Hello all I use to be on here quite a bit years back and have learned a ton from this forum. Anyways I have the basic otc balljoint press set and I broke my c clamp. The threads got bound up trying to push out a stubborn joint, and I can't for the life of me find warranty info anywhere???

OTC is fairly picky when it comes to trying to warranty due to abuse. This is what happens when you don't ever lubricate the threads. I think you're going to be wasting you time personally.

I know it doesn't help in regards to your OTC c clamp, but I've had good luck with a large ball joint press kit purchased new off eBay. Paid less than $100. Not one issue with anything after removing and installing lots of ball joints.

Do you not use heat on the joint ? I never used an impact on mine.

Not OP but I'll max out a 1/2 impact before I pull out the torch for time's sake.

If I do use the torch, a bunch of pressure is already applied and I wait for the gunshot sound.

Wow must have been a real stubborn joint. I have cranked on mine so hard before that I stripped out the teeth in my 18" 1/2" drive SO ratchet. Please let us know how it turns out.

Edit: the only time I have ever used hand tools on the press was when the impact gun stopped turning.

Yeah, OTC cries about warranty big time. Our indy tool dealer has gotten a few things replaced for me, but "that's a wear item" or "incorrect use" are common lines from the boys at OTC.

The BIG ***** with those presses are that some were not marked OTC. I bought mine through an authorized OTC vender, then OTC bitched and said "tough luck" because it didn't say OTC on it. No ****, YOU didn't stamp it.

I bought an Astro or and ATD to replace it, it works just as well. FWIW, I bowed my c-frame.

also penetrating fluid on the joint. To that add some heat and hitting the joint itself... and it's bound to come apart It's all about the combination of different forces...

Our set is an older ATD. No complaints, but I don't use impacts on it either.

OP Best of luck with your warranty.

You can buy replacement parts for most OTC pullers/presses.

I think it is next to impossible to warranty tools from companies like OTC, Ken-Tool and the like unless the tool breaks in the first week.

By the time it is broken, you have lost you receipt and the tool shows use or wear.

The warranty conditions are printed in the Mechanical Parts Catalog, which is on the OTC website.

Warranty is good to the original purchaser only, and does not cover worn out tools.

There is a link to register your purchase (at time of sale) so a receipt isn't required. You're sol if you don't have a receipt and didn't register the tool when you bought it (from an authorized dealer, not a flea market or c'list).

They also reserve the exclusive right to determine if the tool is worn out or abused.

It's not Sears, but then again, they're not circling the drain like Sears, either.

It's a pretty straightforward explanation on what's covered.

Chris is like Austin Powers: An International Man of Mystery. No telling where that dude will show up. His passport is damn near out of pages upon which to stamp visas.

Does anyone make a steel ball joint press? I've bent the aluminum ones before, so it doesn't surprise me the threads could tear out of one.

Snap On does. Their BJP1 ball joint tool set is all steel and is one of those things they just do better than everyone else. Of course, you'll pay for it. But you probably won't have to warranty it.

I broke a puller leg, sent a pic to someone in their tech department, had a new one about a week later. Only experience I have had so far with OTC, but it was great.

If it were OURS you could send us a PM and even on a weekend track-side at Le Mans I'm browsing these forums and will get a replacement started :p

What is the (secret) warranty period on your ball joint press/parts?
Astro tools website says one year; http://www.astrotools.com/warranty

Astro Pneumatic Tool Co. warrants our products to the original user against defective material or workmanship for a period of 1 year from the date of first use. Astro reserves the right to determine whether the product failed because of defective material, workmanship, or other causes, and to charge back for missing parts. Astro Pneumatic Tool Co., at its discretion, will repair products covered under this warranty free of charge. The original user is to return the product (with the exceptions listed below) with the distributor’s name, address, adequate proof of date of purchase or a copy of warranty card, and a short note explaining the problem. Failures caused by accident, alteration, or misuse are not covered by this warranty.

Ball Joint C-Frame: Please fax or email proof of purchase & note 2-digit code on side of clamp. If there is no code, item is either out of warranty or not an Astro product.

Alex.
