i was on sears' web site this morning and saw they now have a 1/2 inch cordless impact for the 19.2 c3 series. sweet!!! they must have just put it up because it wasn't there last week and when you click on the icon you get some sort of web site error. also it says it's out of stock for delivery. i emailed customer service asking when it would be in stock. price is $99.99

the "quick view" option does work. here are the specs:

speed: 3000rpm
impacts: 3000ipm
torque: 200ftlbs
weight: 4.5lbs

it may not keep up with a dewalt or a milwaukee but at a respectable 200ftlbs it should avoid embarrassment.:bounce:

received from sears customer service.

"Dear Tom,

Thank you for contacting Sears.com.

>
>Thank you for contacting us about the impact for the c3 system. I apologize that the item is out of stock at the moment. We are unable to see when the item will be back in stock. It usually is about 2-3 weeks. When you click on the item there is a "Email me when available" link, if you click that link you will be notified when the item comes in. Let us know if you have any other questions. Have a nice day."

i also called the store in my area hoping they had them and that the web site wasn't updated yet. they guy on the phone said that according to his computer the eta for that store was october 30. kind of a long wait but i've already been waiting 2 years what's another 3 months. maybe it'll be avalible online sooner.

excellant! For 89 bucks you can't beat it. I have the 1/4" impact and 3/8 drill combo already and love the impact, even if the drill is blah, its still does the job. I really wish it had 300ft lbs like the 20v and the dewalt, but its about 200 bucks cheaper for me since I already have the batterys so..

I'm with fordracing200. I've got the 1/4" impact and the drill. I could use a little more torque with the impact for certain jobs I do at work. I'm not ready to spend nearly $1000 on a snap on impact and drill, so hopefully this Craftsman 1/2" will fit the bill. I'd love to hear a review from someone.

i've been happy with my c3 set. it's no dewalt. but it's about 1/4 the price of a dewalt. i bought the 5 piece combo set 11445 i think for $189.00. sold the drill on craigs list and bought 11581 for $50. i've been happy with the set. so far everything i've used is built very well. the drill has plenty of power. the recip saw has plenty of power. the trim saw will cut thru 2x4's, not sure how many before the battery dies. the 1/4 impact driver, dependint on what youre doing, has plenty of power. it will drive screws better than the drill. i only use the set once a month or so for, in my opinion, really heavy jobs. someone elses idea of a heavy job may differ. the problem is after a few weeks the batteries loose charge. once they loose charge and sit they slowly turn to **** over time. mine are almost shot after 2 years of monthly use. if you use them every day i'm sure they would last longer. i'll be upgrading to the lithium bateries soon. my advice, if you buy a set get the lithium batteries. i've heard nothing but good things about them. they're supposed to have a longer shelf life so in theory if you use them monthly like me they'll be ready to go.

No doubt. I'd like to see Craftsman come out with a 3/8" impact with about 125 ft.lbs. That would make me a happy camper.

Overall, I'm really pleased with the Craftsman set I have. I paid $125.00 plus the $20 or $25 for the extended warranty. That was over two and a half years ago. I didn't expect them to last this long and now I need to buy a few new batteries. No where near the quality of power of the Snap ons, but still a really good value.

I paid 99.99 for my impact and drill, I'm hoping the snap on 3/8 anvil for there ct4850 fits the new cman, then it'd be a nice 200ft lb 3/8 gun

it's funny you should mention that....

1,500 inch lbs works out to about 125ft lbs. it just became "avalible for delivery" this morning but all the stores in my area say "avalable in 9-11 days". when my 900inch lb unit craps out i'll be buying one of these. i really hope with these new additions, more powerfull units and lithium batteries that craftsman will be better suited to compete with the more expensive brands. if they sell more products they'll develop new and better products. hopefully one day we'll see an angle grinder like ryobi and dewalt aready have.

Glad to see some excitement about these new C3 Products. Here are some more details though:

In Craftsman Club the items are setup as "preorder" so for August the items won't be available. Also, the items won't really arrive until later in September due to some shipment issues. However, once preorder is working (should be up in a few days), those that reserve the items first will get the first shipments as they arrive.

The Impact driver is actually a very nice improvement over the old model as well, with 66% more torque and the new C3 "look" - which includes a battery level indicator built into the handle to work with the compact lithium-ion battery.

how does it do for 200ft lbs? is it close to the dewalt or? What other C3 tools are coming out, or is this it?

More tools are planned for holiday 2009 and there are more targeted for early 2010. The C3 lineup is the growth area in power tools for Craftsman so there is a desire to have plenty of tools for customers to expand to in the future. For example a C3 chain saw was recently introduced as well.

craftsman is $99.99 and has 200 ft lbs or torque. no battery or charger.
northern tool's house brand is $99.99 and has 210 ft lbs of torque. it's also a 24 volt model.
dewalt 18 volt cordless impact is $299 with 300ftlbs of torque
ingersol rand is $219 with no battery or charger and has 360ft lbs of torque
milwaukee is $379 and has 450 ft lbs of torque
the chicago pneumatic is $389 and has 425 ft lbs of torque

i know i can get a milwaukee or chicago pneumatic for a few hundred more that have more than twice the torque but i've already made an investment in craftsman tools. i don't want to have to carry a bunch of different batteries and chargers with me. a professional may need more torque but for my ocasional use 200ftlbs should be plenty.

where is this c3 chainsaw? that's another item i've been waiting for. i checked the web site and didn't see it. i want to get one for my 4 wheeler.

