I bought 4 of the 4ft led lights yesterday to try. I counted over 30 4 ft standard fixtures up in total.
I installed 2 in my machine shop in place of the fluorescent fixtures. When I turned them on I couldn't believe the light brightness! They are so much brighter that it appears that the old lights throw shadows. Very impressed with the output.
I figured it will cost 1200 dollars to replace all the fixtures but maybe I'll only need half as many..Don't know but will be buying some more and putting them up.i believe they are 36 bucks each. Defiantly recommend! Jim

I've heard good things about them. Costco has their version on sale right now for $24.99. I'm going to pick up a couple tonight to try in my basement workshop area.

Any pictures of the lighted area? These might be good alternative to my old t12 units I've wanted to replace

How do these work in cold areas? I have florescent 4' lights in my garage now and if I don't leave them on and warm in the winter it takes forever for them to put out any significant light. I even tried the "cold weather" bulbs but was not impressed. I don't run my heat all the time so having better lighting would keep me in the garage longer in the winter. I am looking to replace my lighting and also add.

Thanks!

LED's are not affected by temperature swings. We replaced all the lights in our warehouse with LED fixtures. Big difference and big savings.

I've got 4 of the Sam's club leds in my shop and they are super bright. No noise and a cold shop has no effect like fluorescent fixtures. I'll be replacing all my old fixtures with led.

I believe they come on bright in the cold. My shop is always heated.
Here is pic..
It appears light is directed down and doesn't reflect off walls like the old bulbs. That's why I see shadows..
The two right side lights and two center lights are the led. Pic kinda *****.The 3 lights overhead of where I'm standing are off so some darkness at camera end.

question for you guys that have them already.... I have a 6x10 or 12 utility/storage room in my garage that holds a fridge, safe, and shelving. It currently has a 4ft Flourescent T12 fixture that I want to replace Would one of these LEDs be overkill? Would I be just as well off converting to a standard light fixture and using CFL or LED bulbs?

Is the light from these LED fixtures more directional? Meaning if I replace in the same locations as my Florescent fixtures will I end up with dark spots due to directional lighting and need to put up more fixtures to eliminate this?

From the looks of my pics they do seem focused down.it doesn't flood out like old bulbs but they are a lot brighter.they will be fine in machine shop but wondering about the garage.I do body and paint work and kinda wondering about shadows when painting.

My BIL bought some LED fixtures for his garage from Sam's Club and he bragged about them quite a bit. When I finally saw them, they were not particularly bright, they were exceptionally cheaply built (all plastic) and they were molded in a way that was supposed to make them look like fluorescent fixtures--which baffled me. Why would you go to the effort of making your LED fixture look like a fluorescent fixture? That would be like Cadillac designing a new car to look like a slower, cheaper Chevrolet.

At any rate, they were very inexpensive and were slightly brighter than his old fluorescents.

Does anyone have a link to the LED fixtures they're talking about?

I bought a couple nicer LED fixtures for our master bedroom closet. They were more expensive since the surrounds were nicer but the panels of LEDs were flat and wide and really light up the closet well. That's the type of fixture I'm waiting for to come down in price so I can put them in the garage.

????, you sure he got the Sam's Club LED shop lights? They are not plastic, but actually very nicely built extruded aluminum. I have 6 of them in my garage and they are awesome. They are way brighter than any fluorescent fixture the same size. No bugs, no cold starts, and it's effing lit up like the OR at your nearest hospital.

These appear to be a quality piece. The main body is extruded aluminum tube.the reflector is metal.mounting was dead simple.i didn't use the hang chains.I drilled a hole in the center of the frame and screwed it to joist. Didn't take but a couple minutes to install.thr body is stiff enough being extruded aluminum tube and it's really light so that's all I did!
There were no wires on inside so no worries about drilling into wires.

Yeah, but that's why I was looking for a link to the ones the other posters are excited about. They must be selling a different product than the one that my BIL got a few months ago.

I looked for a picture of what he bought but can't find it. I assume it's some cheap, discontinued product that Sam's Club buyers bought pallets of for next to nothing.

Does anyone have a link to the Sam's units? I may have a friend pick up a couple, but more specifics are better to avoid confusion.

The reviews pretty consistently say that the switches either come out of the package broken or break soon after. Even the positive reviews say this. Interesting.

These appear to be mostly metal but I still don't understand why the design has to mimic a fluorescent fixture. With the flexibility you have with LED elements, why tie yourself to the old design?

I picked up some of the lights from Sam's earlier this month. Much brighter than the 4 foot tubes. I was able to use the same chains so it was an easy swap.

My dad had asked about starting when cold. It was about 15 degrees one day, the lights went right to full brightness.

We put 5 of them in my brothers enclosed trailer and you could do surgery in that thing now.

Ok, same as discussed previously in this thread but post #31 may have a good point about lumens, assuming the ratings are accurate.

Woops, sure enough, mine is the same as in post #31. I guess if the Sam's club lights are rated with a higher lumens & cheaper, that would be the better way to go. However, the Home Depot ones I have are definitely bright enough that it hurts the eyes to look at it. :shocking:

No direct experience with the Home Depot lights but they say 3200 lumens. The ones at Sam's are 4200 lumens.

The Sam's by me apparently has an updated version of these. The three I recently bought are rated at 4500 lumens. They are absurdly bright in my 2.5 car garage. I want to buy a couple more and really light up the place. :D

I went to sams yesterday to buy 15 of them for my shop because I'm tired of dealing with the fluorescents. The only one they had was the display which isn't for sale. After a brief talk with the manager she had a pallet of them shipped from another store that is a couple hours away just to get the lights I wanted. To top it off she sent me home with (AT NO COST)the display to test it in my shop . I have been totally pleased with the transaction so far and I haven't even got the lights home yet!!

Just got a text from the mother in law who lives 2 hrs away. said she went and bought 10 of these to but in her sewing garage . She said people were stopping her as she left the store telling her how great they were!
