Well this is my first Thread I am starting to officially "show off" my build.

First and foremost I would like to really thank Scott, user XcYZ :bowdown:for giving me in inspiration to start my build. I wanted to do this for about 10 years but never really knew how to start but after seeing his garage it pushed me to chase this dream.

I had to open a can of worms in order to build, but with that all behind me:3gears: and am in the race so to speak.

The pictures will come at a fast pace for now. Lots of pictures by the way. Today my rough in passed with only one small issue that the inspector will look over during the final inspection. So the pictures will slow down but I will still post as it gets done. I was going to wait until it was all built and then post all the pictures but another member Teamchevy :thumbup:suggested I start one now. So here goes

I removed a 24X26 old garage that had a 7 foot ceiling  but I am building a 24X24 with a 9'6"ceiling

ok here they come,..............

so as you can see it was an eye sore of a garage but it did work to collect stuff and stuff and stuff. The walls were leaking and that plywood was a water shed. No kidding it would flow down the walls. The garage was on city property and so was the fence. I could not do any renovations to either. The city wanted it/them to fall down so it could be brought back to the property line

there she goes, This day was like therapy, The more I tore into it the better I felt. When it came down the neighbor looked over his fence:scared:

Pulled it down with my truck. Had one problem, the one wall where the garage doors were, I left the plywood on there and when I pulled it over the one wallwith the stucco twisted on itself. took a little more work, but it all came down

no problem Dave, I think I just needed the push to get the thread started.

wayne the garage is built and I am onto the inside. I am insulating today (-21C) I was going to do a start to finish thread, rather than a progress as it is built. It got too cold for vinyl siding so that will wait until spring. ok more pictures as requested,....

more pictures of the stem wall forming. The ol chap that did the forming was very very picky. He works by himself and at 73 yrs old, he spend 3 1/2 days bent over and never once did he complain. Very limber and flexible.

If anyone in the edmonton area wants PROFESSIONAL concrete work, the business is "RS Concrete Services" they are not cheap but the work is worth it. After the forms were removed, the stwem wall was perfect. It was level, plumb, straight and square. I measured corner to corner and it was out 1/16th of an inch,..... BEAUTIFUL WORK, thank you John (ol, chap)

forms for stemwall removed, rebar added, they will no use mesh in a pad 24" centers and 18mm bar. The 24" centers,.... oh they are EXACTLY 24" centers and centered in the stemwall:thumbup: I talked with the contractor about adding a little more depth and a few more pieces of rebar for the MaxJax hoist. He had no problems at all, he even upgraded to 3500 MPA from 2500 at no charge to me.

My good friend Brian, who has been my right hand man through the build, (yes just myself and Brian are building it) prefabbed the walls. Note there are no bolts sticking up from the stemwall. This is a very good system, more on that later

in goes the concrete. The PVC conduit is to run power to the house. I am running the service to the garage first, then to the house. I drilled under the old cement pad 7 hours by hand:spit: got r' done. Peter one of the owners, power trowelled the floor 8 times with about a 30 minute wait between each session. in those 30 minutes he was on his knees on special pads hand trowlling the edges. When all was said and done, he said to look it over in the next few days, and garanteed me not even a pin hole will be in the floor. He was right it is perfect, just like the stemwall. He is coming back in the spring to seal the floor. The pour took place Oct 15th I do believe and stayed above freezing for about a week.

the building of Thunder's Palace starts 10 years of planning see if it all works out,.....

placement of the window was a big decsion. Because it faces south and the winter days here are short (dark at 4:30 pm) the sun will shine in right accross the floor to allow alot of natural light during the day. The window is from "The restore" home for habitat, 48" high and 72" wide. triple pane argon filled All weather windows Triton 6500 series,..... price drum roll,...... $200 :willy_nil The window is worth $1500 and considering the 36X36 slider one for the garage package was $189 plus 5% GST tax (goods and servives tax) I think I made a really good decision.

Tha engineered beam above the overhead door was a PITA, it weighed in at about 300 lbs, NOT fun

Notice how we did the trusses, I learned that here. I saw pictures and it worked perfect for Brian and I. The trusses are 16" centers not 24" centers. I wanted it this way so each truss was over a 2X6 stud. Trusses are under the blue tarp if anyone was wondering

starting to look like a garage more and more

shingles that match the shed and house are on, soffits are on, less the ones on the door wall. The tyvek and house wrap on, the panel/mast and meter socket are in and the wires are all pulled in. The receptacles and gang boxes are in. Bought the insulation, R28 for the ceiling and R20 for the walls. Liftmaster 3800 installed as well as the 16X8 overhead door. Window is in, and the mandoor is in.

