Nice new lift. It doesn't look like you can go up too much with your door maybe 12" or so from what I can see in the picture. But how much usable vertical space will you gain in doing this since you have the limiting factor with the vaulted area that you created.

Also, just curious are you getting your door parts online? I had a tough time finding the garage door parts online that I needed.

If I gain 8-10 inches that will allow me to park the G8 underneath!

I had my local garage door guy order my parts.

Nice lift & toys, keep us updated with the progess.

Updates, Jeff at BendPak hooked me up with these nice aluminum approach ramps. New Liftmaster opener. And SharkFin antenna for my G8 for clearance for my lift.

Can you give details on how you did the ceiling?

Thanks

I love this idea and could see myself doing it if we never move. I'm almost 6' tall. How much room do you have under the car at full lift? What was the cost in redoing the ceiling? Thanks.

Hey Chris I'll be reading as much as I can on the topic, thanks for the info. I have a 10-0 ceiling, and would like to stack 2 fairly short sports cars. Everytime I get excited about the possibility of getting a lift, reality sets in that it can't fit 2 cars.. without some changes.. so I'll be studyin up on it. Let's see more on the door and tracks. Mine are hung in the usual spot, a couple feet or more down from the ceiling. So getting the door up higher would be required.

First off I had high rise track install for my garage door, it makes your garage door stay closer to the ceiling. Then I added a Liftmaster jack shaft opener.
I think that you can see them in some of the pics in this thread, if you need better pics let me know.

My GTO roof height is 54.9 and that leaves me about 59 underneath. However I think with a little more tweeking of my garage door I think that I can go up to the next notch so that would give me 4 more inches underneath.

Awesome. Jealous, next house I get will have a garage large and tall enough so it can have a lift so I can work on my lifted show truck and my show car. The truck will require a very tall ceiling for sure. The floor in your avatar is so neat looking, love the creative use of those tiles.

Thanks very much, definitely the high lift door track, the 3800 opener.. ..

Your garage space is awesome, the RaceDeck floor, BendPak lift, the cars, the theme throughout, very nice. And your vaulted ceiling makes maximum use of space there.

Especially like the floor and tiling design, RaceDeck I'm sure is really pleased to see what you did, that's really remarkable in so many ways!!

I'm getting ideas from yours.. see my semi vaulted ceiling here.. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2790003#post2790003

Thanks for all of the compliments! Jorgen of Racedeck said that my floor was one of the most unique floors of all of his floors.:)
Your ceiling is half way there. Can widen your vaulted ceiling?

Cool, thanks!

So, the link says free, so it was free?
And, was his instruction good enough for your local bldg dept for you to get a permit?

Thread revival!

What would be the consequences if one didn't get a permit for this, simply raised their roof like this, did sheetrock and called it a day? Ultimately I'd love to raise my entire 3rd garage roof, but that's going to be a $20k remodel vs I could do this myself and get my lift going now as well.

- 1st pic is a before and after I did using a Photoshop type app on my phone.
- 2nd and 3rd pic are from before I moved into the house. That wall between the 2 car garage was placed there by prior owners who made the 2 car portion into a living space, I've since converted it back to a garage but haven't removed that wall since the 2 car is heated :D
