Methinks there's monkey bidness (pardon the pun) on ebay. I'm not saying the SK ratchet seller is doing it.

But on other items, for example, I've noticed 30-40 buyers paying $800 or so for something like an Amazon Kindle Fire tablet ($50 on Amazon) off one buyer. Warshin' $$$?

Most sellers do it when they are out of stock and don't want to type up a new listing when more stock comes in.

I was looking to purchase an item from the same seller with a really high price. I asked them about it and this was their response:

"New message from: myauto (75,277PurpleShooting Star)
Good morning, thank you for bringing this to our attention. With new listings, we upload them at a higher price so that our pricing system can drop them to the correct price on the next update pattern and we are not selling the items at a price that is a loss to our company.

If you are interested in the item please add it to your watch list but we are well aware of the pricing on these items."

After a few days the price did drop.

$1000.00 for a ratchet? That's chump change!
They've got a nice little Proto 1/4" drive socket set listed for only $5001.00 !!

Same seller. Check their feedback rating and some of the feedback comments, like this one:
"Don't waste your time or money. These people are imbeciles!"

How many Ebay sellers get 7 negative feedback ratings in one month?

Actually, people are a joke anymore. There just happens to be a large congregation of them on ebay. Sure seems to me that Ebay.... and the internet for that matter have driven the cost of things to a new level of stupid. I swear.

Yeah. I have been watching items at auction sites other than eBay, and I don't get the math. People pay stupid prices for things which boggles the mind. Hey, if they want to pay it, fine. But I think it's all a result of the Federal Reserve's cheap money policy which resulted in an economic system awash in dollars chasing anything to get a return. EVERYTHING is now an "asset class." Until that ends, it's party on.

I hear you. I'm in the home buying and selling business and the prices of homes is just nuts. I don't understand how the average person affords a home based on the greed and peoples incomes. Don't get it.

Greed? Buyers are buying at current price, if they weren't the prices would be lower. That's not "greed", it's a Free Market. Maybe I misunderstood your comment.

If that ratchet sells for $1,000 I say more power to 'em...
