Looks to me as though it says "Gorge [George?] Sharp Drowned June 14 1940, Got body (that d looks rather strange to me though) Jan 28 1941, not 14 days later as he says in the post... I found a registry that showed a number of naval related deaths that occurred throughout the war, but no Gorge [or George] Sharp... My guess is with a little searching you'll find a number of these names/dates in military registries (I saw a few more names by "Armstrong" to the top left of the photo)

The top part of the bottom drawer says that he "stacked dynamite Jan 25[-27]" by the looks of things too, as well as a "Plane crash carmel on Jan 5th, 1947" which I figured out could be the crash of a Nationwide Air Douglas DC-3 that happened in Carmel, New Jersey on that same date, though that doesn't match up with my military theory i don't think.

That is really cool. On my father in laws ranch is a place where the military trained during WWII just light stuff such as shooting and grenade throwing and there is a concrete bunker with a whole bunch of names and dates written on the walls and ceiling from 1938 to 1945. Every time I read over those names I wonder who didn't make it home from the war. Unfortunately there is a plaster type stuff over the concrete and it is peeling off.
