4 speeds, brushless motor, removable chucks, plastic case, & (2) 4.0ah batteries are a steal at this price. They must be clearing them out.....this drill is NOT made in China....it is made in Germany.

Well, that sold me on it. Picked one up. I have such a hard time passing up any good deal on a good tool. Do I really need 4 cordless drills? I'm sure not but here's number 4!

Don't sell it until we get them in our hands - I just got a note from tool nut that the drill is delayed "Several business days". Sounds like an Autoplicity in the making (but I'm hoping it is not).

another drop ship company with no inventory?? bleh

If these drop shippers can get these items so cheap from the manufacturer, wouldn't anybody be able to? It's not like they're mass purchasers like Lowes and HD. Cut out the middle man. I wonder who the major distributor is for Fein in USA?

I've never seen such a good drill look so cheap/terrible...

Am I the only one that thinks this thing looks like something you would buy from HF?

The Kawasaki drills come to mind.

It looks like something a Harley rider with a tool fetish would put on the back of his bike instead of a Barbie doll. You're right, it does look like a generic brand drill..

Argh. I need to stay out of this forum section. Just what I need is another drill. The color is bright but not really different from any other "identity" color - they're all kinda garish. I've used the Fein drill. Very powerful, especially for the weight, and it feels like a quality unit.

I agree with rice rocket. You have nothing to worry about Toolnut is one of the best internet vendors I have dealt with. It is an upstanding company that may have received more orders than they anticipated.

Thanks for the heads up - now if someone can just find a similar deal on a Fein impact driver, that'd be great! I have a pile of Dewalt stuff, and really didn't need a new drill...but the other Fein tools I own are great, so I'm going for it. I need to stop looking at this forum! Ha!

In for one. I don't care how it looks (not that bad, to me) but what matters is the quality and I know that for $169 a made-in-Germany Fein with two batteries is a smoking deal. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Can't bring myself to buying it. I've been happy with my new Milwaukee stuff and the new Fuel hammer drill will be next. I love the fact that once I sell my Bosch, I will have only two battery types for every cordless tool I own!

Hello there. Shane from The Tool Nut here. I just wanted to address any concerns about our shipping delays on the Fein drills.

We are not drop shipping these drills. We are a stocking authorized dealer for Fein. The distributor for Fein in the U.S. is... Fein. :p

We do have some of these drills left, but once they're gone at this price, the price will return to its previous higher price. This is a limited time offer, while supplies last.

Sorry for any delays in order fulfillment for those who have ordered. If you've done business with The Tool Nut, you know we usually orders same day. But, your order is guaranteed and it'll be on its way shortly.

Hi Shane, I'm Shane.
Thanks for the update! Sorry about what I posted, it was in response to what someone else said, and the fact that it seemed similar to a problem we recently had with an Amazon seller. Several GJ members assured you're legit also, so I'll be shopping from you in the near future. ~~~

No problem at all. You never know who's on the other end of the browser and there are some shady sellers out there, especially on Amazon.

I just happened to see the thread and wanted to pop in and quell any concern.

Think I've posted on the forum before when I worked for Festool USA. But, glad to be a resource to the forum members. Hit me up if you ever need anything or have questions about our products.

Thanks,
Shane

I bought one. Despite having just bought a metabo LTX driver and drill.

It looks like a great drill and the price point too, I've stopped buying tools made in China so this was a must have at this price point. I see some of the negative remarks being the sheathing on the chuck is plastic, the clutch's torque settings seem somewhat limited and a source of complaints for some, and there seem to be some remarks that the battery over time can be difficult to slide into the drill due to its design (I don't quite understand this but maybe it'll be more apparent in person).

Hi Shane,

What are the chances of getting one of these shipped to New Zealand for me?

Cheers,
Jacob

Looks like a great deal, but a replacement battery, a couple of years from now, will set you back more than the cost of the drill. Quick search shows a new battery to be over $200. Too rich for my blood, as I've never owned a cordless tool that didn't need new batteries down the road.

Li-ion batteries have much better longevity than Nicd or NiMH batteries, especially in low usage patterns. Current chemistries go ~4-5 years in heavy use, probably closer to 10-15 years with light use.

Anyways, if you have the pack already, cells are ~$10 a piece when bought in low volumes. Repack them yourself. And by the time 10 years rolls around, the capacities will probably double as well (as they have currently).

I checked Fedex International just to see how much it would cost to ship if someone here in the states ordered one for you and then shipped it to you and it was showing 292$ to ship to Christchurch... Knocks the deal right out of the whole thing.

Selling grey market goods across borders most likely violates their distribution agreement as well...

It probably just wouldn't be warrantied. I wouldn't think there's an issue with a end consumer selling or gifting it to someone in another country in a non official capacity. That is as long as it doesn't violate export regulations for like... encryption or weaponry.

Thanks mate. Thought that might be the case. Which is strange because I've bought bigger packages from the U.S. and shipping has always been reasonable. I don't remember who the shipping company was but I've found FedEx to always be expensive to NZ.

I'm sure this is a great drill, I have a few Fein corded drills and grinders etc that have convinced me to never buy another brand if Fein offer what I need, I don't do cordless for the same reason as someone mentioned above, but good points have been raised and for US$169 - how could you go wrong?

If you're worried about batteries, buy two sets :)

Also, regarding warranty, surely it must still be valid, what if I bought it while I was in the U.S.? I wouldn't have thought it would make a difference if they send it to me here or to Texas as long as it was purchased from an authorised dealer? I've bought a grinder from Amazon.de and have registered for the warranty online, I haven't tried to get a replacement so not sure if any flags will pop up but I'm not expecting to have to get a replacement. For some reason shipping takes longer to NZ than what Amazon suggests acceptable, I got a full refund on that grinder because it didn't turn up un time, two days later.... :)
