Here's a couple of pics of a Portaband rack and grinder rack I had in my previously flooded shop. It's been 5 years since I have had a building I could call a workshop once again, and it feels real good. I've been installing plywood on my shop walls and decided to drag out the old racks to get the correct placement for future use before wall painting. I like having these items ready to use near my welding table, so they are wall mounted temporarily to check for placement. These will receive a new coat of paint at a later date. Anyone got any other tool rack ideas along these lines you'd like to share?

RJ

Damn cool idea. I hate at how many cutoff discs i end up breaking by just throwing them on the table. Will make a couple forsure once it warms up a bit.

I saw a link recently, where a company sold a mount for a portaband/clone. Turned it into a stationary bandsaw.

I have 3 portabands, one of them is mounted in the tristand. It is very nice for cutting from a piece a couple of feet long to get short pieces from, and It can be used to cut corners off plates and such by using creative clamping.

Got a couple more hangers in the shop this morning, hooks for C clamps and welding helmets, a support for the argon bottle, and a rack for rigging items.

More hangers and such. Made a mini rack to hold my rigging shackles to free up a few hooks on the main rigging holder.

Someone asked for a closer shot of the grinder hanger. It is 1/16" sheet steel tig welded together. Dimension to suit your grinders. Each cup is modular to allow flexibility in mounting, whether as singles or in multiples.

Fancy does not necessarily make something work well. Sometimes I build gorilla tools for a job.... Strong, but ugly! Depends on what kind of bind I am in to use it.

brilliant, what size rod are you using to hand those chain binders from?

Just went back through and saw your post. The pegs are cut pieces of 3/8" rod, bent upwards on the end to keep items from sliding off. Another method to make a rack is to weld pieces of rod on the outside of a piece of steel angle, with the rods protruding past the narrow part of the V. The angle is then placed open V down and welded to drilled flat bar which spans the angle gap to provide mounting feet. This places the pegs in an upward 45 dergee angle when wall mounted. This works especially great for hanging garden tools such as rakes and shovels. End profile like this crude representation.

Not to side track the discussion, but does anyone make or has anyone made a tristand for the HF portable band saw?

I had accumulated a few more angle grinders over the last few years, so since I was in a constructive mood today, I worked on a few more grinder hangers. These pieces were cut out on the metal cutting band saw, and then my cute little Pexto 18” slip roller was used to produce the curved parts.

This batch is made in various depths to handle the different attachments that may be on the grinders such as a cup wire brush. A little out of practice tig welding finished up the latest five hangers. The Rotex turret punch made short work of punching the mounting holes. A bit of sail blue paint finished up the job other than mounting them on the wall next to their big brother.

I got the grinder racks mounted today. I moved the larger grinder into the corner as it does not get used as often. This is much nicer to use than a bunch of grinders piled up.

Just curious how you bent the end of the 3/8” rod. I know there are many ways to do it, just curious how you did it.

Thanks for your posts. Gave me some great ideas!

With 3/8” I just place it into a vise and smack it with a 3 lb hammer if I want a gentle radius. If I want a sharper bend, I use my shop built press brake attachment.

This is a link to it.

My squeeze clamp rack made using a 1x4 back board with short sections of 2x4 screwed to it. A piece of material 1/16” thicker than the clamp bar was used for block spacing to account for wood expansion/contraction.

Thank you dkmc, and Merry Christmas to you also. I am 66 and have had a workshop going since I was 12 years old. Hopefully I have learned a LITTLE bit about one by now.

You're not too far from me. I have a handful of brackets I've made to hang odd items. On of my favorites the the bracket for hanging my creeper. The creeper has a hand hold in the end of it. I welded a piece of 3" flat bar at a slightly upward angle to another piece of 3" flat bar with a couple holes to screw it to a stud. In the end of the horizontal piece of flat bar I welded a nut w/ a bolt threaded into it with a 3" 't' handle on it. I slide the creeper on the bracket then turn the 't' handle 90 degrees. Keeps me from knocking the creeper off the wall if I bump into it. If I had a clue about posting pics, then I would.
