Hello again ;) After 7 years in the old shop, for a number of reasons it was time to build a new one "The upcycle shop". At the time I built my first shop the location seemed the best as I was building motorcycles so needed lots of space, over the years I finished building bikes and just focused on my vintage RC car hobby. A couple of things bugged me about the old shop, The low roof + Light locations as a result and the dark floor ;) Moving forward to now and the new shop, 2 years ago we had our first child a Boy called Bailey :D He is just like me and loves being outside doing things so I decided the the old shop had to go so the area could be covered in fake grass and a cubby house and other play gear could be set up. Three years ago a good Neighbour moved as their kids had grown and moved so they needed to downside, Unfortunately we ended up with a nasty neighbour as a replacement :( So the new shop location ment cutting down some trees but would enable us to block them out as they are quite intrusive. Anyway I started the works to get the new shop done April 2 years ago :O This is because I started with a heap of concrete works around the house, I finally had the side path done and reduced the size of the deck and created a rear drive through the garage( It required me to back fill will 5 cubic meters of dirt. Then the trees came down and the new shop slab was poured :D I'll leave it there for a start but I am a fair way in to this build so will update quickly :)

Just to tidy up before moving forward, With the deck I reused the decking boards just turned upside down after removing what felt like a couple of thousand screws :O to create the picture frame step. I plan on replacing the current boards with eco deck (which is a composite decking ) and building a new veranda over the entire 30sqm of it :)

and the property layout :)

A: New vegie garden area formed by the side and rear boundaries plus the new shop.
B: New shop creating Privacy and blocking out our intrusive nasty neighbour
C: Smaller deck area.
D: New concrete drive area.
E: Old shop which will become a large fake grass area with play equipment for Bailey and boat parking.
F: Garage

So with the new shop and hence the name, It is actually 3 that have become 1 :D The major part was a 7m x 5m steel frame timber beam shed that I had to pull down in a day ( BY MYSELF ) because the property was getting demolished the next day and it would be gone :O Because I wanted the exposed timber beam look but also wanted some thermal insulation I need to find another old shed at least the same length as they don't supply hardwood beams in 7m lengths anymore. It took a couple of months but i finally found one which I had to take down too but this time I had help :) The 3 part is my current shop which I will also be using materials from to complete the Upcycle shop ;)

Looks like it'll be a very nice property when it's all done !!

I enjoy following along with builds that do not take place where it can get to -40C and TONS of insulation isn't needed.

Thank's, Yes I too am happy it doesn't get down to those temps nd that I would have to loose a 5th of my space for insulation :O We can get down to zero degrees celsius and up to 45 degrees celsius so all the walls wil get a 50mm layer of insulation ;)

Got the near side and rear tin on today, Still need to cut some tin to cover the a-frame at the rear plus fit the ridge cap and end trims. Very happy though. The near side will be painted the same grey colour as the beams and 100mmx100mm gal mesh attached so Wifey can hang the vertical garden :) It started to rain so I got the broom out and gave it a scrub, certainly made it look nice

Pulled the 12mm ply lining from the front wall of the old shop and the insulation, It's now ready for the outer skin to come off and the wall to come out :)

I went down to the recyclers and picked up these 2 sweet alloy doors for the shop, both a meter wide with hinges and lock, They had them for $350 but I ask nicely for a deal and got them for $100 cash :D

Spent today framing up the internal wall and finished off the front :) I have already removed the light fittings from the old shop and install them, Tomorrow I will complete the wiring for them so I can run them off temp power. I will be able to add the brace board to the front so I can then clear out the workshop area for sealing the floor 😬

Well today was a mile stone day with closing up the front of the shop ;) , I cut up the osb recycled from the front of the old shop (it's in great condition having been on there for 7 years :eek:hmy: ) and fitted it up. There has been this can of bristol green exterior paint on the shelf from the previous owner ( Over 10 years) so I figured now was a great time to use it up as a sealer, I really rolled it on heavy and used all 4L the board loved it and soaked it all up :)

I sealed the floor yesterday and as it dry's it's giving the floor the perfect lived on look with various colour spots from when the hardwood was stacked on it to the dog paw marks from running around on it the day after it was poured hahaha I did mop it 4 times prior to sealing to clean all the dust and dirt on it but I am really happy with it, Once the shop is finished it will all fall in to place :)

This is fantastic, I love the idea of building a shed using recycled material. I have to ask, has the new structure blocked out your neighbours as well as you'd hoped?
