2-post lift up and running

Hey Gents,

I lifted my Ram 1500 crew cab pickup tonight on a recently installed Atlas OH-10X 10,000lb extra-wide/extra-tall symmetrical 2-post lift, and it reminded me that I had wanted to post a few pictures and comments on the lift install. What an awesome tool!

I bought the lift from Greg Smith Equipment. In my opinion a well-made lift at a really good price point. They loaded it onto my trailer (picked up at their warehouse in Des Moines) and I unloaded at home with my Bobcat.

Used the Bobcat to stand up the posts. Actually the Bobcat provided the muscle power that allowed me to complete the entire installation solo. Once the posts were standing, it wasn't hard to shimmy them into place.

Floor is 5" 4000psi with rebar on an 18" grid. I didn't want to hit rebar when drilling the anchor holes, so relied on some pictures that I had taken before the floor was poured to mark in chalk where I thought the rebar was. It worked! I missed rebar on every hole. Or maybe just proof that sometimes it's better to be lucky than good...

Bobcat also was used to lift the crossbar into place, then a matter of finishing the anchoring and the rest of the mechanical assembly. Inexpensive Harbor Freight rotary hammer drill made quick work of drilling the 3/4" anchor holes. I drilled all the way through the slab on the advice of fellow GJ members, who have pointed out that this allows pounding the anchors through the slab and into the dirt if an anchor would need to be replaced or removed in the future.

Lastly added lift arms, pump/motor, and electrical to get it fully commissioned.

Which brings us to tonight's oil change on my pickup... so happy to finally be done with floor jacks, jack stands, and crawling around underneath vehicles on my back! Not long ago I had to replace all of the brake lines on a '99 GMC Sierra, that job would have been 100x easier with this thing.

The 2-stage arms are a bit longer than ideal for my daughter's small Nissan Rogue. Still liftable, though. No problems for the larger Infiniti SUV.

Congrats. Having a lift definitly beats crawling around on the ground. Nice looking garage/shop you have there. I wish I had that kind of room!!

Nice shop and lift!

Question - doesn't the rebar need to be elevated up off the vapor barrier for the pour?

Thanks! And yes, in hindsight I would definitely specify that the rebar be put on chairs. I'm honestly not sure if the contractor did anything during the pour to elevate it into the slab, or if that is even possible without chairs.

Man that is awesome. Wish I had a garage that large. What lights did you use in your garage?

Thanks! The wall/ceiling height is 14' and I used 4-bulb T5HO fixture strips from HD. Each fixture is rated for 20,000 lumens so it didn't take too many fixtures to really create a ton of light.

Dang. I think if I find out that he's married to a supermodel I'll still be mainly jealous of his garage...

Thanks Gents!

Since I was willing to pick this one up at a Greg Smith location, price was a pretty reasonable $2250 for this extra-wide and extra tall OH version purchased in February 2017. So they seem to have about $300 built in to the price "with free shipping".

Seeing these lift threads never gets old! GJers are kids on Christmas morning when they get their lifts. I know I was!

Enjoy your new lift!

Very nice lift. I must ask though, what's with the Christmas lights? Lol

LOL indeed! My teenage daughters have used the building for parties with friends in the past, so the Christmas lights were put up for their use, I guess that the 20,000 lumen T5 fixtures didn't provide the ambiance that they were going for. Now the lights are pretty much just night lights out there...

Looks great man! You will definitely enjoy not crawling around on cold hard floor any longer. I too have a 2-post for GSE (mine's a smaller 9KOH) and I really enjoy it.

One recommendation, do yourself a favor and go ahead and pickup a pair of these. On longer vehicles like your truck, they make it a LOT more stable.

Agreed. Makes working on SUV's and trucks nicer with peace of mind. I went with these as they have a smaller footprint.

Lift is looking great. Bet you're extremely happy with it.

So now that you've had the lift for awhile, how do you like it and how is it operating? Any issues?

Zero issues and I appreciate having it in my shop as much as I had expected. Had to replace the rear brake calipers on my wife's SUV last weekend, it was awesome to do that job at chest level, standing up, with a service cart in easy reach. Very content with the Atlas choice.

Yes, the Des Moines store was pretty small, both showroom and warehouse. They shipped my lift to Des Moines from a different warehouse. It only took a few days and was free.

NICE!!!!
I installed a lift last May, best decision I've made.

p.s.
Works great for sharpening the blades on my zero turn mower.

do you have a pic of how you lift your mower. I need to be able to do the same thing with my Rotary 9K two post?

I work on my zero turn with the two-post lift. With some extensions on the lifting pads, I can pick it up by its frame.

Very nice indeed! I've been thinking about the same model but was curious what determines when a 2 stage vs 3 stage arm is needed? Are there any vehicles that you have been unable to lift with the two stage?

My 2-stage arms are right at the borderline (but do work) for my daughter's Nissan Rogue, which has a pretty short wheelbase. I think that anything much smaller than the Rogue would probably need the extra adjustment range of a set of 3-stage arms.
