Thought this could be a cool thread for people to show off their custom made tool storage ideas, and where others could find inspiration to make something that fits their needs.

I'll start off with a screwdriver holder I made from some scrap angle iron I had hanging around. Wiha screwdrivers all have the same sized round plastic nub that the screwdriver shank is pressed into, so with the exception of those that have a hex bolster instead of the round plastic part of the handle, I was able to use one drill bit for most of it. They sit pretty securely too. This is just for my phillips and torx collection (two most used types).

I've been tempted to redo it with some rectangular/square tubing so that they would be even more secure. Plus I need to find a better holder for my flat head screwdrivers rather than sitting in a drawer where they're hard to find and taking up space I could use for other things...

Based on making the screwdriver holder, I made a prybar holder, but I just went ahead and used tubing instead of angle this time (and it worked really well, which is why I'm tempted to do a screwdriver holder out of tubing). This consists of a 6x2, 4x2, and 2x2 rectangular and square steel tubing. All material was 11 gauge (only thickness I could get in all three sizes- didn't want to weld materials of different thickness to each other). If you have the money, aluminum would be way better (this steel one weighs over 20lbs without any tools it, kinda heavy!).

Then with some nice Milwaukee hole saws and Norseman drill bits, I drilled it out, deburred the holes, drilled some holes to mount it to the toolbox, and added two hooks I bent out of some flat steel pieces I had around. That way it is bolted into the toolbox and doesn't flop around, but the sheet metal of the box isn't supporting the weight, and instead the top corner of the box is.

This prybar holder worked out very well. Very happy with it!

Let's see what you've got!

Following. Probably going to make some sort of back piece for my kra that can slip under the stainless top and be snugged down when the top is tightened back down, somewhere to hang stuff on.

Some examples of what I did for my toolcart:

I made this for my 1/4 drive socketry

Hi, never posted on this site before but I've been a long time lurker.

Just finished these today, French cleat tool holder that run along the bottom of my pegboard behind the work bench.

Not sure if this counts, but it wasn't intended for tools. Pulled this out of the scrap pile at work yesterday. Some sort of industrial medical bench. All I know is it's like 300lbs, the drawers are strong as hell, and I can't afford a comparable snap on or Mac box. Now I can have a bench top and drawers big enough for my long pry bars, 36" pipe wrenches, bolt cutters, and basically anything else. It's like 4 or 5 ft long and the drawer sliders are solid.

I think that should qualify for a big "YOU ****".

Good find......add some casters and you're good to go!! If nothing else, you could make some separations for the drawers and use if for regular tool storage.

I made this tool holder for my Tormach CNC mill.

That's rad! I need to do something like that. I just a dumb plastic carosel for collets but my bigger stuff like drill chucks just sit on the bench.

Do you have model files that you could share?

Yea I actually have some large steel casters that I took off of some large industrial flat bed carts I took out of that same pile :p
Check out the drawer tracks. Pretty heavy duty.

18 Ga CRS, Plasma Cut, Powder Coated, I do them in a Chrome look, Red, Blue, Black, Yellow, pretty much any powder coat color to match tool boxes etc...
Generally get about $20 out of them. The Air Tool Rack includes a bottle of air tool oil that no one ever has near their air tools...

I got a couple simple ones that were handy.

I repurposed a Klein screwdriver wall mount display into this.

Bent up some sides and a back piece.

And done, just not the final organization

I also made this for my T handled units. I always meant to machine some feet for it so it wouldn't be tippsy, but it's been a couple of years and it's never fallen over. But still it'd look much better with some.

BTW, these were bussbar rems I hand laying around from some gear I stripped long ago.

And did this for my 1/4" bits.

I kept getting mud dauber nests in my seldom used air tools if I left them out, so I made a rack to hold them. Frees up a drawer too.

Prybar holder. I'd probably use box tubing if I had some, but this works. Going to put a strip of wood below it to keep the bars from banging into the box.

My prybars, impact extensions, and 2 ratchets. It's made from some pallet racking

And my current project is a custom Dayton job box for carpentry tools... Pics coming
25zjdc2.jpg

2qjydxk.jpg

Wood work is pine, plywood, and cedar. All sanded and finished with Thompsons or Boiled linseed. Have neo magnets glued into pine 1"x2" than can be placed anywhere and can be used with screws or nails to hold objects like canvas bags, organizer, ect. Trying to source a pelican lid organizer that's the proper size for small items. the possibility of more magnets... And finally a ply wood deck and storage for saw horses. We'll see I'm building as I go....

I had to do something to my file cabinet drawer that contained all of my clamps, so I came up with this solution.

All of the plywood is reclaimed and the 2x4 materials were off-cuts.

All the racks were made with hand tools only.

The tray was cut with a circular saw (don't have a table saw). The handle is also recycled.
