Well lots of threads on here about pegboard. I'm always amazed at how some people just f'n hate it seemingly more than they hated Donald or Hillary (not getting political, just a reference).

I'm not really interested in hanging everything on the wall but years ago in a previous shop I put all my wrenches on the wall and I loved it.

After 12 years in my current location I finally got my wrenches back on the wall and once again I love it.

Left is fractional, right is metric.

I also freed up the full width drawer in my 54" KRL as a result.

I got all my inspiration on product choice(s) from this thread:
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=305084
but for some reason I felt compelled the put The Wrench Wall in a separate thread.

I've got $100 into the Wall Control board and $33 into the Wallpeg hooks, so $133 total.

All input is welcome but keep in mind in my shop your opinions are worth less than my morning constitution which presently resides in my septic tank. If you don't like it, no one is saying you have to do this in your own shop. You are the king of your castle as I am of mine.

I've seen some nice shops with wall boards like that...I think it depends on what you work on. Bike shops and moto shops seem to gravitate towards a similar style. When you price it out vs the square inches in a KRL, you're doing pretty good ::)

My last house, I had a workbench in the basement to do inside type stuff. I pegboarded a lot of the more common tools I used on it. Works well for stuff you use a lot.

I have a couple places in my garage with pegboard, mostly hanging hammers, pry bars, levels / squares, and other odds & ends out of the way...

I do have a several magnetic bars on my workbench that hold sets of metric combo wrenches, screwdrivers, and adjustable wrenches. That way when I'm working on something I can just grab it right there instead of having to set something down and walk over to my toolbox...

I love the idea of pegboard but the implementation is always, shall we say, sub-optimal. The board and hooks at the Depot don't work with **** unless you install the plastic black retainers, which don't fit over all hook types. A good use for this thread would be identifying the very best "peg board" type products that don't end in endless frustration, i.e. pulling a tool off the wall and having the hook end up on the floor. I would really be interested in installing a hassle-free and well working solution in my garage.

I have some Masonite pegboard in the basement, it's stocked with basic tools for repairs and assembly around the house.

The lions share of my tools are in my shop, in their appropriate drawers in their boxes

I like it, that looks really clean.

Also noticed we have the same mixed set of giant proto ratchet wrenches. Did you get them on sale from northern when they were $15 ea too or was yours the $20 run. When I found those I'm only missing two of the sizes for that set.

Very nice, I have to say I'm a fan of pegboard. I don't have a lot on mine, but I like it for wrenches and hammers. I tried sockets on it before I got a bigger box but I didn't like it.

I too am amazed at the hate for pegboard on this site. I used a little bit over the workbench at my old house, and have some above the workbench in the basement at this house. I'm not a huge fan as it does make the space look more cluttered and tools will get dusty, but I think it can be very useful in certain applications.

We're moving to a new house hopefully in the next year, and I'm planning on utilizing more pegboard and possibly slatwall. Slatwall I can see being great for all that **** (like yard tools) that is hard to store otherwise, but like pegboard it isn't common around here.

Yep they were the $15 clearance. I've got six total, some seem really odd like 1 -9/16"

I LOVE my wall control. And I like what you did and that it works for you. But I would not put wrenches on mine. To me pegboard is great for items that don't fit well in drawers or need very deep drawers to make sense, like T handles on anything (waste space flat, need tall drawer to stand them up in line) gun shaped things (drills, nailers, etc) hammers, etc.

same with sockets & drivers in the other photos. I'm glad these setups work for you guys. I could deal with it if I was a guest in someone's shop but I wouldn't want to.

I like it myself, I know some places have to lock every tool though just depends where you work.

I've always had a pegboard area since I was in Junior High, but once I was working on cars my automotive tools went into a box. I still have a 4'x8' cabinet above my bench for woodworking tools. The problem I see now is that 1/8" pegboard is non-existent in Houston, and available hooks are junk. 1/4" board is overkill and the assortment of hooks isn't that great.

Looks nice. I like to put some things on peg board, and some in tool boxes. It depends on the use and location for me. You setup is an order of magnitude better than the second hand pegboard I am using. Just started putting it up in my dirty side. Hopefully I can get things as ordered as you have them.

