My friend and partner Kevin Scott was kind enough to offer me a beautiful AS 58 vise in excellent condition, with new jaws.
I jumped at the opportunity.
Now need to get a proper stand under it.

This will be cut from 12" pipe.
Here is the pattern development for 22.5, 30 and 45 degree miters

Base tacked off on the inside
When cutting, if you back bevel a touch, there will very little grinding and it leaves some room for fill on the inside

More column fit up
Pipe always seems to bow when you rip it, so I used a piece of 10" as a drive wedge to close the space in the middle

Interesting the way the tapered column transitions from round to 3 sided

Setting up the column to scribe into the base
It is difficult to plumb a tapered section with a spirit level, it's a cinch with a line laser

Column fit to base
Laying out for column miter
Leaned it 15 degrees and cast a horizontal line on it, then leaned it the other way 15 degrees and cast the second line on it.
The laser sure helps with these odd shaped sections

Wanting to have a parts and tool tray, so I mocked one up out of Masonite to get a feel for size and shape.

I opted for a beveled edge for the tray, so laid out, cut and formed 3 conical sections

Then mounted a landing jack at the top of it, that will act on another 3" tube that will telescope in the 4" tube.

Wheel carriage completed
I purposely spaced the wheels close together, as it will be skid steered.

Cut a section of 12"pipe to mount a bearing tube in and mounted a socket and handwheel on a shaft to drive the landing jack

Lastly, a couple sleeves for drill motors and a hook for a porta bandsaw
Next up, tear down and prep for paint.
Good night
