1/2" 12-point impact?

Just went through SK catalog and HJEpstein, looks like SK does not make any 1/2" 12-point impact sockets. There were none in my local Harbor Freight either. Any suggestions for a warrantable set? I am fixing to do my son's Accord clutch and the Honda people recommend a 12-point impact for the flywheel bolts, that torque to 79 ft-lbs. The bolt heads are very shallow, so I'm looking for a high quality socket that will grip that head well. I would prefer not deep wall, just for saving space, but if that's all I can get I may go with it. So far the best solution seems to be Grey Pneumatic 1726M, could use the larger ones for the axle nuts.

Grey pneumatic makes a good 1/2" set that i have hammered on with my ti2235 and my big dewalt cordless impact with no signs of wear or failures. I would have no problem buying them again. And like you stated, they have a lifetime warranty. My local sturdevants stocks them and will swap one out of his sets for me if he doesnt have one single replacement on hand.

Edit. I missed you didnt want deep sockets. Im not sure if they make a standard 12pt but I think they do. The camfer or bevel ( not sure the correct terminology) is very small .025 in on my caliper so they should be good on a short headed bolt. Included a pic for reference

A chrome socket will work fine for you, doesn't sound like you will use it every day.

GP "Grey Pnuematic" sockets wear extremely well. I have a 3/8 Drive 13mm swivel that has been beat on every day now for 5 yrs still fits better then snap-on sockets and it wears better then them too. I have the heavy truck wheel sets both of them and they barely even show wear even though i use them to take wheels off big rigs with an IR 3/4" drive titanium all the time.

Best money can buy for sockets if you ask me. Tekton is great but, they are not as good as GP and you do pay for the difference but, GP to me is the best of the best when it comes to impact sockets.

Not an expert, but people have been using chrome sockets with impacts forever. I'm sure the lord will forgive you, unless your just looking for an excuse to buy more sockets.

Whatever socket you get, you'll have to remove the chamfer on the end to increase the engagement with the bolt head.

I have Tekton metric 3/8 12 point impact.I never rounded a thing with them.
It was one of those sketchy Amazon orders. Buy 6 point-get 12 pt. ???
I didn't bother to complain or return them. I never rounded a bolt with a box end 12 point wrench either. That's a garage journal fear, not reality based.
I've tore some **** up with Vise Grips and open ends-adjustable wrenches and pipe wrenches though !

I bought a 17mm 12pt cornwell off the truck just for this purpose. However, there is no reason you need an impact. Use a breaker bar on the crank puley bolt and hold the engine to break loose the bolts if you need to.

I had my 10 year old help hold the crank while I torqued them down on the install (my 3/8 drive Milwaukee fuel zipped them right off on the removal part).

I bought few sunex 12 point 1/2" sets for a shop over here last year. Seem to be pretty good sockets.

Snap on makes them. Don't know if you want to spend that much. Maybe just buy the one socket you need?

I've got the tekton set mentioned a few posts up. Got them
For the odd fastener like what you're doing. They've held up fine for 6-8 months in a professional shop. Not too worried about warranty as the set was like 12 bucks on amazon

Grinding down the chamfer was mentioned on several of the Honda How-To's. Oddly I don't seem to have a random 17mm single, but I can just pass by the pawn shop and pick up a decent one. I hate to pass up the chance to get a new set--these excuses don't come up every day. So I may just buy the Tekton set, and grind a one-off socket, and be prepared for anything.

Thanks for the input.
