Just wanted to post an update to an old thread on here about the Rustoleum Epoxyshield "Professional" Floor Coating.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=379

Mine has held up great over the last 3.5 years and i couldn't have been happier with it. I've had zero peeling and the only marks on it are from me doing stupid things like spilling gorilla glue on the floor and then trying to scrape it up. Even with stuff like that it has still held up great.

I HIGHLY recommend this product and I'll be using it again in the next couple weeks. I'm upgrading to a house with a 2-car garage. I'll miss my cozy little single car garage, but thank god I'll have some more space to play now.

For those of you guys that plan on using this stuff, make sure it is the SOLVENT based and not the more common water based version they sell at the big stores.

In the second picture of your original thread I noticed some minor cracks in the concrete running across just in front of the fan and a pretty good one more or less down the middle. The bigger one looks like you filled it but the smaller ones don't. Did you just apply the epoxy over these smaller cracks, and have you had any issues with them since? At what point do you recommend filling them?

That was actually my only regret. I figured the epoxy would fill the smaller hairline cracks and it didn't. If you can see a crack before applying the epoxy, you'll be able to see it afterwards. Fill in every crack you can see if it will bother you later.

I also have the Rusty Professional stuff and it is holding up extremely well. It's been down now since July '05 (4+ years) and still looks great. Very good choice IMHO. I went with solid gray and skipped the flakes - looks cleaner again IMHO. I also skipped the sand - the smooth surface has never been a slippage problem and I would have to imagine it is much easier to clean.

Nothing's indestructable, however, and I have put a few flaws in the floor over the years:
- Small chips (less than dime size) from dropping claw hammers from 8' high
- Slight discolorations from leaking brake fluid that wasn't noticed for 6 months
- Here's the weirdest thing - plastic Target store bags left the red logo imprint on my floor when they sat for a month or two. Must be bad@ss ink! I haven't tried to clean it off since that area was covered up anyway. I'm guessing it will come off with the right chemicals.

It did hold up to dropping the work platform from my scaffold from 6'. All that resulted were red paint scuff marks. I also roll my 5 ton floor jack around without any problems.

I will certainly use this stuff again when the time comes.
