What is your favorite hand cleaner?

If your answer is "a bar of soap" I would like to confess my jealousy. A friend of mine and I could work on the same greasy part, he grabs the soap and is clean as can be. I use 3 different hand cleaners, a stiff bristle brush till it hurts and my skin is still stained for about a week. what's the best stuff for those of us that seem to absorb the grease?

After trying different stuff I always just go back to Permatex Fast Orange.

Green worx think i bought from snappy it's dry with the consistency of brown sugar about a 1/2 teaspoon will clean your hands nice.:) The next best thing is to take dishwashing det and lather it up with no water and let dry on your hands before working, when your finished all you need is water.

Get one of the creme hand cleaners like Go Jo citrus, theres lots of good brands , Zep makes some real good ones too....

I have some cherry scented zep stuff I got at autozone that works pretty good. Right now the routine is the zep, fast orange, then a permatex w/ the nylon brush. the permatex one is the only without the pumice in it.

I'm really starting to like just using Dawn Dish soap - as the commercial says - "Dawn takes grease out of your way"

One trick for us with Pig Pen hands - take a handful of cleaner (I like GoJo) and rub it into your hands real good, then towel dry, before you start the dirty work. A good brand of hand lotion like Gold Bond works also. It fills the pores and helps reduce the deep penetration of that lovely grease.

The above works.

Back in the old days a few drops of Trop-Artic motor oil would work the same. Unfortunately the pre-treatment didn't always get done. Using a teaspoon full of Trop-Artic oil worked great as a hand cleaner. Then we just used bar soap.

Lemon Joy dish washing soap works the best for me. The citrus in it cuts the grease.

Also Citrus type hand cleaners work for me like Fast Orange as already mentioned.

I have and use "Lava Soap" I don't know if it is the best but for a dollar for a bar it gets my hands clean for this occasional wrencher.

I use that first. Then any remaining grease I use Gojo on. I try to stick with the Dawn because it doesn't tear up your hands.

I used Fast Orange for years and it's terrible compared to Gojo IMO. You really need to grind it into your skin for it to work and once it's a little wet with water it doesn't work for ****.

Cheap lotion from the dollar store, put it on first and rub it till dry. After the job use the same cheap lotion and a rag to clean hands. Then off to the sink for a regular hand washing with any soap.

My little secret: Use a "barrier cream" before you start any dirty job, stops the grease and oil from getting into your finger nails.

My company had a contract a few years ago refurbishing the ink pumps used on a particular manufacturers offset presses. We used a product called "Dye Gone" to clean up afterward. Absolutely the best hand cleaner I've ever used.
We lost the contract a while back, but I still have a bucket of Dye Gone.....should last me a few years.

A little secret about GOOP: I'm convinced it's identical or close to it as the formulations they sell for poison ivy treatment. There used to be a product called Tec-Nu that was $20/bottle. It's off the market now, and the latest stuff I saw at a drugstore in Utah was almost $30 for a tiny tube.
Meanwhile, whatever emulsifiers there are in GOOP seem to work great on the oils that cause an allergic reaction in poison ivy, so I always use it first.

+1 on the Fast Orange with Pumice. If it doesn't have pumice in it, no matter what it is (GOJO or others), it just won't get the grease out out of my dry-skinned hands.

The First original waterless hand cleaner "Vibra-Clean" was always my favorite. Anyone remember it?

Now Boraxo does the trick.

Something I learned in researching a fiberglass/ epoxy project recently is not to use anything with solvents to clean your hands. Even the wife's fingernail polish remover is mostly acetone, and in the past many hand cleaners were solvent based.

The reasoning is that the solvents dilute whatever you are trying to get off your hands and allow it to be absorbed through your skin into your body easier.

Here at work we use the green ZEP handcleaner with pumice, seems to work pretty well even after working on a VW diesel. I don't have any at home, I just use anti bacterial Palmolive and an old scrub pad/ sponge when my wife sees me. Otherwise I use the one she does the dishes with :lol_hitti - hey, I do rinse it clean though! I'd like to wear latex gloves more often but they make my hands sweat so much that it runs down my arms if I hold them up, besides that they don't go up to my shoulder and there always seems to be some grime that far up.

I'm going to shadow what "Bull" says... Before you start, use some lotion or Liquid Dishwashing soap and rub it into your hands.... works to close the pores..
I found this secret from a friend of mine who sells chemicals.... works like a glove.

I still prefer GOOP, I find it works as good as pumice cleaners, but without being so rough on hands. It's also a great as a waterless cleaner is your are in a situation where water is not available.

I use "The scrubber" its made local(Orlando) by local industries is has orange pumice in it and lanolin in it. I use to sell the stuff a long time ago and all I had to do was give a sample to a customer and I had a customer for life.

They all work great for me. I try to keep two kinds on hand all the time. I have one with pumice and one without. Depending on what I have on my hands, I'll grab one or the other. I buy any brand that is on sale and haven't been disappointed yet.

we used to use zep products but their pricing got out of hand! we started useing gojo supro max from napa. napa part# NCB 727204. it works just as good as the zep did. we also tried the cherry bomb from zep and i hated it, it smelled awesome but didn't work worth ****. at home when i have nothing else, some powdered laundry detergent and a little water work well.
