first post, and im by no means a mechanic. i just picked up the top and bottom 44" tool boxes and a side locker from harbor freight to try to keep my basement workshop organized about 2 weeks ago. anyway, i spent a lot of time online and on youtube checking out what people had to say about the us general tool boxes before i bought them, and noticed that a very common complaint about the side lockers is the fact that the door wont stay closed without either locking it, or installing some type of magnetic latch to keep it closed. so just as a "thanks" for being able to get so much info on here, i figured id share a really cheap and simple trick i used to keep my door closed
harbor freight sells a 2 pack of magnets for $0.99. i believe its item number 97504. they are rectangular in size. it just so happens that the depth of these magnets is almost identical to the depth of the "folded" edge of the door on the locker.. (the ledge that the locking bars pass through on the top and bottom of the door, not the cabinet it closes onto) i bought 2 packs of those magnets, (4 magnets total), and placed two on top outside ledge of the door, and 2 on the bottom outside ledge of the door. when installed, the thin edge of the magnet is visible, and this is the edge that will contact the cabinet when you close the door, right next to the bars that slide up and down that lock the door closed. works perfectly.. keeps the door closed without having to lock it, and takes about 5 seconds to install.. maybe this will help cure someones anxiety.. hope this helps.