I LOVE THIS WINDOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok enough for now, its been a long day. I was up at at 'em early to do insulation. I did the raised floor in the rafters for storage of the hotwheels, I got the ceiling done, vapor barrier on the ceiling, and most of the walls insulated but no vapor barrier on them yet. This will be tomorrows job, no wait, it is 1:59 am right now so that is todays job. Enjoy my fellow GJ brothers, g-nite

well ceiling is insulated, walls are insulated all the vapor barrier is up except one wall. Have to move all the shi,... stuff over again to access it. God I hate doing that. the elctrical rough in passed on Friday so hense the insulation party. Nice when all the insulation goes up how quiet it is out there. Also noticed it getting a little warmer with just the 500 watt light. Ahhh maybe its just in my head but was out there at times with no gloves on the hands. -15c today

I was putting up the ceiling drywall in my Strathcona county garage. When we started it was -20 in the garage. With the vapor barrier on the ceiling and a little propane heater I got it to -1 by the end of the day. On Wedneday attic masters is going to blow in the attic insulation and on Thursday they are doing the walls.

Nothing like building a garage in the winter.

HBT, looking good! Let me get this straight; the old garage was on city property, so they wouldn't let you do anything to it, so you tore it down, pulled it back 2 feet off of city property (moved it back 2 feet from that sidewalk in the pics) then rebuilt. Correct?

you got it. The City had no problem with the garage it's just I couldn't do and renovations to the garage or the fence. Basically let it fall down so it could be built to new code:mad: Oh but they wanted to "exercise the right" to make me remove the eave of the garage if it got in their way:spit:"

the sidewalk is City property and the old pad that is left, the closest part to that side walk is the property line. Now my old garage because it had rear facing doors to the back alley, was built 10 feet from the property line. I wanted to build a 24X36 and the City liked the idea. The garge would be a side entry BUT, the Alberta Building Code is, anything over 592 square feet has to be a stamped engineered drawing and a letter of compliance. Now my garage pad was costing me $30,000. The stemwall has to go 4.9 feet down:headscrat . Soooooooo, the old pad was cut and maybe in the very near future, the pad will be a carport then a 3 walled carport then I'll just a garage door

Thanks Scott, your fault < but that is good Hope I can make it half as nice as yours and I would be very happy.

The insulation is up and the vapor barrier is up too. No ichies but my hat (touque) is a Snap On and it had pink fuzzies all over it :shocking: Oh yah, glad I waited until the real winter weather hit -30C last night. I bought a Mr. Heater propane heater 30,000-55,000 BTU, sure warms it it up real nice in there:bowdown:

Dave you seeded grass last week :spit: I seeded snow got a hell of a crop sproutin'

I have some ideas brewin in the ol' pumkin here are some pictures, some may even be from here.

Of course, Scott (XcYZ) has ALOT of influence in design well ok, I am copying it. But I am a Ford lover sothis is the theme.,....

I have 3 new Ford stools sorry no picture yet.

my Ford neon clock that has fireworks in the "100" background

the 2 thin blue strips for the 65 mustang GT350R (my dream car)

I have an old 50's Viking fridge I'll be painting and my son is doing a decal for it.

Blue Craftsman toolbox, blue rolling cart I call it MERV (mobile equipment repair vehicle and funny thing is a buddy of mine built it, his name,..... Merv), have the blue countertops already, blue hose reel, Ford production posters, diecasts, artwork

going to get drywall soon and continue on this "palace"

Thank you Wayne, lot of work though.

thanks Dave,

well, popped my back out Sunday

Saturday, added more blocking for cabinets, moved the attic access point. Just getting ready for the drywalled ceiling.

Dave, you inspired me to draw up my air line diagram  and while I was picking up the drywall, my daughter and I picked up the 1/2" copper elbows/ T's/ and 3/8" pipe ends. Still need my 1/2" ball valves for the drains.

Also ran my low voltage wire for the laser, for parking (for the hoist). I somehow forgot :headscrat to, so it will lay between the vapor barrier and the drywalled ceiling

I am also thinking of speakers / sound system and placement as well as the running of the wires. I think the wires will be running inside the overhead storage floor frame where the recess lights will be. It would be nice to have thin enough speakers to fit into the floor as well, 5 1/2" width.

I did the raised floor in the rafters for storage of the hotwheels,

Any photos of this? I'm assuming that you added taller blocking to the bottom chord of the trusses to keep a plywood floor from compressing the insulation?

I was thinking of doing something along these lines in my garage, which I'm currently insulating/drywalling.
