So, this past week, my 2-1/2 year old grandson spent a week with me and we spent a lot of quality time climbing on tractors and puttering in the workshop.

It got me to thinking about a future Christmas or birthday gift for him. We all see our grand-daughters play with doll houses, but what about a "doll house" for boys built as a workshop?? I have quite a few 1/16" scale model tractors and trucks and thought how cool it would be to have a 1/16" scale garage/workshop to store them in and play!

Perhaps sliding doors on the front, a roof that folds back, etc. Then populate it with accessories such as a 1/16" scale workbench, shop stool, and miscellaneous tools like a toolbox, air compressor, workbench, drill press, etc. I recall that a few years ago Ertl produced a 1/16" scale Ford 8N that came with a set of similar shop tools.

At only 2-1/2 he's a little young for it just yet, but it would probably take me a year or so to build such a shop for him so I need to start planning now.

Has anyone already done this or can offer ideas as to plans or sources for 1/16" scale model shop tools?

I think this is a wonderful idea, diversity is the spice of life...and if you do it right, will be a great boyhood memory for him!

Great idea. I had lots of 1:24 scale cars when I was a ki, but a 1:16 scale shop would be awesome, imagine how many 1:24 scale cars I could fit in it... I need a scale shop for real, but would prefer 2:1!

I have several of these sets for my die-cast car collection. Right now most are boxed up until we move into our new house so I can set them up in the new garage, with the exception of the 4 post lift. I have it with two race cars on the bottom shelf of my glass display with the rest of my die-cast cars in my home office...