Not really a fan of pegboard because it always seems so clumsily done, but really like your finished product. This setup also seems helpful for people that hate 'gaps' in their wrench racks for odd sizes

My only problem with this setup is my garage is a shared space with some of my woodworking projects so stuff is consistently covered in a fine dust so it's nice to have a box to store tools

What do you do with your sockets?

I apologize for hijacking your thread, but I have a related question. Has anyone every tried to affix a pegboard to closetmaid shelftrack? I have a standard rolling Homak toolbox under some shelftrack in my garage. I was looking for a place to hang a few things like this. Problem is I can't find anything that will "hook in" to the shelf track that will also allow me to screw into it.

I'm curious as to where in relationship to your work bench is this located and why the empty space between the 2 boards?

And just so you know, all you pegboarders have had your id's recorded!

I am all for making use of wall space if the area can be kept reasonably clean. I have a 10' X 12' tool room that I am clearing of file cabinet drawers and extra tool boxes so I can use three walls for shelving and tool racks. Due to the size of My shop, the most used tools will stay in a roller cabinet-chest to cut down on foot traffic. But I see no reason to be dragging less used tools around. Same with downstairs shop and tractor shed. The glow from rack of tools simply brightens My day.

Looks great and reminds me of my local Napa.

NAPA, Ace, Sears. All three also have pegboard with the sliding sections that result in 300% use of the wall space, and don't stick out very much.. Door tracks for a shed door should work for Us people who are :drool: and would like to copy the system.

Funny you mention Pegboard and Slatwall. I work for a company that produces thousands of square feet of this stuff everyday. We apply the different coatings and punch the holes and cut the slots in the material.

You can see vise handle foreground of second pic. That's bench.

Empty space is there because it's there. Left is fractional. Right is metric. Down is concrete. Up is lights.

No way I could budget that much wall space for wrenches. Every inch of it is covered in shelving, bolt bins or cabinets etc. The exception is hammers which I've found impractical to keep in drawers so I tack nails in the wall and hang them above the benches. I also hang a few adjustable wrenches and the skinny wrenches for removing arbor collars on angle grinders.

I'm digging it. I recently got some milwaukee boxes with metal pegboard and it is miles above the particle board stuff. Strong, magnetic, and you can easily make your own hangers utilizing cheapo nuts and bolts. I've also used slatwall before, and someday I want to try the french cleat system as well .

Generally speaking, I like pegboard and even starting using it at my last house. However, when neighbors started commenting about "all my tools", I decided it was time for more discreet storage.

Looks cool and if it works for you that's great. My experience with peg board has always been less than optimal. I could never get it laid out well enough to work for me.

My dad had an entire workshop of peg board so when I grew up. I always thought I would too but I just couldn't make it work.

I remember My first experience with pegboard back in the early 60'S.. I got an electric drill and bits for Christmas, and had a used piece of masonite.. After drilling all those holes, I made hooks out of nails. The pre-finished panels and secured hooks of today sure would have been appreciated, but I was a youngster who made do with what I had.

I like it, I am not a peg board fan but I like that system of having it out where its needed vs opening a drawer for every common wrench.

Have you ever used any of them? I can honestly say the 1-3/4" saved my *** on my skid steer for a certain maintenance item. But all the others have gone unused.....but they sure do look cool in the collection;)

What I don't like are the hooks that fit loose in the pegboard. It would bother me if every time I took down a wrench I had to be careful about guiding it over the hook so it didn't hang up on it.

Pegboard isn't limited to walls, I have a bunch of boltless metal shelving and rolling wire shelving and its easy to put pegboard on the back or sides.

I use plastic hooks from www.wallpegstore.com

They work great, and in the last 4 years of using them, i've never had one break or come out. I hate the flimsy metal hooks that come out, but love my pegboard with the plastic hooks.

Have never been a fan of pegboard, my present house came with one with painted tool outlines on it, that I promptly took down.

Must admit though that I am a sucker for wall tool boards where space permits.

I like the peg board pics. my dad had the wall over his bench peg boarded.

Any info on the rack holding the punches?
