1/13/13 Flea Market Haul

Got this at a flea market today:
SK box (Empty)-$3
Mac 14mm 1/4" drive socket-$1
Mac 10mm 1/4" drive socket-$1
Snap On 1 1/4" 1/2" drive socket-$1
Cornwell 11pc 1/2" drive impact socket set-$10 (Marked $25)
Mac Diecast model truck-$5

How did I do?? Never bought Cornwell before. Needed impact sockets so I thought Cornwells might be good since I have heard of them before.

You did good. Cornwell tools are as good as any tool truck tools. My flea market day was 11 SK sockets , some deep, for $10.

You got all of that for $21? All of the flea markets I go to would want at least $20 for the box and $50 for the socket set alone. And they probably wouldn't budge.

Why don't you start selling some of your hauls? To me (and me only) at a 50% mark-up?

I'd like to think of myself as a dedicated weekend flea market trawler -- I go and browse at least one market every weekend, but I can't come away with the stuff you do at such a consistency. I wonder what impact regional differences have on our respective browsing experiences. It's odd; I'm in the relatively poorer South paying more on average for discarded goods than you are in the relatively richer Northeast. Doesn't add up.

You're assembling a killer set for pennies. Keep at it.

Actually it does. This is one area where the "trickle-down" theory of economics actually works. I've always found a better selection and lower prices in areas of higher population and income. Well-to-do people will set out better stuff on the curb for free than poor areas will have for sale at garage sales and flea markets.

Line it up that way, and it makes very good sense. Interesting.

You also get into regional differences in supply and demand. There is a lot more blue caller attitude if not work per capita in the south compared to the northeast and high population density areas on the west coast; then you have the huge resources that was the rust belt for machine tooling, and the demand is WAY down there, but for the available supplies, way up where I live...

It's weird up here. On Craigslist, everything is close to retail price. At garage sales/flea markets, it is relatively cheap. Unless the guyknows what he has.

One exception was a guy that had a Snap On sign and I asked do you have any Snap On for sale?

He said sure and handed me a hard handle ratchet, and two Mac dual flex end socket wrenches. He said the wrenches are Snap On but the ratchet is.

I said OK... how much?? He said

Hmmm...how about $1 each?

I darn near broke my are getting the $3 dollars out lol.

He also had a pair of Knipex hose clamp pliers, a Snap On hex key socket, Blue Point adjustable, a full set of Metric Craftsman's, Snap On distributor cap driver, and an SK ratchet that he sold to me for $5!!!!!

very nice on the snap on deal. I have a set of cornwell deep metric impacts that I like, I have never had a problem with them but they don't see heavy use.
