Yesterday, I purchased from Menard's a Masterforce (made in U.S.A. by Pratt-Read) a #0000 Phillips screwdriver (model# M237-7949).

I was wondering if #0000 Phillips screws exist? I have never seen one. There are only 3 recognizable screwdriver brands that offer a #0000 Phillips screwdriver: Pratt-Read, Craftsman, and General Tools.

Does anyone here own a #0000 Phillips screwdriver and used it? What brand is it? How prevalent are #0000 Phillips screws on electronics?

Thanks,

Dave

I've encountered some #0000 when I was into model railroads. My local hobby shop even carried a selection of 0000 screws and nuts in their hardware section. I don't recall ever having to remove or install them. The hobby shop did offer a set of Chinese micro drivers, though. As far as electronics, I haven't had anything smaller than a #00 Philips, but I haven't dealt with tons of electronic gizmos in my life.

i would imagine older electronics would be more likely to have them. Newer electronics always seem to have some variety of tamper proof fastener.

That's odd that you purchased a tool that you might not even have a use for:headscrat

I doubt anybody on here has ever done something like that.:bounce:

American Lockpicker,

I did some research this morning and found 2 internet sources for #0000 screwdrivers.

First, Excelta Hobby did manufacture and now sells on its website ("Clearance Sale" section) a made in France, optician's #0000 screwdriver (model# 242/1). It is priced at $2.72. I ordered 2 of them. They are being discontinued and only 8 units are left in stock. Here is a link to the clearance page:
http://www.exceltahobby.com/shop.php/clearance-sale/c_24.html?page=1.

I also ordered the made in France, optician's 0.055" flat blade screwdriver (model# 241/5) for $2.68 (quantity: 2) and the made in U.S., 6" long, tapered jaw cutter (model# SE-30L) for $27.65. The shipping fee is high at about $9.50 for UPS Ground so I decided to pad my order :bounce:.

In addition, Test Equipment Depot (ordered previously from them; great company to deal with) offers a 13 piece (possibly made in China), Platinum Tools precision screwdriver set. It is on sale for $11.48 (with free shipping). Unfortunately, I called them and was notified that they have no stock of this item. It will take 3 to 5 days to arrive from Platinum Tools once the order is placed on the "Test Equipment Depot" website. Here is a link to the precision screwdriver set:
http://www.testequipmentdepot.com/platinum-tools/screwdrivers/19103.htm.

When I receive my order from Excelta Hobby at the end of this week, I will post comparison pictures between the Excelta #0000 screwdriver (with a pointed tip) and the Masterforce equivalent (with a blunt tip).

I think SK made a set at one time with one. I wish they had normal size handles. That gives me an idea, I could buy a set from exceltahobby.com and order some replacement handles from Snap On.

Sorry to dig up old threads:

Many laptops (especially Mac's) have a few #0000 screws on the inside. Usually in sub-components (the machine assembled parts) have a couple. And some of the bizarro / rarer parts will have them (Hitachi micro-sata drives IIRC).

EDIT: Didn't read the whole thread, sorry. There are some screws in Macs that need a #0000 screwdriver.

I received today from Excelta Hobby the #0000 Phillips screwdriver.

Here are two pictures of the Excelta screwdriver by itself:

Here is a comparison picture of the tips of the Excelta Hobby (on the left) and the Masterforce (on the right) screwdrivers:

Lastly, here is a wide shot of the two screwdrivers:

About a year ago, I was walking through my local Sears store and saw a six piece set of Craftsman brand mini screwdrivers. The set included three slotted (1/16", 5/64", 3/32") and three phillips (#00, #000, #0000). I looked at the set and thought, "Hmm, here's a nice little set of screwdrivers that I don't need. I think I'll buy them anyway." I paid about $6.99 for the set. The slotted drivers look exactly like like the full size Craftsman drivers with the red and clear stripes on the handle and the blue stripe where the shank enters the handle. The phillips also look like their full size counterparts, with the clear handles and the blue stripe where the shank enters the handle.

They're nice little screwdrivers that appear to be well made (in the USA) and good for dealing with glasses, small electronics, and wrist watches. I've used the #000 phillips once or twice. I haven't used the #0000 yet.

I've also got a set of Craftsman mini screwdrivers that came in a small light blue colored plastic holder. I bought this set many years ago. The set included a few very small sized slotted and phillips screwdrivers that fit into a separate handle. I'm sure one of those is also a #0000 phillips. The whole set was covered and kept together by a clear plastic dome. I use them mostly to fix glasses. Unless you're doing a lot of work on small items like glasses, etc., I don't think you'll get a lot of use out of the #0000 phillips. I think you'll probably get a whole lot more use out of a #2.

