I just picked up a normal towel holder that goes under cabinets. It's plastic, white, and cheap. The towel's held in by some spring loaded arms. I think I got it from wally world.

I just used a piece of 2x6 about 8" long, drilled a hole the right size for an old broom handle, stuck a piece of old broom handle in the hole and glued it in(you could also slot the end of the dowel with a saw and then drive a wedge up into the end) set it on the bench with a roll of towels over the broom handle and you've got a prety much indestructible towel holder.

Go to BBB and get a stainless, vertical one with a weighted base. It's nice vs. a wall mount if you have to take it to your work area, and is heavy enough that you can tear off a piece with one hand. In my kart garage, I've got both - a wall mount under the can racks that hold all the cleaning stuff, and a vertical protable one on the workbench.

We also use one @ home that sits on top of the fridge (kitty likes to eat paper towel). My wife - who isn't super tall - set it part on the top / part on the door edge one day and when I opened the freezer door it pulled it off and smacked me on top of the head. Could I get hit by the soft, fluffy paper towel?? No....Get hit by the 5 lb. steel base.

I buy the box of towels and built this dispenser:

Ignore the hand cleaner dispenser on the front...it didn't like the Fast Orange hand cleaner and deformed. Bad idea.

OK, minor thread hijack, but how do you hang those cans of PB Blaster upside down?

Assuming you mean the roll kind not the box kind, here is what I did:

I took a 1 1/2" to 1" PVC reducer and mounted it to a beam clamp. I then put a 8" or so piece of 1" PVC on it. The beam clamp mounts to the upper lip of my tool box. Cheap and effective!

I don't have a pick of mine handy.... But... It is plastic and holds the roll vertically. It also has a hook on one end. Super handy. It normally hangs on my toolbox, but I'll move it to wherever I am working (over the bench, from the hood of a car, or from the undercarriage when I'm rolling around on my creeper).

Wait... found a pic online:

I got this one from Amazon, and I've been happy with it. It's sturdy, and it has a ratcheting resistance mechanism in it so that you can't unspool the roll when you give it a strong tug. It's actually very easy to tear one sheet off (or two, whatever you want) with one hand. And $12.99 isn't super cheap, but it won't break the bank either.

It can be mounted vertically or horizontally. Since this picture was taken, I've changed it to an angle, since some types of paper towels would uncoil downward when there was a breeze in the garage.

Same thing happens to mine - it's right by the garage door. When the guy in the garage behind me (back to back garages w/ chain link fence between them) opens his door, if there's any wind it will unroll an entire roll of towels. I may try a vertical mount to see if it helps. It's not spinning - just whipping it off the roll. I said whip it. Whip it good...

I never got around to getting a good one yet but I've been using one of those free harbor freight ratcheting wood clamps fir over a year now. I clamped it on a vertical piece of wood and slid the roll of paper towels onto it

We have one of these in our kitchen for paper towels. It works really good.

It's not a picture of the one I made but it is the background. It's nothing more than a couple pieces of 2x6 for the sides and some 1/2" plywood for the back and top shelf. Just a dowel rod as the bar. Plain and simple, made at home.
