I've been working on renovating my two car garage since the start of June. This was a total gut job down to the studs, because the space wasn't properly insulated and 3 bedrooms/1 bathroom are right above the garage. The main reason for starting this project this year was because we had a baby and wanted to make sure the bedroom above the garage was properly insulated; or at least I would like to think this was how I persuaded the wife to go forth with the project. I'm also enjoy detailing my personal vehicles, but the space was just too cluttered and dark.

The space before the renovation:

Hid all the wiring in the ceiling that was just stapled to the walls:

Insulated the Air Duct that was hidden in the ceiling:

Added Hot/Cold Water Hook-up:

Added Recessed Lighting in the car bay's and moved the fluorescent fixtures to the back area of the garage:

Cement Floor Grinded- I rented the 10" Diamond Brush Machine from Home Depot and used a smaller 4" Grinding Blade for the small/tight areas:

ArmorClad Primer/Epoxy put down, amazing product and very glad that I went with this instead of the Rustoluem product; many thanks to a forum member here and Swedespeed for guiding me to this site:

I got them from Lowe's during the 4th of July weekend sale when they had like 30% off all Garage Cabinets and 18-Month Financing option; they usually put the cabinets on sale a couple of times a year. They are exceptional build quality and was really shocked when they came in; very heavy gauge metal used and feels solid.

The Swedish garage? Impressive transformation and I'm sure your little one will appreciate the warmth.

Did you patch the cracks?

Wow, that place presented you with a boat load of challenges, but it appears you are taking each of them on and winning in the process. Looking forward to your continued progress.

Lowe's has an 8-piece set of the same Newage Pro cabinets on sale 20% off thru 10/30/15, which I just purchased & awaiting delivery (Free shipping). Looking forward to your install, subscribing to this thread. Great work!

Thanks, the temperature difference has been very noticeable already; I just have to do a little sealing around the garage door. I'll get new doors and openers next spring/summer. I filled the cracks with the Rustoluem Crack Filler.

It definitely wasn't easy and once I got passed the time consuming challenges it's been incredible to see the transformation; this was the last space in the house to be completed since we moved into the house 3yrs ago.

Thanks! My cabinets took around 8 weeks to get because they were custom built when ordered. They actually get delivered straight from their factory.

Weekend Update:

So I finished off all the painting (went with white for the ceiling and light gray for the walls), installed the LED 4000k Recessed Lights, hung the Volvo wheel as the hose reel, installed all the hideaway doors (water shutoff, sewer clean out and tube drain for the bath upstairs). Moving on to the trim work and hanging the cabinets next, as well as install the 4ft and 8ft fluorescent light fixtures and a few outlets.

Where did you get that wheel mounting bracket??

I asked my local dealer when we were purchasing my wife's XC60 and on the day we picked it up they gave me one from the display case since they had an extra one. The bracket actually was meant for a track system so I cut the welded on tabs with a grinder. I drilled out four 3/8" holes and used a 3/8" x 2-1/2" lag screws into packed studs behind the wall; I thought ahead before I sheetrocked.

Finished the Window Trim tonight:

I had to build the trim off the wall about 7/16" because of how the windows are set; I used 1x2 pine to frame out the window so I can get blinds inside the framing (I had to do this for every single window in my house).

I nailed a 7/16"x2" pine to the back of the 2-1/2" colonial trim:

Cabinets are up! Overall I am very happy with the build of the NewAge cabinets and they feel very solid! I do however recommend picking up some larger lag screws and fender washers to mount the cabinets. They provide you with 1/4" lag screws and just regular sized washers, I instead went with 3/8" lag screws with 3/8" 1-1/2" Fender Washers to give them some extra security; was it overkill? possibly, haha!

That's looking great. This has been a fun build to watch. A couple questions:
1. Are you nailing the trim by hand? ... Just saw the compressor / gun.
2. Tell me you will paint the fridge black to go w the cabinets.

Thanks for sharing your transformation.

I'm using a compressor with a nail gun. No way would I nail trim by hand lol! I'm planning either painting the fridge or wrapping it in vinyl to match the cabinets.

Finished with securing the cabinets to the walls tonight; just need to get some wood screws to secure the bamboo countertop to the base cabinets. I was also able to get park both cars inside for their first time since June overnight.

Thanks! Some of my family/friends think I'm a little crazy for making the garage as nice as I did, but in the end I'm completely happy with my decisions to pay that much attention to detail :D