Hello everyone here, I know this is an old forum, but try as I might finding information about Phillips #0000 is very challenging. I have searched Google a great deal of times, have contacted about 10 different companies ranging from Grainger to even Digi-key, but have had only little luck.

From what I can tell only General Tools, Moody Tools, Pratt-Read, MasterForce Craftsman and that online shop Excelta Hobby sold that French screwdriver that is now no longer available.

Here is some information about all the Phillips #0000 I've found starting with Craftsman. First here is the link. http://http://www.sears.com/craftsman-0000-x-1-in-screwdriver/p-00941645000P

This is Craftsman #0000 x 1 in. Screwdriver Model# 502-040C Sears Item# 00941645000 Screwdriver Overall Length: 3-7/8 in. Despite the fact this is a Phillips #0000, this screwdriver is much larger than even my Wiha 26102 Phillps 0000X40 mm made by Willi Hahn Corporation made in Germany.

Next I found this General Tools bit driver set (made in China it seems) and here are two links to product. Note that one is different than the other.

The first is Mfr. Model # 751028 and is a set. Here is a link. http://http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/GENERAL-TOOLS-Bit-Driver-Screwdriver-Set-1JGL8?Pid=search

Here is another variation of this set by General Tools and it is also made in China as well apparently. The Mfr. Model # 63528 and here is a link. http://http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/ULTRATECH-Multi-Bit-And-Probe-Set-1XHR2?Pid=search

Based on my history with General Tools and the reviews I've read about these tools, I am staying away from this brand as well.

The third is a set of precision Phillips screwdrivers made by Pratt Read and all of their products were made in USA, including this one. The part number to this product is 82001 and it's a 6 piece, but the part number to the Phillips #0000 is 82107 and here is some more information based on the PDF they (Pratt-Read) has on file.

With the Phillips #0000, its Diameter A OA (I am writing this as shown in the PDF file) it's length is 3.5000 Dim B exp length is 1.500 Dim B3 clearance is 0.125 and the handle length is 2.000 the Bulk part number is 82107 yet the Bag of 3 is 82107-3 and the hang tag variation of this is 82107-HT.

This Phillips No. 0000 x 1-1/2 as a total measurement and here is a link to this product. http://http://www.amazon.com/Pratt-Read-82001B-Precision-Phillips-Screwdriver/dp/B001C00BP6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335033032&sr=8-1

As for MasterForce, Phillips No. 0000 x 1-1/2" Screwdriver the Model Number: M82107-HT and the Menards® SKU: 2377949 and this product is also made in USA as well. I've seen the picture of this on this thread, but I am still trying to figure out how small this screwdriver is and if it's length is much smaller than my Wiha 2601 Phillips #000.

Here is a link to the MasterFroce product via Menards. I've tried and tried to look for other sources of information for this product but no luck at all. Here is the link. http://http://www.menards.com/main/tools-hardware/hand-tools/nut-screwdrivers/phillips-no-0000-x-1-1-2-screwdriver/p-1502774.htm

I tried looking for information about that French made Phillips #0000 by I could not find any information out. Here is the link via Excelta Hobby. http://http://www.exceltahobby.com/shop.php/clearance-sale/c_24.html?page=1

Moody Tools was probably the hardest to derive any information from though. I thought I saw some information about them selling Phillips #0000, but I am beginning to think that is incorrect. Here is a link to their company website though. http://http://www.moodytools.com/MTI_Browse_4.html

My question really is, does anyone else know of anymore companies? As right now, The MasterForce Phillips #0000 looks like that would work the best, but that tool has very scarce information.

Thanks for the help and I am sorry to bring up an old thread, but I've look all over the internet and this thread seems to be the only one that truly has extensive information.

Danglerb thank you for that link. Sorry about the broken links, I'll fix them when I have more time. However, $15 (for me at least) is a great deal of money to spend on a product that may or may not be a Phillips #0000. It's great that they are small, but I literally can't afford a mistake like that, as I am going to guess these are non returnable at all.

I already have a Phillips #000 made by Willi Hahn Corporation, otherwise known as Wiha and was given a Phillips #0 (came with a set) as a present, so I don't need those. Also I don't want another dud like the Craftsman, that was a mistake that took a great deal of time to fix.