Exactly, the idea of the add-on tool is that it is meant for people that are invested in the C3 platform. If you aren't, that tool is also being introduced as a kit (with 2 batteries/charger/carry bag) for $169.99 reg price, lower on sale. The idea then becomes that you can start off your platform with that tool, and build around it with add-ons. The whole intention is to reduce redundant purchases and simplify your power tool collection as much as possible. With the ability to expand to Lithium-Ion, it's even more practical.

Also, be weary of house brands. Though people seem to think that Craftsman power tools are "lower quality," all Craftsman power tools have to pass our in-house engineering lab standards and those standards have intentionally been beefed up to prop up the Craftsman name. A lot of the perception comes from comparing regular Craftsman tools to Makita/Milwaukee/Bosch/etc., which is a completely different customer and price range. Additionally, standards for measuring torque in tools are a bit more conservative than some in the industry, so a house brand at 210 ft-lbs might be the same or less than Craftsman at 200.

As for the chainsaw, I can't speak as to why it isn't on sears.com because that is a part of the lawn & garden team. However, it is featured in Craftsman Club for August at $129.99 reg, $103.99 on sale for the kit.

I agree. I love the fact that I can go get a flourecent light for 16.99 to add to my kit anytime I want....or catch an extra battery on sale for 25 bucks. I do have another question however, why do the bulbs pop so easy in the 19.2 work light? Do they plan to come out with a shock proof one? a 3 dollar bulb for a 15 dollar light gets old fast....

We have been bouncing the idea around about bringing in an LED replacement bulb for that light that would essentially last forever, but LEDs are still so expensive and it might be difficult to move someone from a $3 bulb to a $16 bulb (especially when the light is $12), even if you have to buy many less replacements. If LED costs come down in the near term, that might be the best solution.

As for the life cycle of the current bulb, we have been looking on how to improve it (and some changes in the light itself have been made to extend the life), but it seems that those tiny bulbs don't play too well with the battery. I would recommend the Flourescent lamp instead. The light is significantly brighter, the bulb lasts much longer and the battery life is essentially the same. That was my dad's first add-on for his platform and it has replaced every other flashlight/worklight/etc. he was using.

Any word on the preorder? I am definitively interested in one.

Also any idea why the impact wrench shows up on sears.com but not craftsman.com?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned sears website, and how much we all like it....... :(

Seriously, chevy4lyf, can you tell us if there are any upgrades/improvements in the works for the Sears website? I for one have stopped using or looking at sears.com much any more because it was so frustrating to navigate and hard to get meaningful search results. I know many other folks around here have similar complaints.

Thanks.

I have the Great Neck/Goodyear for a week now and it kicks *** for the price. It's nowhere the power of a air pnuematic impact, but I've taken lug nuts off my Explorer, my friends F150 (we rotated tires), a 1997 BMW M3 (front brake job) and it has not once complain. A typical charge is good for at least two hours. Mr Nutcase, what do you base your comment on?

Ahhh!!!!!!!! Sears stupid web site again frustrates me to no end. When will they learn how to operate a business? I wanted to "pre-order" it like it says on their web site, but there is no button to do so.

Ergh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i could have bought a better impact for a little more money but I bought a 18v ryobi li-ion drill so i figured id get all the same stuff.

the ryobi is made by the same place as the craftsman tools, and i like it for the $, mine is the 1500in/lb version (roughtly 125 ft/lbs)and i have no issue popping lugs off of cars.

Just bought the Craftsman 1/2" impact last Friday Aug 28th, picked it up at the store after getting an unexpected mortage escrow refund in the mail. Didn't use it for a real job yet but tried it out on my 1966 F100. With a fresh battery it had no problem taking off and reinstalling the lug nuts of two wheels, it never ran down the battery. This uses the same battery as their other 19.2 volt tools so for me I always have plenty of batterys. Craftsman club price was $150 but that special is over. Came with two batteries, charger and nice carrying bag. It seems decent but it's not the Snap-On with 400 Ft/lb of torque. Plus these lugs were properly torqued on with torque wrench, not overtorqued by the bozo at Pep Boys with an air impact set on maximum. Those idiots torqued the lugs on my 2003 F150 Lightning so tight that I had to use my biggest breaker bar with hernia inducing force to get them off. Had a flat tire at my house, lucky it wasn't on the road because I would never have got them off with the regular lug wrench. Went back and broke them all loose and retorqued them properly with a torque wrench, they were all super tight. Will try to keep you all advised of it's performance and durability.
