Well, I was asked to report back once it got installed. Bought it from Garage Equipment Supply. They were great throughout the whole process. Got mine installed a couple days ago. Paid an installer to deliver and install it. He got it all set up, leveled, etc. When we went to put it up for the first time, the hydraulic cylinders were chattering really badly and I started to get pretty upset. Called Danmar and they said that means the seal are very tight (which is a good thing I guess?) and that we need to put some of the Cat hydraulic fluid additive in and that would fix it and they'd FedEx 8 oz of it out to me. I was skeptical and didn't wanna wait till it got here so I got some of that fluid from a friend who had some leftover from his Rotary that was doing the same thing. Added about 8 oz of the stuff and stirred the reservoir around w/a clean pry bar. Went all the way up and down 3 times and the noise was GONE, just like that, all you hear is the motor going up and nothing when it comes down. I'm thrilled w/the lift so far, highly recommended. I hope the Cat fluid additive can help someone in the same boat!

Congrats.... How far from the wall is your lift? I just ordered the Bendpak version and will be installing it myself (with the help of some friends). How long did your installer take from start to finish? Did he run into any problems?

I have the same oil reservoir stored in the same place. I use a lift arm to raise it for draining.

Nice!

Not sure about the distance to the wall, can measure it and let you know. Installer said some lifts go in in a few hours and some take pretty much all day, depends on how smoothly it goes. I guess the install of mine wasn't so smooth, took about 7 hours or so. Not sure what hung him up, I was in and out of the garage doing other things.

Does yours have the hand pump? Was wondering how well it works...

I plan on posting pics throughout the whole process. From the time the truck gets here with it and every step of the install.

Sounds like you got a great deal!! How far are the posts from the front and side walls?
Yea, I'm really happy w/the whole thing. Post is 26" from the outside of the column to the wall and from the closed garage door to the middle of the column is about 13' 4". Hope that helps.

I didn't get the pump. I set the reservoir on a lift arm, raise it a couple of feet, and drain the oil into 5-gal containers.

Also how about updates from these BendPak owners? Would love to hear about them (maybe we have!):

Congratulation on the install. I just finished installing my Ammco 10k last night about 9:30 pm. It wasn't too bad to install but the tight *** that I am I didn't want to pay someone to install it. I have a very similar oil drain/catch from NAPA. Mike.

I still haven't bought my BP yet, I'm hoping to have it done by summer's end. I will definitely report on progress when it happens.

I'm loving it so far, the extra wide version I got is fantastic if you can fit it. I park my daily driver in the lift spot every day and still have no problem getting a snowblower between my car and the post!

I can take more pics, what specifically do you want?

i just had a HD-9STX installed this week. REMEMBER, if you are ordering your lift make sure that you specify that you want a 110v motor if that is in fact what you want (most BP's come with 220v standard). i was very specific with the dealer about the 110v requirement and the lift was delivered with the 220v package. my order did not have a note about the 110v (which i did not think was necessary since we had a LENGTHY, in person discussion when i ordered it). guess what? she does not remember the conversaion of two weeks ago and says you got what you ordered - it's right on the order papers :wtf:. so the story is that now i have a lift that i can't use untill BP sends another power assembly and the installers come back to switch it out. make sure that EVERYTHING is in writing on your order. FWIW, the installers were here 3.5 hours start to finish. for $500 i was not going to attempt this install. you should consider the same unless you like working with over 2,000 lbs. of metal parts.

I've had a BendPak XPR-10ACX since November. I'm not sure if it's the fluid the guys used but it is EXTREEEEEEEMLY slow. Especially lowering. I've never timed it but its around a full minute to lower a car from full height. My only other gripe is the lock height. The lowest lock is like 3.5' off the ground. Not very useful. I had to cut some 4x4 blocks as a supplemental low lock. This works but when lowering, I have to stop, walk over and pull the blocks then lower the rest of the way. Minor PITA. Made In China.

I just bought a second lift, Whip Industries WA10. Way faster drop speed, more useful low lock, Made in USA (Ft. Worth, TX).

Cost difference was pretty minimal. The guy I dealt with on the Whip only charged me $3-400 to deliver and install. I tipped him.

I'm much happier with the Whip product.

I ordered the 220v but I have a 100 amp subpanel in my garage. Thanks for the heads up though.

runonbeer,

Any ALI/ETL certified lift will decend slower than most as the cylinder orfice is regulated for your safety, the WHIP lift is not certified therefor the decend speed will be faster and non regulated. The majority of lift accidents are on the decend (lowering) and the slower the better. Just wait untill you accidently leave a toolbox or high jack stand under the lift and the quick lowering lift will have a car on the ground faster than you can get out of the way. On the BendPak/Dannmar Tested brands you will have time to recover and raise the lift back up if you forget to remove anything from under the lift. I find the price difference between BendPak and Whip a little fishy as well, you can purchase China Cylinders, Hardware, Machined parts, Power Units ect. and still claim American Made. We have looked at making Lifts in the states recently and even at a enormose volume the cylinder cost is still in the $2200.00 range. car.

Here is a sticker on my Whip:

It says "evaluated to ANSI/ALI ALCTV:2006 and ANSI/UL Standard 201.

The motor and pump are exactly the same as the one on my bendpak. Same mfgr. MTE, made in Mexico.

Are you implying that the Whip is not made in the U.S.?

I don't know if I'm the only one that thinks this, but the terms "certified" and "evaluated" are two completely different things. "Certified" means that it underwent testing and was approved by the board. The way that company is just saying "evaluated" pretty much just translates into "we tried to make our specifications as similar to ALI standards, but we just didn't quite make it to be certified." That in itself is a fishy little sticker. Wouldn't waste my money on something that may compromise my safety in the shop. Esp. if the price range isn't that much more for a BP or Dannmar lift, just hand over the extra $$ and go home alot happier (and safer).

I like 'em both. The BP is a little slow though. I've seen a lot of lifts in operation and it is by far the slowest one. Even my customers make notice of how slow it is.

The manual says to use ATF for the fluid. These guys put "Warren 303 Tractor oil" in it. Sometimes I feel like they filled it with peanut butter.
I think at the end of this summer I'm going to change it to ATF and see if I get an improvement in lowering speed.

For anyone reading this; you'll probably be happy with either lift, but I always prefer to buy American over Chinese whenever possible.

I bought the BP off of equiptool.com. The first question I asked was "is this one made in the US?" and the answer was "yes, it ships from our factory here in CA". First thing I noticed when it pulled up on the trailer was a big red and white "MADE IN CHINA" sticker. I've held a grudge against it ever since.

By the way, and this is probably just some erroneous omission, but the BendPak XPR-10ACX that I have is not on the ALI "certified" link posted above. And neither is my Whip. I could be crushed at any moment!!!

Well it could be, but also I would switch out that fluid to see if that could be an issue, and who knows...maybe you need to bleed the air out the lines. I'm just going off of basic scenario stuff, yours could very well be defective but as said, ALI standards make the lowering speed more controlled for safety. And in the end, as long as it still does it safely 45 secs-a minute is fine by me.

Another reason why I considered this lift.

Any pictures of the details will help. Arms, Post, Motors, etc. You can't find much detailed pictures of this lift anywhere.
Finally took some pics, hope they're helpful!

Thanks for the pics! How have the lift been treating you?

how much ceiling height is recommended for a 2 post?

Usually at least 12.5 feet. 13' to be safe with this lift. (other lift will vary)
