OK,
First off, thanks for all the tips and advice in my other thread:
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=358489

It's official, the build has started. Permits are approved and in hand, the framers for the foundation will be here on Thursday to form up the foundation and slab with the pour starting Friday morning.

I am getting a 24x48 garage with 10' walls and trussed roof giving me about 12x48x6.5 attic space.

The interior will be left unfinished for now and I will finish it up as I get the time and money.

Due to my schedule I have a GC coordinating the build for me. I would love to build it myself, but the wife said I had too much going on as it is and adding another project to the mix is NOT going to happen.

In addition to my garage, the wife is getting a 16x36 covered patio added to the house. Our future plans include enclosing the space and making a 3-season (though here in the midsouth it will be more like year round) porch.

In order to prep for the builds we have removed a wooden deck (that was built directly on the ground :( ), removed the old 10x12 metal roof that was the covered patio. I had to move a bunch of my "stuff" (trailers, 3-pt equipment, bricks, etc.) out of the way of the garage build.

I'll try to get some "before" pics and add them shortly.

OK, had some progress today. Tree guy was out and cut down the oak tree that was in the way and ground out the stump. I used my kubota to collect most of the wood chips and dirt (gave some to the chickens to peck through the rest was dumped into the garden between rows).
Lumber and rebar was delivered today so that the foundation framing can take place tomorrow with the concrete pour on Friday.

You can see where the old wooden deck was next to the concrete porch. And how when they put the posts in for the porch they did not use any concrete.

The wife's porch will go from the house wall with window out to the end of the far wall, making it 16x35 (approx) and will be covered.

pictures of where the garage is going I'll have to get in the morning. The sun set too fast tonight :(

Lumber for the slab and a shot of the building site. 3 stakes on the left is the corner one stake on the right is the opposite side. Not official markers just something to help the wife and I visualize where the father will be. 0831cd34868f0db857d29f70f3b9ed32.jpg5f6da771fc11222c7c260512e8d939c2.jpg

Well, the contractor said yesterday there was a delay in getting the crew out for framing :( May not be until early next week before the pad is poured.
Guess that's life in construction. I should find out today a more definite schedule.

On the plus side, I thought the surveyor was done, but yesterday they came back and actually put stakes down the property line on both sides and set a missing corner pin. Turns out I have about 3 more feet of property in that corner than was thought. But now we have nice lines that show exactly where our property line is.

Seems this project has stalled out :(

Getting information from my GC about the status is like pulling teeth. When he has a day of work scheduled for the framing of the foundation, he knows I agreed to pull the chain link fence down (his crew will pull the posts) as a time saver on the labor part. But after 2 times of "we'll be out on 'x' day" and me pulling the fence down, only to find out that night work was "delayed" and I have to put the fence back up. We have 2 dogs and once the garage is done the fence will be attached to the garage but during construction we'll have the dogs ******* when outside.
Most of my inquires are met with "I'm waiting to get information from so and so sub", only to not hear anything until I call back a day or 2 later.

So far the only thing that has happened on time is getting a tree cut down and stump ground and the building permits pulled.

*sigh* and there's rain forecast for the rest of the week so I'm guessing nothing will get done this week. I figure I'll know more tomorrow when I call begging for information. You'd think in this day and age a simple text, email, tweet, FB message would help keep everyone updated (guess it only applies to the latest fashion, reality show, etc.)

So far, the only things that have happened (all due to "weather"). Got a load of sand delivered and paid for the dumpster, which will be delivered on Monday. GC said "weather looks good for Monday, we'll build form and pour on Tuesday"
Now the forecast calls for thunderstorms on Monday! Seems like we are just not getting a break on getting these projects going.
Tuesday through the following Tuesday is "supposed" to be nice, so we'll see what happens between now and then.

Form for the porch is done.
Form for the garage, almost done. Still adding the forms for the stem wall, but that will be finished in the morning along with the form for the transition from old driveway to new for the garage.

And of course, my son wasted no time in playing in the left over fill dirt

Current plans are to start framing Friday, the dodge rain drops next week to finish up.

Foundation was completed today, yeah!

32 yards, exactly, in the porch and garage foundation, another 6 yards for the driveway extension and path between the garage and porch.

Nice to see something done for the money that has been spend.

Did the down payment for the electrical work as well. They'll be out on Friday or Monday to trench and start laying the wire for the service to the garage.

Framing is supposed to start Monday, but rain is forecast for most of next week so we'll see what happens (rain, rain, go away!!)

Been just over a week. Framing is done, sheathing is done, siding and windows are starting to go up. Roofing materials were delivered yesterday and are scheduled to be installed tomorrow. I also met with the electrician today to go over the placment of all the outlets, lights and switches.

Work is almost complete on the porch as well.

Well, the builds are "complete" in the sense that we have sign off from the county. Still wrapping up the painting on the exterior.
I'm getting some quotes for insulating my garage. I was going to wait, but I figure it may be best to get it done while there is still not much in the way.
