Hi all,
Been looking for a quality set of these, and am not having any luck locally. I KNOW that Snap On and Mac make, or at least made, wrenches like this, but couldn't find anything on their websites. I found this set on ebay which is pretty much what I'm looking for, but I would like to know if anybody has any experience with this brand? I've never heard of it myself.

For $100, they should be decent quality, but I wouldn't be opposed to forking out the extra quid for the more expensive brands if these are sub par. However, my problem is finding a set. Anyone know of where you can get them? I can find offset ones of various degrees till the cows come home. Not interested in those. I like these long, straight wrenches for a variety of reasons.

Any info would be appreciated. Unfortunately I do not have access to a Snap On truck to talk to the guy about them.

If you have access to Gearwrench I think you would be happier with the long 0* with ratcheting and box ends. If you are going to buy the style you linked to I would suggest the SO from personal experience as a long wrench can do a lot of damage to a fastener if broached wrong or snap itself in half.

Thanks. I have Gear Wrenches already...pretty much just looking for plain 12 point box ends. As for the SO...can't find any...this is kind of the issue. I would buy them if I could find them.

You're having trouble finding them because Snap-On lists them under "High Performance/Spline" on their site instead of under the wrenches category where they should be. Sets are here

That said i'd second the recommendation for Gearwrench Gearbox wrenches. They're the same thing as what you're looking for except the other side is ratcheting. Snap-On also sells their own ratcheting/fixed ends as well in the above link. Obviously the Gearwrench versions are far cheaper. If the B1G1 package is still going you can get both Metric and Standard sets for ~$180.00. I find these versions immensely more handy in a real world setting.

Boom. Problem resolved. Funny, I couldn't find these by searching in the wrench section. Go figure.

Thanks a lot folks. 300 bucks is pricey, but IMO worth it. Nothing worse than wrecking fasteners, I live in rust country so it happens a lot.

i've got those genius wrenches, and they are fantastic. the big advantage to them over the long double box gearwrenches is their much 'thinner' around the head; even vs the non-ratcheting end, the genius wrenches are much more compact. the genius also have a good design in how the beam of the wrench meets the head. look at the pics of them - the beam is basically flush with one side of the head, while the other side of the head gives you some knuckle clearance. depending on what you're working on, that can make a nice difference.

Most European tool companies offer a non offset double ended ring style wrench, DIN 837. The wrenches aren't exactly the same but they would have a similar function.

It's a fairly standard European style wrench so pretty much every European manufacturer will offer them.

If you want the USA Snap-On style wrench, there's Snap-On, there's the Genius wrenches you linked to. I believe MAC may offers them as model BHFM or SBHFM for the sets, I'm not certain about the MAC wrenches since the MAC catalog doesn't have much of a description.

Anyways, lots of good information, thank you all. As for the gear wrenches, they look like a nice set, but I would rather have the two sizes in one wrench, personally. I was disappointed to see the SO set doesn't have the 13x15...those are two of the most common sizes on my personal vehicles (a '96 Chevy K2500, and a '94 GMC K2500). Probably building the set myself would make more sense, since you don't really save all that much in buying the entire set over buying the individual wrenches.

With anything Gearwrench these days expect Chinese though they do still seem to make plenty in Taiwan.

Snap-On Metric set of the same wrenches costs $600+ tax.

Gearwrench Metric and Standard set $170.00.

I like USA tools as much as anyone but that savings is too much to ignore. I suppose the Matco flex versions would fall in the middle-high side at $450. Those are made in Taiwan.

XDHFM1315. They make more styles than what they offer in their pre-packaged sets. You aren't saving a dime by getting a set so you could just piece your own together.

Yeah I was thinking about getting the 12x14, 13x15, 16x18 and 17x19. Total on the Canadian site comes to $262.40 +tax and shipping. Not bad really. As for the smaller sizes...meh. My regular wrenches are good enough.

To chime in on GearWrench...I've got a flex head set, and I'm really impressed with the quality for the price. I've used them to break free rusty bellhousing bolts without issue. However, they have a time and a place, and when I just want pure "umph", I usually grab something else when I can.

Some people seem to like genius tools. I have no opinion on them (never used them). Depends on the warranty with most off brands. Would I spend 100 bucks on them? Not a wrench guy so, no. They are long handle though. I'd just buy a couple of slugging wrenches for that much if I really needed them.

They do look good, I'm considering it. But I prefer to buy stuff once for the most part.

I hadn't heard of them before. I don't know if they're not normally available in Canada or what. I have 6 different sets of metric wrenches of different shapes and sizes...often times one design just doesn't cut it. I've used these long ones before and really liked them.

Another reason I want the ones with two sizes is to limit the number of tools I bring with me in a tight spot. I hate running back to the toolbox all the time, and also hate having piles of wrenches on fenderwells or wherever.

I bought that Cornwell set used for $80 off of CL. It work fine, but I am not too impressed with the quality. The shank/beam is lumpy and the broaching is off center. SO quality is much better, but I think SO is shorter.

One of my favorite wrenches is "like" what you are looking for, only I think much better.

Its various brands, EZred on trucks, SK even had them for awhile, double box end flex head ratcheting extended spline wrenches. Extended spline means they have the square teeth to grip any type of bolt head, and they stick out from the wrench like a zero degree offset.

Just used my super long Matco spline ratcheting flex head 15mm with great effect today. Was trying to change alternator belt on a PT Cruiser. Keep in mind, nothing is easy to work on or get to on these cars. They're a serious pita, especially a timing belt or water pump. Well the upper alternator nut is super hard to get to about a foot below the top of the motor near the firewall. You can't really get a ratchet in there due to clearance of the timing cover and unibody frame. My long Matco wrench slid right down there and was able to ratchet that sucker loose. They're my new favorite wrenches.
At $443 for the ten piece set, they're probably the most expensive set you'll come across but they're awesome.

Best thing I've ever used them for is broken flex plate on Chevy 4X4. Pull the rear mount slide trans and transfer case back, slip in and R&R flywheel bolts. Flat rate money in my pocket!
