Mining equipment??????Something really, really big! I don't even have a use for 3/4 drive sockets, I couldn't imagine using those! That must be what they use on those gas powered impact drivers.

The location might give a clue. Long Beach. Battleship maintenance is probably pretty close.

Up here in Canada these large drive sizes are used routinely in the mining and petroleum industry as well as any large scale machinery.

Gray Tools in Canada manufactures sockets up to 2 1/2" drive and up to 8" hex size. An 8" socket is 11.5" in diameter and 9.25" long.

Okay, how bout this. I've got a 6 5/8" Proto Industrial Impact socket sitting out on my workbench. Bought it off of ebay hoping to resell it but no takers. It's 1/1/2 drive and weighs 27 pounds.

How the heck could you collect a whole set of em though. Would need a forklift to carry round your toolbox.

It would make a real cool door stop for the shop if you needed one! (i don't) :bounce:

That is unbelievable.

If you had a need for the 1.5" set, I'm sure $500 is an incredible deal. What do you think retail is for that set? Maybe more than $3000?

Pretty common in railroad train shops.
Some of the breaker bars have 4 or 6 foot handles.
