Looks to me as though it says "Gorge [George?] Sharp Drowned June 14 1940, Got body (that d looks rather strange to me though) Jan 28 1941, not 14 days later as he says in the post... I found a registry that showed a number of naval related deaths that occurred throughout the war, but no Gorge [or George] Sharp... My guess is with a little searching you'll find a number of these names/dates in military registries (I saw a few more names by "Armstrong" to the top left of the photo)
The top part of the bottom drawer says that he "stacked dynamite Jan 25[-27]" by the looks of things too, as well as a "Plane crash carmel on Jan 5th, 1947" which I figured out could be the crash of a Nationwide Air Douglas DC-3 that happened in Carmel, New Jersey on that same date, though that doesn't match up with my military theory i don't think.
