looking for compact 1/2 in drive ratchet with a quick release. ideally regular 3/8 size/form factor with 6-7 inch handle. lower torque application so it does not need to be super strong. currently i am just using a 1/2 adapter on a 3/8 ratchet

Astro Tools 91210 Nano Ratchet - 1/2" Drive Head In 3/8" Ratchet Body https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JBNLW1W/?tag=atomicindus08-20
That one's longer than requested, though. Nice compact head. I have the next size down version, a 3/8 drive in a 1/4 body, and it's very, very nice.

I have this stubby flex head set from HF that includes 1/2" drive, and they work, and they're useful, but... they're the old-school low tooth count and just plain not-great quality. Not nearly up to the standards of pretty much all their other ratchets.

Technically he said 7” handle.

Does that include the neck/shoulder or just the grip/handle? ;)

I see you’ve made your decision but for anyone else interested, one economical option I’ve seen is buying proto torque wrench ratchet head repair kit

J6014RK.

It is a 1/2” drive gear that fits in their 3/8 drive classic pear head ratchets.

What I use for this is a Hazet 916k. It was a good deal on Amazon a few months ago, not as good now. It’s more compact than the Proto but not as smooth.
