Here's the pics from the beginning of my garage build. Moved in September and am this is my first place and I'm trying to do things right the first time.

Previous owner didn't finish any window or door trim. Trim was added and it looks much better already.

There were only outlets on one side of the garage and by the door. Pulled in a separate circuit for the remaining two sides. Also hid the thermometer cable and installed a dusk to dawn light.

Time for paint! Used two coats of Kilz oil based primer (first coat took 5 hours), followed by one coat of grayish top coat. Left the window and door trim white.

Previous owner was nice enough to leave his workbench when he left. It'll work well for a while before I need to upgrade.

image.jpg

Added some Rubbermaid Fasttrack shelving an hangers to start organizing my mess that was pushed against the walls during painting. Flammables will be stored in a grounded cabinet once I get one.

image.jpg

I purchased two 28" Gladiator cabinets that I'll be mounting above and to the sides of my workbench. Once I save up a little money and find the 72" cabinet and gearwall supplies on sale I'll install and give everyone an update.

Been working on since December. Most things took about 3 nights total, with the paint being the exception. Once my funds recover I'll get some more done.

Re: My 24x30x8 Garage Project

Acquired a VFD controlled drill press, an almost new Craftsman radial arm saw (30 years old, used about 5 times), and a sheet of white pegboard. Will post pics once they are all setup.

Looks nice, a little trim and some paint can make a huge difference.

Re: My 24x30x8 Garage Project

Installed some white pegboard this weekend and lined up my press and saws. Going to pick up the rest of the floor trim tonight to finish that project.

Re: My 24x30x8 Garage Project

Was able to get a 72" cabinet for $180. Just need to paint my air compressor shelf and then I can hang the cabinets and organize the pegboard.

Great looking garage! How do you like the Milwaukee box? A colleague of mine, just purchased this unit. Pretty cool setup with the power strips.

I love it and think it's the by far the best tool chest in the less than $1000 category. Most other boxes I looked at seemed to snap shut, which would shift all the tools to the back of the drawer. The easy closing drawers are awesome. I just need to mount my charger to the side of the box or to the pegboard on the top.

My dad mentioned to me 2 or 3 times that he wished he had the Milwaukee tool chest instead of his Mastercraft from Menards.

Re: My 24x30x8 Garage Project

Installed a support board behind my 72" cabinet to hard mount it to the wall. Took out all the wobbles.

2016_02_21_15_36_11.jpg

Finished the trim around the garage and added another line of silicone on the bottom to prevent water damage on the OSB. Replaced the door to remove the windows and added the deadbolt.

2016_02_21_15_36_26.jpg

Starting to look organized for once.

Installed an outlet extender to clean up the outlet on the pegboard. Much cleaner looking now.

Re: My 24x30x8 Garage Project

Worked on my house for a few weeks and let the garage get unorganized. Got a few tools from my grandpa that were all made in the USA. Found one with the date July 13, 1915 that appears to be a valve stem remover from the Dill Manufacturing Company in Cleveland.

In a few weeks I hope to clean up these tools and remove most of the rust. Best part about the tools from my Grandpa is that they all say made in the USA.

Nice space!

That's a size I'm considering if we wind up with a new place -- how do you like the size? I'm assuming you're at 24 wide, 30 deep.

I would say this is the smallest you'd want to go to allow room for projects. I have a small (8'x12'ish) shed behind the garage to store the snowblower in the summer and lawnmower to save room.

I still find myself parking cars in the driveway temporarily when I'm working on some projects.

Right now there are 6 4' fixtures in my garage and it's okay. I'm upgrading to LED Costco FEIT fixtures as soon as I can get them less than $30 each.

My plan is to try 6 fixtures out and see how it goes. Right now I'd like a little more light on my workbench and at the tail end of my garage when the garage doors are closed. To solve this I think I'll move two fixtures a foot or so towards the garage door and one over my bench.

Definitely go with LED fixtures with whatever you do.

Thanks, that helps. I'm hoping I'll have space to go bigger, but finding land around here that we can afford is nearly impossible.

Re: My 24x30x8 Garage Project

Started organizing my toolbox and fixed up a lawn mower I bought on Facebook for $80. Tuned it up and will give it to my girlfriends friend to save her a few hundred bucks on a new mower.

Pressure washed my garage and house. Much better now. Need to work on some landscaping sometime this year or next.

did you get the Costco lights? My wife got me a 2 pack online from Costco for $50. I love them. Wished she bought me more.

Have not been to Costco for about three weeks. The last time I was there they were still $30 each. Going to pull the trigger when I see less than $55 a pair.

Re: My 24x30x8 Garage Project

Stopped at Costco and the lights were still $29.99 each. Soon I'll find them for cheaper and will upgrade.

Purchased a metal garden hose reel cart and assembled it today. Was sick of flimsy plastic ones that would break after a year or two.

Changed the front rotors and brake pads on my girlfriends car. Easiest brake job I've ever done, took 30 minutes to do the work and an hours swapping for the correct rotors.

Re: My 24x30x8 Garage Project

Got some work done this weekend and a few projects around the house completed.

Painted the door frame white.

I was being stalked while painting.

Bought myself a new toy this weekend after getting sick of hauling around extension cords.

Current state of the garage. I need to finish sanding and then stain/varnish my entertainment center and then I can fully clean up and organize the shop. Any suggestions on tool rust removers?

Re: My 24x30x8 Garage Project

Didn't care for the low GPM of the electric pressure washer I used to clean my house and returned it. Costco has this Subaru powered washer for $269.99 with electric start. Can't wait to put it together and use it to clean the concrete in the garage and my driveway.

Also picked up an MTM foam cannon to cover everything in suds while cleaning.

Assembled a cheap "Big Red" creeper chair from Menards. Seems like a decent little chair for the $25 I spent. If it last's a few years it'll be worth the money.

Pressure washer is assembled and I'm waiting for the battery to charge before I start it up.

Assembled the pressure washer yesterday and tested it out on my car and it's awesome. Took about 5 seconds on the initial startup and then every time after that took about 2 seconds to start.

Didn't think the electric start was going to be this handy. Since it worked so well I shut the engine off while after foaming my car until I was ready to rinse. Took about half the time to rinse my car as compared to the 1.4gpm electric pw I had used.

Pulled everything out of my cabinets and started cleaning and organizing everything. Entire garage was covered in sawdust and took me a while to sweep it out of every nook and cranny.

I was searching around Home Depot and found a keyless entry deadbolt on sale for $33. Just need to purchase a matching doorknob for below.

Turned 50,000 miles on my TDI and gave it a paint correction, polish, and detail to celebrate.

Just have to clean the inside tonight and then it's ready for summer.
