I am looking for some recommendations on a good 1/2 inch cordless hammer drill. I have looked at the Milwaukee, Makita, Bosch, Dewalt, Hitach, Rigid, and Porter Cable but they all look pretty much the same therefor making it hard for me to make a decision. :headscrat

Monte is right. If you need a cordless hammer drill buy a rotary hammer. Cordless hammer drills **** even more than the corded ones. If you don't need hammer buy a regular drill. The hammer mechanism is just added weight and bulk.

I have a standard hammerdrill, and an sds(dewalt18 volt). If you must have cordless for regular use,sds is the only tool to use. I use my sds for as small as 5/32 holes,it is that much faster. Oh and I use them daily for work.

I already have a corded rotary hammer drill but I need something cordless and don't want to spend too much money on a cordless rotary hammer. The cordless is going to be used for drilling small holes in concrete and block for tapcon screws. The corded rotary for large holes and solid concrete.

I put in 500 tapcons in a slap floor last year (put a OSB subfloor overr the concrete in a basement)...started with a corded hammer drill.....it took forever and the hole quality so poor the tapcon wouldnt' bit. I rented a Rotary Hammer drill with small bits...worked awesome....way faster and higher quality....still went through bits like mad though. When we were stating the project, I looked into a cordless hammer drill, but all my research said the it will drain the battery to fast. But if I were to get a cordless, it would be Makita, Dewalt, or Milwaukee.

I had Porter Cable, DeWalt, Rigid and now Millwaukee. I like the Millwaukee 18v HD with Lion batteries the best. It came with 2 batts. and you can get the larger batts. now. I like being abe to reverse the batt. for more clearance if needed. The balance and weight is nice.

Bosch Swiss or German. :)

Unfortunately all of Bosch's cordless drills are made in China or Malaysia. I have a rotary hammer drill and a 90 degree drill from Bosch that are made in Switzerland. Sadly all of their drills are probably going to be eventually made in China or Malaysia.

I believe the 18v brute series Bosch is still made in Switzerland, at least they were when I got mine over the summer. And I just checked my 11255 bulldog, it's assembled in Mexico.

I do but they are all Ni Cad and I wanted the new drill to be Lithium Ion.

The dewalt use both. What brand do you have? I do not like dewalt (but 7 yrs ago I had to buy my own tools for work and dewalt had the biggest line.) I started out with they 6#(h.drill, impact, cir saw recip saw and light kit bl fri in#04) Since then I've added rt angle drill, sds, laser, vacuum, grinder, jig saw, radio and1/2 impact. All have been bought individualy on fleebay. I had been going thru 3 nicad batts (1 lion batt now)and 1# 1/4 in impacts (bad switches)per yr,recipe saw every other yr. I want to to switch to Milwaukee ,but wayto much$ to replace 12 tools and 9 batteries.
