I am looking to purchase some normal or low profile wrench racks for my box. I currently use those foam craftsman cut to fit ones, which work well, but they are gapped very far apart. Could a couple of you guys take pics and measurements of yours for me? I would like to know how many wrenches fit within a foot lets say. I am speaking of the individual rails that have magnet strips or 3m tape and you can decide how far apart to set them. Thanks, Glenn

I'm doing this right now as well.
The Snap On KRA15A rails are about an inch tall, and from what I understand the Ernst equivalent, the space saver rails are closer to two inches tall. I just got the Snap On rails and I'm still deciding on how to best organize what I have. I picked the SO over Ernst because it seemed like they would help me fit the wrenches in a 2" deep drawer.
Here's a picture of a test fit. The largest size shown here is 19mm:3b773d89523926b33069406aca2f1fda.jpg
Here's the remaining wrenches in the drawer I intend to put these in

Do those racks really increase the amount of wrenches that will fit in a drawer? I've got 5 drawers in my box dedicated to wrenches and still have some loose ones about... I'd really like to condense that.

We'll see. I have family visiting this weekend, but when they leave, I'm going to experiment some. Of course, loose wrenches would likely allow denser storage, but then you have to dig. I'm not going to put all my wrenches in the racks, but by having most of them there, they will be easier to identify and wouldn't move when the drawer closes. Worth it for me.

I would say the Snap-on wrench rails really do help reduce the amount of space wrenches take up. They also allow wrenches larger than 27mm or 1-1/4" (largest I have) to stand up in a medium height 4" Snapon drawer.

I have the Ernst space saver rails, they're too tall for my KR1000. The Ernst 5060 is much shallower, it fits my 6-21mm combo set with no fuss, but non-adjustable. I need to try those KRA15As mentioned above.

Same here, the ernst rails won't accommodate a wrench larger then an inch in my krl, it flipping pisses me off.

How many wrenches can you fit within 18"? My drawers that I currently keep my wrenches in are 18" long and 2" high. I can fit 16 wrenches in the Craftsman cut to fit and then I have one of the cheap 15 wrench racks. The normal racks seem to fit more than the low profiles within the same space, correct?

Here is a picture of my metric wrenches. On the left is the Ernst 6050 low profile with Craftsman stubbies from 10-22 mm.

On the right is an Ernst 5060 with Wrightgrips from 7 -24 mm skipping 20 and 23.

I have just under 1-3/4" depth clearance before the wrenches would hit the drawer above when opening and closing. The 24 mm just fits under as does a 1" wrench in the same rack (5060), but different drawer.

Here is a pic of my SAE husky wrenches from 1/4" to 1 1/8" in an Ernst 5060 rack. Highest point is about 1 7/8" tall

Thanks for the pics, but those aren't the racks I am looking for. I have similar racks made by a knockoff brand. I want the individual rails like in rodsnratfinks photo.

The SO rails (KRA15A) with wrenches in them measured about 1 1/2 at the highest point with a SO 19mm combo wrench. With a 7/8 RP Craftsman combo, it was around 1 5/8.
Here they are somewhat finalized I need one more set of rails for my extras.

The wrenches are pretty densely packed. In my case, that was entirely necessary since I didn't want any wrenches in another drawer (all my drawers are full). I think they do a pretty good job. If you are planning on going much over 21mm, you might be better off going with the KRA22A instead. Considering that more that more 100 wrenches fit inside one relatively small drawer that measures under 2", I think it's quite the victory.

By the way, my drawer is just shy of 24" from front to back. I can measure the width in the morning if anyone wants me to. The largest wrench in the rail is probably the 7/8 RP Craftsman. I have a 21mm SO flare in there as well and neither have any clearance issues.
Also, a note on raised panel wrenches: My large C-man wrenches do not fit flush in the rails the way I have them configured (parallel). The RP section is of course thicker that the others so, unless the rails are set wide, those wrenches wouldn't seat completely. This isn't a problem for me, however, since I only have a few and will be replacing them with something decent soon enough.

Ok thanks for all the info. Just curious, does anyone know if the racks Snap on sells are the same as the Ernst 6015? I realize they only hold 20 wrenches, but thats about all I'd be able to fit in my drawers anyways.

They are not, the Ernst has slots that that vary in size from smallest to largest (or vise-versa) to accommodate different size wrenches. This ends up wasting a lot of space on the smaller wrenches, some end up taking up more room than they would just laying flat in the drawer.

The slot sizes on the Snap On rails are all the same size. I was able to get a greater density of wrenches using the Snap On rails that I was with the Ernst.

The ernst just sucked for me that way. I just don't own te perfectly indexing sizes that they are made for. The snappy black was my happy place. I could see a coil wire spacing them more tightly, but I'm happy with the SO for my mish mash of assorted small sets. The craftsman raised panel indexed sizes do good here because they came as a set with the rack.

I made my own out of tool foam because it gets bounced around in a trailer. You can not read the sizes but I was going for maximum use of space.

Correct. Notice, in my setup, I combined a large variety of wrenches in one rack. I have wrenches from 6mm to 21mm in combo and ratcheting, stubbies, flares, etc. I even have some common sizes doubled up. From everything I've researched, the KRA rails were the best solution for my needs.

Oh very good catch I didn't notice that. Are there any other brands similar to the Snap On racks? I'm not a mechanic by trade, so I try to get the cheaper stuff if possible. Plus I'm cheap in general...

They don't come much cheaper than that. They are only $15 a pair from Snap On with free shipping. The Ernst are about $10.
